Parenting after a Loss

JulyMomma

Let's talk Wraps/Carriers:

OK I know you know all about them and I need advice.. I've never used a wrap but with DD on her way I am going to need to do multitasking. : ) I know baby bjorn isn't good. What about Ergo? I am planning on doing a few but I was thinking of even getting one for our upcoming trip to California. Especially since there is a huge chance that Jackson and I will be flying alone.

Re: JulyMomma

  • Jackson liked being in a carrier. I am willing to do both. I will look into the Ergo and try it and see if he is ok in it. I need something while traveling.

  • I have the Ergo and love it. My only complaint with it is that the Infant insert (for babies under 12lbs) is very thick and HOT. Definitely too hot to wear outside in Louisiana heat but even indoors, when I'd pull her out, she was sweaty. She never seemed to mind but it worried me to have her in that oven so after the second time we quit. She's just now big enough that she doesn't need the insert (but only 10lbs) and we wear it around the house all the time. She loves it and I love that I have my hands free.

But for a February baby I think the insert would be perfect and cozy! And just in general I highly recommend the Ergo!

  • Hey lady! The ergo is an excellent option.. DH uses the ergo to wear DS1 on either his front or back and he finds it comfy. I, personally am not a soft structured carrier fan.. They just don't feel comfy for me, so I prefer a wrap. There are a range of other carriers, too.. A mei tei is also a good ken as it's still a structured carrier but part of a tied carrier, too.. It's a little more adjustable than an ergo. If your interested in wrapping, ask around and see if anyone you know has a moby or boba wrap.. They are stretchy wraps.. Good for newborns, but once baby is 12-15lbs, they tend to be least supportive (after a little wile having the baby wrapped, the fabric stretches and it feels loose).. I'd say try and borrow a stretchy first before investing In a woven just to see if wrapping is right for you and baby.. Some babies hates being wrapped, others love it.. And, some Mommas (like me!!) love wrapping, but others hate it.. It's a learned skill! I will send you an invite on FB to the international baby wearing swap.. You can get an ergo on there for $60-$70 used.. Often times people sell them with infant inserts! With any kind of wrapping, "hot babies" will get sweaty! My DS1 is a heat box.. It doesn't matter what temp it is outside or what he's dressed in, whenever we wrap both him and I end up soaked and sweaty!! Where as ds2 isn't, so I can wrap him for hours and were both perfectly cool! I can't speak really for the ergo performance, as I don't have that ken, but the fabric is lighter and "airy" er and supposed to keep babies cooler in warm weather.. Let me know if you have any other questions!! Sorry for typos, mobile as usual, and the iPad stinks with autocorrecting everything incorrectly!!

  • I have the Infantino Ergonomic carrier and love it. It's a lot like the Ergo, but a lot less expensive. It's made of backpack material with a very plush soft inside. It's been too hot to use it a lot outside though. I started with a baby K'tan, but DS hated it and honestly I didn't want to spend a lot on another carrier until I knew he'd like it. I may revisit the K'tan when he can use it upright.

Anyways, I am thinking about getting this for it this winter and grocery shopping:
