Working Moms

What time do YOU go to bed/wake up?

On an average weekday, what time do you go to bed? What time do you wake up in the morning?

I am contemplating a schedule change at work, so I am just curious. Right now I go to bed around 10:30 - 11 pm and get up around 6:45. It sounds like a lot, but I have never been a good sleeper. I am up 2 - 3 times a night, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for an hour or so.

My new schedule would have me getting up MUCH earlier - probably by 5:30 or so. So I would imagine I'll be crashing before 10.

  • 10:30/11-6:45 hardly sounds like a lot of sleep in the first place, even if you STTN!

I go to bed anywhere between 9:30 and 10:30.  I get up at 5:15 or 6, depending on whether I work out that morning.  I aim for 7.5 hours of sleep, since that's where I function best.

  • I'm in bed between 9 and 9:30, asleep (hopefully) by 10 or 10:30. I take a while to fall asleep. Up at 6:45. Oh, and still up with LO 1 - 3 times per night. THat's why I go to bed so early...

That's almost 8 hours...I think that would be pretty good if I STTN!

Then maybe "a lot" compared to people who are chronically sleep-deprived, but not that much compared to what most experts say you should aim for.  It *should* be considered normal if people weren't so busy burning the candle from both ends!

  • In bed by 10:00 but try to be asleep by 9:30. Up at 4:30. DD wakes up about 4 times a night. I am chronically sleep deprived.

  • Bed at 1130pm, up at 630am. It works for me.

There is no way I could function on this.  As much as I'd like to stay up late, I'm usually crashing by 9pm.  I'm up with a two month old usually once anywhere between 1-3am.  Fortunately, she usually eats and goes right back to sleep and I'll get up around 6am for the day.  Apparently, I need quite a bit of sleep and I can't even blame it on pregnancy anymore!
  • In bed by 9 (I bedshare with DS), usually asleep by 9 or 9:30, up at 6 or 6:33.  DS still nurses throughout the night so I'm awake anytime he is squeeling for boobage.

  • You people get up EARLY! Lately I've been up until 11:30/midnight, and waking up between 7 and 7:30. My older 2 kids are up until 10ish. The baby goes to sleep around 8:30 and usually wakes once overnight.

  • Bed by 10, up at 5am.  DS still wakes up at least once most nights, and starting around 4:30 - 5 he gets restless and wakes me up because he's tossing and turning and whining "Mama."  Sometimes he resettles himself and I don't need to go in there, but regardless I am awake.  So even on weekends when I can "sleep in" until the kids get up (between 6 and 6:30 every.single.day) I am pretty much awake by 5.

I am tired.  Can you tell??  I miss sleep.

  • In bed by 10, usually asleep by 10:30.  DD2 wakes up at least once to eat around 3 or 4, and I rarely get back to sleep before DH's alarm goes off at 5:30.  I should be up by 6, absolutely have to be up by 6:15.  So about once a week, I get into bed at like 8:30 and fall asleep by 9.

DH and I take turns sleeping in on the weekends.  "Sleeping in" means 8 or 8:30.  Our kids like to get up crazy early.

  • I get 10 hours (bed at 9:30, up at 6:30). I'm partly embarrassed to admit that, but I also believe that sleep is the fountain of youth, lol. I just don't function as well if I get less than 9 hours sleep.

You are my hero. This is me too. And one day, when DD remembers how to sleep past 5am, I will STILL go to bed at 930.

  • I try to go to bed by 9:30, but it's usually 10. I get up by 5:30 (5:15 if I don't snooze). Both kids have been up multiple times per night for the past few weeks, and I am hurting.

  • DH sleeps from 10 pm to 5 am. I usually get in bed with him and then read or play on my phone until 10:30 or 11:00. I get up anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30 depending on DS and my work schedule that day.

Well, that was before. Right now I have a two week old so I just sleep whenever I can!

  • Asleep between 10:30-11pm most days, up between 6:30-7am. If I was in bed & asleep around 10pm, I probably wouldn't need coffee.

  • In bed around midnight.  Up at 7:15 a.m.  As long as I get a solid 7 hours I'm fine.  I don't get up at night.  Baby is STTN now.

Some nights I try to go to bed earlier, like if I don't go to the gym in the evening.  Last night for example I fell asleep with the baby at like 9:30.  Woke up at 10:30 and decided to stay in bed.  It actually backfired because I woke up MORE tired this morning.

  • I go to bed between 11:30 and 12:00 on most nights. Up between 5:30 and 6. Only exception is the weeknight that I play ice hockey in the evening. On those nights, I don't get to bed until 1:30. I usually try to sleep until 6:45 on those mornings. I need 6 hrs to function, but I rarely get it.

  • I work 11am-11pm, so I usually go to bed between 1-2am and get up at 9:30 am. It's not ideal with a LO, but I'm hoping for a new job with a more normal schedule soon. It is nice though to only work 3 days a week and be home with DS the other 4 days. But I think we would all do better with a schedule like (most of) the rest of you.

  • What mom with little kids isn't at least a tad bit sleep deprived???  my problem is TV - I love to unwind, watch the news, some reality shows, etc.  so I always end up going to bed too late..  usually I try to sleep by 10:30pm, DD gets up 1-2x/night, then the days I work I"m up at 5:30, the days I'm home I try to sleep in a bit more if she lets me.  Typically I never get longer than a 3 hour stretch w/o being woken up by DD or DS...  =(  I really miss my sleep too, but I remind myself almost daily this is not forever... and then grab another cup of coffee!!

  • I try to go to bed between 11 and 11:30, but sometimes it's midnight.  I get up about 6:15/6:30.  DS is up several times in the middle of the night, so I probably get 6 hours of sleep on a good night.  No wonder I can't lose my baby weight!

I have always been a late night person.  By the time I get myself and DS' stuff ready for the next day, make dinner/clean up, and shower (I shower at night), it is often 10 pm, and I need some time to relax before bed.
