Well then...didn't see where this was heading! I just called my doctor and spoke with the nurse. She stated that they do not see negative side effects from Clomid, other than one woman who had some sore of an allergic reaction to the medication.
My guess is that many stories I'm hearing are the negative ones. Maybe I'm dumb/naive for thinking that. Women who take this drug and have success aren't going to come on these forums looking for help, whereas women who DO have negative effects will come looking for help to share similar stories. This explains why every clomid story on here seems to be a negative one.
We'll see how it goes. I truly feel like I'm not taking any risks doing this; my husband and I have prayed for direction, and we both feel like taking this medication may be what it takes to lead us in the right direction to get pregnant.
I've had a clean bill of health my whole life. No history of cysts or anything, and bloodwork taken back in June came back totally normal. My cycles before Yaz where like clockwork. I don't feel like I was being hasty by calling the doctor for help when I started having 70+ day cycles. That just didn't seem normal, and I'm glad I went.
Long story short: I'm taking clomid unmonitored, and I have faith that this will work out! Like I said, I bet there are thousands more positive stories than the handful of negative ones I've read on here.
Just so you're aware, your OB probably wouldn't see the negative side effects because they don't monitor. The RE the person goes to after no success on Clomid would find those. GL on not messing up your fertility and stuff.

Ok genius. Let me throw this one out there to you ... If you knew you had thin lining or a cyst would you still continue this stupid treatment? Would you still take the chance or ovarian torsion or risk NEVER being able to have an egg implant?

I didn't realize 10% means it happens to everyone like you all are trying to suggest.
Your right it means that it happens to 10% of patients and because you are not monitored, you will have no idea if you are in the 10% or not. If you are lucky and have a cyst and continue to take clomid, the clomid will cause that cyst to grow and if it gets large enough it can damage your ovary or fallopian tube.

JFC there is so much wrong with this. Do you think maybe they don't see negative side effects with Clomid because THEY DON'T MONITOR? And we've certainly had people here who have been successful with Clomid but there are also people who have had thinned lining or cysts and had their cycles canceled. It's not some miracle drug. I took Clomid for three cycles and had no issues but I also didn't get pregnant either.

OP, I don't understand your impatience. I read an old post of yours and you came off of BC in April. So far, you've been told by several Bumpies that your body needs time to regulate itself after coming off of the pill and today, that Clomid unmonitored is seriously bad for you, but you refuse to listen and take the advice. I really hope you reconsider the risk you're about to take and at least get the proper bloodwork done and find a RE that will take the proper steps and precautions.
Whatever ghost. I have had testing done. I have had all the cd3 blood work and the a p4 at 7dpo. I had a unltrasound done prior to clomid and I have also had an hsg. But you go ahead and make you assumptions that just proves what an ass you are.
OMG, I just looked at your chart. You are on met too. God your OB is just treating all kinds of things they know nothing about and then not monitor you at all. Score.
I wonder if you get high blood pressure in your life if you will monitor that to make sure your meds are working at all, or if you would just assume that they are and hope you don't drop over dead because they actually caused a bigger issue than the one you started with.
I'm going to hijack this thread for a moment. @ghostmonkey (or anyone else) is there a reason to not take met and clomid together or is there additional monitoring that needs to be done? I'm on met now and my re wants to move to clomid next. I want to make sure I'm not making an asinine mistake like op. Thanks

There is nothing wrong with taking metformin and clomid together. That statement by ghost was made assuming my ob didn't do any testing and was giving me meds that my body does not need.

This kind of crap makes me nuts! As someone who does pray, wtf? It is amazing to me that for some people the will of God somehow always seems to line up with what they selfishly want. I understand wanting a baby. I even understand being impatient. It sucks to want something so badly and not have that much control over getting it. But you were already leaning this way. You knew what you wanted. Don't use God or faith as the excuse that justified what could be a really stupid action. Did you think YHWH was going to appear as a burning bush and say "Don't take unmonitored medication, wait and see a specialist."? No, you want a baby and you want one now and damn the consequences further down the line.
I believe that God gave us free will and intelligence that we need to use to navigate life. He also sends us other people who can give us perspective on our decisions. I have an example of someone not being a total dumbass even when it would have been easy for her and her husband to say that the Lord told them to do something dangerous:
I have a friend who is a very good Catholic (much better than me). The most important thing she wanted from life was to get married and have a big Catholic family. She met her husband in college, they got married, and started trying to have babies. She had always had some issues with her reproductive organs, but they had that under control. Her first pregnancy went okay. Her second was not as good and she had to be really closely monitored. Her third was horrific. She had every problem in the book and ended up on extended bedrest, went into premature labor, and nearly died on the table during her C-section. The baby survived and is healthy. Her doctors had talked to her and her husband during the pregnancy and told them that this really had to be the last one. That she really needed a hysterectomy. That if she ever got pregnant again it would kill her, full stop. After 3rd baby was born, they really sat down and they prayed about it. And instead of going with that whole "God will protect me, faith will find a way" bullshit, she had the surgery. They are now looking into adoption to grow their family.
I know this had nothing to do with Clomid, but, seriously, take responsibility for your own actions, You are being selfish and a little willfully ignorant about this. I hope things work out for you. And I hope that even if you do get pregnant now, there are not longer term consequences.

