Anyone ever had fFN (Fetal Fibronectin) test?

Curious if anyone has in previous pregnancies any experience with the fFN test and how accurate it was for you. I've been having increased amounts of contractions, losing pieces of mucus plug for a couple of weeks (I know it regenerates), at my last appointment MW looked at my cervix and said she can tell it's already soft, thinning and starting to dilate- she didn't want to actually feel because I was contracting at the same time and she didn't want to exacerbate the issue. She preferred to do the test last week, but SO and I had sex the night before (which can cause a false +) so she said we'll do it at the next appt and just get rapid results to see if I will possibly go into labor in the following week or two. In the meantime until I can go in for the test take it easy and if anything happens just go to the hospital to get checked out.

I know that if it comes up negative we should be good and are at relatively low risk for delivering within the week or two but how accurate was it if you got a positive result?

Thanks, me too! I've dealt with PTL with both previous pregnancies but was able to make it until 36 weeks with both which put me in the safe zone and both were born with no issues. I'm attempting to deliver in a birth center this time but I have to make it to Halloween or I will have to deliver in the hospital. Fingers crossed this guy hangs on for ATLEAST 5 more weeks!

eta: this makes me sound selfish like I only care about a birth center delivery, lol. Not the case at all... I desperately want a mostly cooked baby! No medium rare here please!

  • I've had two FFN tests. Last pregnancy same issues as you have at 30 weeks and my FFN was positive, I delivered him at 32 weeks. This pregnancy I had one done at 25 weeks and it was negative. Good luck to you, I am also praying on making it atleast 7/8 more weeks! Fingers crossed!
  • I've had three done this month alone for the same reasons as you. Mine were all negative and baby is still cooking...so far. I'm on bed rest though and my dr won't let me go back to work. Hope our babies stay put long enough!

  • I had this done with my last pregnancy at 33 weeks, and it was positive.  I had been having contractions/dilated/effaced since 32 weeks, but due to all the cervical checks they had to wait to do the test (because those can cause false +).

When it came back + they admitted me to L&D, gave me the steroid shots, and started me on Procardia.  I was there for 3 days, and everything seemed to be stable, so they sent me home on bed rest and Procardia.

LO hung on until 37 weeks, but nobody thought he would hang on that long.  We got lucky.  Good luck to you! Hope everything turns out ok for you and LO!

Good to hear, I'll be right at 32 weeks when we do the test next Friday. If I can make it to 35 weeks I'll be happy, if I can make it further... I'll be absolutely ecstatic.

  • I had the test done at 25 weeks and it was negative.  I am 29 weeks now.  I am having issues with a shortening cervix and funneling.  I don't seem to be having contractions (had a few show up during monitoring but not consistent and I was not feeling them) but am on Procardia and bed rest now.  I don't think they will repeat the test for me, personally.  My doctor did tell me, though, that if it did come out positive, it didn't mean I would have the baby in the next week or two but that it would be more likely.  Sorry, I know that didn't help to answer your question.   :-<
