OMG! I've gained 10 pounds already! How much have you gained so far?

Im a little overweight to start off with and had done an amazing lifestyle change a few years ago that helped me keep weight off (including very little to no dairy and glutten, green smoothies and eating lots of fruits and veggies).

Now i feel that most of the weight gain and bloating is due to a wheat belly since that is the most comforting and satiating thing to eat these days. Whole wheat of course, but still wheat.

I had envisioned a gradual weight gain mostly in the 2nd and 3rd trimester with just a belly bulge, however that dream is slowly starting to dissappear! Waaaaaaaaa.

  • Doctor told me that some people gain right away and then even out in the next two trimesters. I have lost weight so far. But I drink so much water throughout the day that I gain about four pounds each day from when I weigh myself in the morning til when I weigh at night. Obviously that isn't all water, but the next morning I'm back to the original weight every day... If that makes sense. Last pregnancy I gained five in the first trimester, but only 22 total.

  • I haven't gained any weight and I haven't lost any weight. I'm still just hovering at the same poundage. I'm totally okay with this, because I gained a total of 61 lbs when I was pregnant with Skippy...

  • Oh man. As long as i dont get to 200 lbs i will be happy. That leaves me with about 30 lbs growing room. Good to hear from the other experienced moms!
  • I've lost almost 13lbs...and yet, my pants won't button. I'm excited for the day I wake up and can eat anything without being nauseous again! I'm sure i'll gain enough weight at that point.

  • Ive gained 5lbs so far, and im almost 14 weeks.  I feel like ive gained to much more though, all my pants are getting way to tight.  Thinking I need to get out to the store today to buy some work pants. 

  • 4 pounds as of this morning, and I'm a little over ten weeks.  I'm blaming the chinese food we had last night for dinner -- it was only 2.5/3 pounds yesterday morning!

  • I gained 5lbs and I'm not happy about it : ( I just lost weight in may and have looked awesome this summer. Good bye to that body thank god it's worth it.
  • You'll probably even out later on... just be careful what you eat and calorie count if it helps. At this point we shouldn't have anything extra than normal. 

    I haven't gained anything yet because my morning sickness is still so bad :( Last pregnancy I lost 3 lbs in the 1st tri, so I guess this is an improvement...

  • I'm right behind you at 7 lbs. I was doing grain-free as well but junk food and noodles are just too easy when you're exhausted.

  • I've gained about four pounds, I'll be thirteen weeks on Tuesday. I try not to worry about the overall gain , more that I'm gaining gradually. I'm overweight ( actually obese by definition) but I do not have weight related issues. My midwives haven't said anything about my weight, I'll be interested to see where I am at my 16 week appt.

  • Every woman is different so try not to compare to what others have or haven't gained. You might be one that gains most of your weight off the bat.

    Last pregnancy I only "planned" on gaining 25 lbs. I lost 15 lbs in the first trimester and looked tiny and could fit into size 2 jeans. I didn't gain it all back until 20 weeks. Then from 20-41 weeks I gained 40 lbs it didn't look good on my small frame, even my neck and shoulders got "fat." PP I wore a size 10 for the first 6 months.

    Just wanted to share my experience. Once you start feeling better, try to go back to your healthy lifestyle. I didn't, I was so happy to be able to eat whatever I wanted that I overindulged.

    This holds true for PP weight loss. I was one of the women that held onto my weight while BFing. Others were dropping ALL of their pregnancy weight and then some, which made me so discouraged.

  • I've gained about 4lbs. Going from a paleo/primal diet to mostly grain diet has really had an affect on me. I fluctuate a lot though. Some days I'm back down to my regular weight and some I'm up 4lbs.
  • I have gained nearly 15 pounds, but I also stopped taking phentermine while we were TTC so it's been quite an adjustment to go from eating hardly anything to eating several meals a day so quickly.
  • 10 lbs here! It's the starburst and skittles.. I'm feeling so much better and getting back on my treadmill this week

  • I have gained nothing.  Which by this point in my pregnancy with DS, I had gained like 7 pounds.  I am also a little "fluffy" to begin with, so I am trying my hardest to be good and watch the weight gain.  I gained 50 lbs with DS.

  • 10 pounds here too! For me it's the awful nausea and constant need to always be eating. And also going from working out 5x a week, to not at all. I just keep reminding myself that I'll lose it all breastfeeding. With both my other kids, nursing brought be below pre-pregnancy weight in a couple of months. It still sucks in the meantime though!

  • My weight has been ALL over the place. I gained 7 lbs right away and then have slowly lost 17! and then now I've gained one back.  Total loss of 9 lbs since pre pregnancy weight. I asked my dr if i should be concerned and she said that most doctors have done away with what you are "supposed" to gain a lot of women gain less and a lot of women gain more its more what you do with your post baby body that will matter. again thats just my dr's words.

  • I stayed the same, though my belly and boobs are more prominent. Today I checked my weight again and it seems I've gained 3 lbs. I've been sick this week and especially inactive, which likely made the difference. But, on a good note, today I feel good enough to go for a hike :)
  • I'm at 10 as of this morning... I went from running everyday to napping on the couch everyday! I pray the beautiful 2nd tri is nice to me :D

  • Thats the one thing im ashamed i havent done yet is excersise, purely out of being too busy (2 jobs), tired, and a little affraid to have anything go wrong (a friend recently had a MC).

    That being said, i was doing quite a bit of yoga and strength training before i was preggos and really want (need) to get back into it. Just have to start building the habit again...
  • With my first baby I gain 35 pounds in the first 2 months in total 50 pounds ,
    In these pregnancy 9 pounds in 11 weeks .
  • So far I've lost 10 pounds.
  • I lost arround 3 pounds.

  • I'm not too far behind you with gaining 6 lbs so far. The problem in the first trimester for me was I was so sick and felt the only way I would feel even slightly better was if I had something to eat. So needless to say I was eating all day long :)

  • I'm down 6 lbs but do not look like it!!
  • I've gained 7.6 lbs at 13 1/2 weeks.
  • I am afraid to get on the scale, pretty sure I am carrying around an extra ten pounds of poop. Stupid constipation/bloat.
  • Up 0.5 lbs. as of my 12 week appointment.

  • Lost five lbs so far at 13 weeks, though not due to morning sickness...thinking it is the sudden absence of dinners out with lots of wine!

  • Probably about 5 lbs, I am not sure of my starting weight. I had gained maybe 10 lbs when I stopped working out due to an injury. I didn't care because I thought I would work it off when I got better, then I got preggo and ms and exhaustion kicked my ass.

  • I have no idea how much I've gained. I have a dr appt on Thursday so Ill let you know then.

  • As others have said - it totally just depends and will likely even out over the entire 40 weeks if you gain more upfront.

    My last appointment was at 11 weeks and I had lost 3 lbs. I'm 13w4d now and I'd bet I've lost one more or maybe maintained - I really just don't feel like eating must still. With DD, i think I gained 5 lbs in 1st Tri and really didnt gain a ton more until week 26 or so...then I packed on the pounds quickly. I gained 39 lbs total.

    I really try not to worry about total gain and I only weigh myself at appointments - I also suffered from a bad eating disorder in high school and college and therefore don't keep a scale in the house either.

  • I'm 11w 3d and so far I have gained 3lbs but I look like I gained about 8lbs. I just started working out again since my m/s has subsided. I am afraid of gaining too much weight because my Mom gained 80lbs with me and my twin sister and she never lost the weight....I try not to let this bother me but I can't help but panic that I will never lose the weight I gain from this pregnancy like my Mom.

    Once you get back into working out I'm sure your weight will level out. I wouldn't worry about it.
