Hi all! It's late in the game but I am happy to share that little Ezekiel was born Monday September 23rd at 10am. He was 8lbs 9oz 21 inches long and full of spirit.
I went into labor while watching the Emmy's Sunday night. I guess NPH is a labor inducer. Contractions went from 11 to 7 to 5 minutes apart fairly quickly so at 1:30 am we headed to the birth center.
The 45 min drive was less awful than I expected. I had about 7 contractions during that time. I started to feel naseuas and was pretty sure I'd throw up.
We got to the center in record time, 2:00. We got situated in a room and started to get comfy. My midwife checked me and I was 2cm dialated and 100% effaced. I got in the tub and started laboring in there, but not before vomiting up that chocolate shake that I had craved earlier in the evening.
I labored in the tub, shower, on the toilet and in the bed for the next few hours. I mostly moaned or growled and tried to control my breathing. We listened to Mumford and sons pandora station which I think was just the right choice. I was checked at 6:30 or 7 and was 5.5cm. Then things got pretty darn intense. My contractions were very strong and I had overwhelming push urges. I didn't feel like bathroom urges, more like vomiting urges. It was like my body was taken over by the urge. My husband was a fantastic partner. An hour later and I was 9.5 cm. I had a lip cervix thing so my midwife worked with me during pushes to push past it. It hurt but in a few pushes the lip was gone and I was in full push mode.
My water didn't break on its own so my midwife broke it towards the very end of pushing. Holy meconium batman! Our poor little man was pretty doused in his own crap when he came crying into the world two hours after I started pushing. The experience itself wasn't crappy but was by far the hardest thing I've ever been through. It was life changing. We love our healthy baby Zeke and are enjoying our first days as a family.
