I can't wait for it to get cold. Can't wait. Good riddance summer. It was in the mid 70's yesterday and everyone acted like I was this terrible mom for not putting a sweatshirt on Howell. I had more than one person tell me he was cold. "Ma'am, that baby has got to be cold!" No, he doesn't but thanks.
Oh that's probably my real UO. I don't think kids need to be bundled within an inch of their lives. If they're cold, they will make it known. People get sick from germs, not temperature.
@Baker_Bride I could not agree more! DD1 fought me yesterday to wear sweatpants. So she wore her shorts and tshirt uniform for school. It was 50 when we left in the morning. Only my kid would fight me with what to wear even when it's a uniform. Also, some kids run warm. I know mine do. People need to mind their own business.
I think weekends are overrated. Every week, I have lofty expectations of what we can do on the weekend (DH can work on the house, I can get a break, we can spend lots of quality time together, etc). And it rarely works out like that, but the next week, I look forward to the weekend with the same expectations.
I am sure I would feel differently if I worked or if I could just modify my expectations, but for right now, that's my gripe with weekends.
@SJandVA, I know that's probably true about Howell. Any time he is dressed in what many would deem weather appropriate, he gets little beads of sweat on his nose and he is a total crab. He's Eastern European, Scandinavian and Celtic. Those parts of the world aren't exactly known for temperate climates. I run hot and so does H. I could live in Alaska.

I agree and don't. We try to make the best but we never get all we want done. We WILL got pick apples this weekend if there are any left on the trees. We WILL or else.
@BPaws, I look at the red carpet part and then do something else. I used to have an Oscars party with a contest about who could guess the most wins. The winner won an empty Mrs. Butterworth bottle covered in foil to look like Oscar. it was just because I wanted to make food.
Adults forget that kids are pretty much constantly running around. They just don't get as cold.
A grandma of one of my preschoolers didn't think the kids should've been outside playing when it was 50 degrees and sunny. So she would stay in a classroom with her grandson until we came inside. Sometimes that meant she was waiting for 30-45 minutes.
I don't understand why Jay Z is so successful, or anyone who raps lyrics like "uh. uh." and gets paid. If you've run out of things to say, put down the mic and walk away. Hey that rhymed, someone get me a record deal!

For real? I'm a horrible mom then because unless I'm worried about frostbite or heat stroke, we are out.
I agree with the stuff about not bundling up kids so much when the weather is cooler. Last summer, my mom wanted me to put all kinds of sweaters and jackets on DS so he would stay warm. Well he runs hot so he was an uncomfortable crab whenever he was at her house cuz she had him bundled all the time. I don't plan on dressing him so warmly this year. I don't even like wearing king sleeved shirts half the time because they feel too hot and restricting.
My UO: Christmas is a bunch of bunk. I'm already not looking forward to it this year and it's only September.

I swear I'm not a Scrooge.
I am not looking forward to Christmas because I am dreading keeping L out of the Christmas tree. He already doesn't listen when we tell him no, and when we redirect he just goes back and does the same damn thing. The Christmas tree is going to be a pain in the ass this year!

i agree!
DH wants to make such a big deal out of it (he wanted to make a big deal out of it LAST year) and go crazy with the presents, but i think DS is still too young to really understand what is going on. i would rather spend money on going somewhere and doing something together.
also, i know he's going to want to get a tree, but i hate putting it up, dragging all the crap out of the attic and all the needles shedding everywhere, and then taking it down and having to wrap everything up again. it's just one more household chore i don't want to do. plus we'll constantly have to be dragging DS off of it.
I guess this is an UO today: I get excited for all holidays! I love Christmas, maybe because holidays are the main time I get to see my family since they live so far away. I'm soooo excited because Micah's halloween costume was delivered today and I can't wait to try it on him tonight. I was just looking for a place to monogram our Christmas stocking last week! The weeks from Thanksgiving through New Year's is one of my favorite times of the year.
I don't know if we will get a tree this year because we will be traveling. Thy makes me sad.
I do make a big deal out of Christmas but it's not about presents to me. It's the baking and the foods and traditions that I love. I get excited thinking of what to get Howell but we by no means go overboard.
I adore Christmas and I cannot wait to get our tree! I'm even a little sad that Thanksgiving is late this year, because that means less tree time.
ETA: I'm sorry you ladies are not looking forward to it! It's hard to dread something that everyone else is excited about.
I'm excited for Christmas, too! However, I had not thought about the challenge of keeping DS away from the tree this year. DD has never really messed with it, but DS gets into more things than she did. Hmmm...

I love Christmas too! This year will be a little stressful so I'm already thinking about it. We are having huge 60th birthday party for my dad and that will be on Dec. 21. I'm excited about all of it. But I'm going to have to be on top of things this year. Haha!
@BakerBride totally agree about the bundled up thing. DD is hot 90% of the time, no matter what the temp.
My UO is that I do not get the obsession with decorating nurseries. My SIL is going to spend hours and tons of money doing theirs. The baby does not care and I find that most babies are rarely in their room except to sleep. Now that DD is 1, I am considering doing her room and structuring it around things she likes.

I LOVE Christmas, too!!!! It's my favorite part of the entire year. It's definitely a bummer about less tree time but I'm still looking forward to picking out a tree, decorating it and the whole house for it. Last year DH was being a Scrooge and didn't want to put lights up. If I wasn't such a chicken about heights I would have gone on the roof myself. It is SO happening this year.
OMG I am such a little kid.....89 days until Christmas!!!!!!!! \:D/
I am super excited for all the holidays this year. Last year we couldn't bring ds to any family gatherings, so in some ways it feels like these will be our first holidays.
@Maizey06 I put some effort into her nursery, because I like decorating. I spent a lot of time rocking her in there, so it's nice to have a pleasant space. The room just makes me happy. To me, it's like her birthday party. She doesn't care, but I have fun doing it. So why not?
@Jodegaard I think fat should be called delicious. Like, my yogurt has 28 grams of delicious.
We will be keeping the Christmas tree in Js play area so he can't get to it.
I have a ton of friends who are hardcore I to fitness, eating only healthy food, etc. They literally have no life other than working out, prepping food, and hanging out with other people that do the same. I just can't see how that is fun. I know it's good to be a healthy person, but I wouldn't let it take over my life.
For example: one guy I work with complains he doesn't have love in his life, but won't postpone a workout to go on a date. Ever. What?!

I had planned to have two trees this year. One in the living room and one in the den. Silly me!
I read Goodnight Moon to Lili every night. I love the calming, repetitive cadence. I also adore the end. The words just sort of hang in the air after I read them aloud. I can't explain it, but that book is really something. I can't believe any sane person would think it is "creepy" or dislike it. That's just so outside of my realm of possibility.
I see it as a story about a little bunny who is making excuses to stay awake as long as possible. The next book would be little bunny asking for water, for a hug, for another hug, for potty, for water, need to give hugs to all the toys and the air, is it morning yet?

Scrooge of the year, over here.

I just dislike how many, maybe most, people think that eating fat makes you fat*.
*I use this term to demonstrate the connection in people's minds. I realize it's an insensitive term used in a sensitive subject.
