Blanket in the crib

I know at this point my compulsion to not have a blanket in the crib is fairly off base. DD sleeps with a blanket at daycare just fine. It was particularly cold in our house 2 nights ago, so I gave dd a smallish plush fleece blanket to sleep under. She loves it!

She was super cute tonight when it was time for bed. We usually cuddle until she falls asleep, but she pointed at her crib before she fell asleep, indicating she wanted to get in bed. I laid her down and pulled the blanket up to the top of her shoulders. She cuddled into the blanket and pulled it up to rub on her cheek. She then flashed a HUGE smile. I melted. I guess she is keeping the blanket. Is dd the last one to get a blanket? Am I the only one who still has a problem leaving blankets in the crib? She has had select stuffed animals in the crib for mos, but I'm struggling with the blanket.

If you don't feel 100% about it have you thought about tucking it in so that it only comes up so far.. that way she can't get her head under it unless she is a super wriggler and does 360's like my lil guy. My lil guy co sleeps because he is spoilt and his crib doesnt give him enough wiggle room ..aparently lol

so he is used to sheets and a comforter and early on we taught him to throw the sheets off his face by playing peekabo with him. One of the other things we did was sleep further down the bed so even if we pulled the covers up for us, he was still above our shoulder height.

When he is in his crib we usually just have a light receiving clothe over him..occasionally a blanket but those are usually crocheted style blankets with lots of holes. For the most part he just sleeps in his PJ's with no covers unless I'm still awake... its too hot here for much more till the weather cools off.

Maybe a snuggily made of the same material would be a good compromise till you feel happier about her having a full size blanket? she gets something soft to cuddle and you still have piece of mind.

This is us, too. I actually wish I could put a real blanket in there as I would feel better about her being warm, but she still does laps around her crib at night and would be out from under it in a flash.

DD has had a blanket for quite a while now. She loves it and sleeps better with it, especially since her room is a full four degrees colder than our room (no idea why...). Usually she ends up on top of the blanket instead of under it, though!

DD has had a blanket since 7 months or so. Too cold in Maine not to. She doesn't always stay under it but she is learning how to pull it back over her. Not good at that yet, but trying.

She rarely has stuffed animals though. She gets Monkey on nights where we were out late and she fell asleep in the car. And she gets it when she has to nap in her stroller when we aren't home. She gets it to play with in the morning if we are out late so we can get more sleep. She doesn't need it to fall asleep so it works.

I figure once she is in her "big girl" bed then she will get it more often and get a pillow too.

I just gave DS a blanket this week. We took the binky away cold turkey three days ago so I figured giving him a blanket would comfort him a little bit instead.

We still use a sleep sack (the one with the footholes) at night because he just moves around too much. I tried a blanket a few times and it wound up squished into the corner of the crib and it definitely gets chilly enough in our house at night that even a light blanket is necessary. It made me way too uncomfortable worrying if he was cold so we just keep using the sacks. For naps at home and at day care he uses a blanket, though.

@eyenigh, I know that my LO is about as big as your so what do you use for a sleep sack?

The ones with the footholes run big and he even still has an 18-24 month one that works well but I buy the 2T/3T now. He's pretty lanky though so if your guy is stockier, you may def need the 2T/3T for the body but it'll be a little long. Just don't let him run around on hardwood floors or anything, lol.

We've been using a blanket/sheet for a while now. She sleeps so much better and doesn't wriggle as much. She has just started to start covering herself up again if she rolls around and get out from under it.

No, I think I might try the 18-24 month with the footholes first. Alexander is 37.5 inches/30 pounds and the sack skims the floor. 3 inches would be a big difference in length and would definitely be trippable.

The sizing on the ones with the footholes is weird because it doesn't take into consideration that the footholes add a little room so the 18-24 month ones fit longer and better than you'd expect. Like they base the size off of where the feet would hit in a closed sack. I feel like it's hard to explain.

I am not paranoid about blankets anymore, but DS gets annoyed whenever I try to cover him with a blanket. He doesn't like anything covering his feet. I will have to look into that sleep sack with the foot holes, thanks @eyenigh!

Great tips! Dd could still fit in the Xl A&A sleep sacks we have but we got away from using them in the summer. It has been three nights and she has slept amazingly so who knows. Each morning she woke up still appropriately under the blanket. I think she is like pp who mentioned their dc wiggles less with blankets!

No blanket here. But we're in the South so the temp really isn't a concern. I've always kept the bedding quilt folded over the side of his crib and he occasionally pulls that down. But I think he's too active of a sleeper to really want something to cover him.

I just started using the quilt that came with our crib set in the past couple weeks and let him graduate up to using the toddler pillow since he had a stuffy nose and got used to having it.

We still use a sack too- I figure we will use it for awhile. I realized the other day it would also prevent crib jumping haha
