On the sleep topic...

My ds is an early riser. As of three weeks ago he went from 6am to 5 or 5:30am wake ups. He also has transitioned in this time to one nap on his own. However, he has pretty much stopped naps altogether! He maybe gets an hour in if we are lucky but yesterday it was ten minutes all day. He goes to bed at 7, up at 5:30, and only napping 10-60 minutes all day. Doesn't he need more sleep? He's cranky when I get home from work. How can I encourage better sleep?

He's always been a decent sleeper so I'm perplexed why he dropped his naps and got an earlier wake up time!

Re: On the sleep topic...

  • What time is his one nap supposed to be?

  • My only guesses are the times need to adjust or there's a new skill brewing. Howell is obsessed with going downstairs and he's had some fitful nights lately. So every day we go to the park and go up and down and up and down and up and down the stairs. The whole time he says "Git din!" I think it's "get down" but who knows?

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • His nap is supposed to be between 12:30 and 1.

He did learn how to stand up without assistance and his walking has improved a lot! But I thought that now he has done it it should be returning to normal? Any suggestions on timing? He's with a sitter so it's flexible but not completly because they do preschool pick ups around 12:15.
  • In my house, when it's nap time, it's nap time. It is sacred and not to be trifled with.

How is nap time initiated? Is the sitter waiting for him to act tired?

  • I think at this point it's more a time of day thing then anything. He was refusing morning naps so they went to just the earlier afternoon nap time which is what I keep on weekends. Plus when he did two naps a day his pm was still around 1 or 1:30.

I know he's sleepy but he's so curious. The other kids all sleep about two hours and the sitter says she can't even get lunch in before he wakes up!
  • I'm not sure what his nap environment is like, but if there is anything else going on J will not sleep. He's a light sleeper and so curious about what's going on around him.