Damn it, statements like this ARE encouraging others to do this unmonitored. Wow you need to stop.
And if she needs proof that this encourages reckless behavior in others, she doesn't have to look far, since the OP has decided to follow along the same dangerous path. And why? Because there are so many unmonitored success stories.
Where or where is the thread by the bumpie who took unmonitored clomid and wound up in the ER and lost one of her tubes?
I just had to say I get the impatience. It would be great if clomid was this magic fertility drug that got us all pregnant with a snap of our fingers. However, this is the real world, and in the real world there is protocol for a reason. There is also consequences in the real world. Good luck.
This this this-ity this. I don't think it's that people here are so enamored of doing things the hard way. I don't think it's because we all love peeing on things and timing sex and getting blood drawn and going through losses and waiting for appointments and setting alarms to stick thermometers in our mouths. It's not done because it's fun. It's done because people on here want a baby (or know they will want a baby). And want a baby without doing possible long term damage to our internal organs. If my doctor could offer me a magic pill tomorrow that had no chance of ill side effects and would get me pregnant this month, would I take it? I'd take it like my dogs taking a treat when they're excited. I would nip my doctor's hand in my hurry to get it in my mouth. In a heartbeat. I don't enjoy the peeing and waiting. But, this is the real world, and everything has some degree of consequence. So, you make the appointments and figure out what's going to work for you instead of downing heavy meds without thinking.

I am taking Clomid too. I'm not sure what you guys mean by being "monitored"?
I have to take it from days 5-9 of my cycle, but my doctor did make sure that I was wanted to get pregnant before she prescribed it.
I am taking both Clomid and Provera. I have to call and update my doctor every month to tell her if my period started, if I ovulated, etc. But I do not have any other monitoring.
No, it would not be okay to take Clomid unmonitored for any reason. One point of monitoring is to make sure that you don't have any cysts prior to taking the Clomid and to make sure that the Clomid doesn't cause you to develop any cysts. Ruptured cysts are not only painful but they can lead to internal bleeding.
The other reason you need to be monitored is to make sure that you don't overstimulate your ovaries and produce too many eggs. You know who took Clomid unmonitored? Kate Gosselin. Unless you feel the need for a reality show or a hospital visit, step away from the unmonitored Clomid.
Well, looks like my doctor has some explaining to do. I am about to call her up!
I think I need to get some monitoring done!
ETA: Btw, I was not completely oblivious to monitoring. I read on here and on the pamphlet that you should be monitored, and I asked my OB about it. She is one who said "Oh, you just need to call and update." She mentioned nothing about ultrasounds or any other monitoring. I think I may need to change OBs. I am now concerned.

Oh lord, read this thread and the link that Jefa posted.
I did. My OB and I are about to have a serious discussion. I AM PISSED that I asked her about monitoring and she said just to call her. I know it is my fault for not reading more about it, but she's my freaking doctor, so I feel like it is her responsibility too!

I know....it seems stupid...but I was saying that my doctor (though I did just find out that she is a moron) did make sure that I was not just taking it to see if I would ovulate.

@MeatandBandP when was I warned before? I'm not saying you are wrong but I have been off the bump for a while and maybe I missed it? Or I'm an idiot who didn't listen, but I truly don't remember
@jaytee16 I was changing doctors, so when I went in I told her about my irregular cycles and that I was not getting positive OPKs. Doctor told me I need to get started on provera and Clomid. She said it was obvious that I was not ovulating. She was so sure of everything that I guess I just believed everything without much question. I'll know better this time.

Ok genius. Let me throw this one out there to you ... If you knew you had thin lining or a cyst would you still continue this stupid treatment? Would you still take the chance or ovarian torsion or risk NEVER being able to have an egg implant?

TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.
Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!
Thanks
October, 2013- Metformin + 50mg Clomid + iui - BFN

So grateful to have read this
@jaytee16 I was changing doctors, so when I went in I told her about my irregular cycles and that I was not getting positive OPKs. Doctor told me I need to get started on provera and Clomid. She said it was obvious that I was not ovulating. She was so sure of everything that I guess I just believed everything without much question. I'll know better this time.
