Geez! Is today national bring your husband to doctor visit day! I'm the only one here without my husband lol.

Just wondering...do your SO go with you to every apt?

Re: Doctor visits

  • Yes!  Dh missed an appointment for the first time this week because he went back to work, and the Doc actually made a comment coming in the door and not seeing him about how this was the first appointment he missed!

  • Really? I wish my husband could take off work everytime but with these every week apt it's hard.
  • Nope, my fiancé sometimes works out of town. And plus my doc told me he didn't have to come with me to my next appts at my very first appt since it only took about 5-10 mins after the first one.
  • Usually not, but occasionally he will come with me. He has been coming with me lately because my doctor wants to induce me, and I'd rather have my husband there listening to what he has to say. Honestly, I don't think bringing my husband to every doctors visit is necessary, but I do like when he comes with me to get NSTs done.
  • Mine only made it to the at scan. But a lot of women bring their dh to every apt at the office I go to. I have had a pretty low risk pregnancy so not sure there would have been a reason to bring him.

  • My husband has tried to come to the ultrasounds but those are really the only appointments he's been interested in and it wasn't worth him taking all that time off from work since his job isn't as flexible as mine is.

  • He's missed a total of 3 appts between the three different doctors I've been seeing (OB, MFM, and nutritionist due to GD). Two of those he missed bc he was out of town. One of those was an ultrasound and he was SO bummed! The other he missed bc I had two in one day and he couldn't get time off to go to both. The one time he missed a regular OB appt, everyone in the office commented on it, haha!

I did tell him a couple of times that he didn't need to come to every single appt, but he insisted that he wanted to be there. I'm certainly not going to discourage him.

  • Nope, not usually. He comes to some of my ultrasounds because he likes seeing the babies but never comes to my regular OB visits.

  • Mine has come to every appointment. He just takes his lunch break. I told him he didn't need to, but he insists. It's probably a good thing, because I always forget the questions I have and he always remembers to ask them.

  • Nope. Only when an ultrasound was scheduled or when he was concerned about something in the pregnancy.

My last appt was yesterday and DH did not go. Which is fine. It was boring anyway.

  • he came w for the first few then he deployed, now im just hoping he makes it back before the birth! his leadershi[ still doesnt have a date for sure :/

  • No. He doesn't need to miss work just to hear a heartbeat, since thats all my appts consist of. We have a doppler at home for that. He came for the 2 ultrasounds we got and thats it. I'd rather him save his time off for when the baby is here.

  • Not every visit. He usually goes to the ones with an US, and he went last visit to meet my MW.

  • I was getting monthly ultrasounds and my FI would come for those but now that I will be going to the doctors every week he won't be coming.  It takes longer for him to get to the office then the appointment takes, so I see no point.

  • Nope, only the first appt and the anatomy scan. He came to more last time, but really it's not worth him taking off of work to hear the hb, especially now when I am there weekly.

  • Good I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes solo. He has been there for ultrasounds and the first apt but other than that I agree it's pretty boring.
  • Nope. He's been to probably 3 appointments this pregnancy, but I've been going weekly since 32 weeks and he's just too busy at work to go each week. It seems like I'm always the only one in the waiting room without her husband, but I'm used to it.

  • Nope but he watches dd so i dont have to drag her along.

  • He came to my first appt, and then came to the ultrasound appts. It's hard to get an appt time that you actually want at my office, so they're usually mid-morning. He has an hour commute to work, so that would just really screw up his whole day. If I make it to 40 weeks, I may want him to come to that appt and (heaven forbid) any after that in the event our doc wants us to make any decisions on inductions, etc.

  • He came to the first apt and the anatomy scan. In general visits are pretty routine, so I don't see the need for him to come. He did go with me to L&D when I was having problems earlier this week. It was a comfort having him there.

  • No, he doesn't come to every one, only the first time we listened for the HB and the U/S appointments. Neither of us see the point in him coming to the others.

  • Yeap my fiance has been to every one, except when they called me in day-before for my first tri screen results. The results were not good, but we elected to have more tests done and it turned in out to be fine. Since then he wouldn't be okay with me going alone.
  • He comes to every appointment..he uses them as an excuse to get out of work I think..such a lazy butt somethings :) But I don't mind, with pregnancy brain running full course, I forget everything I think of asking. Haha
  • No I don't expect him to take off work weekly for my 10 minute appts. He doesn't work far from the office so I knew if I needed him he could be there quickly. He did come to an ultrasound appt and he came to my appt with MFM..which also was the appointment I was diagnosed with IUGR so I'm glad he was with me.

DH has only gone to the anatomy scan.  He wanted to go to the dating u/s around 8w but couldn't make it due to work.  He wanted to go to the NT Scan but couldn't make it because he was out of the country for work.

With DS he only went to my intake appointment and the 2 u/s.

ETA:  We don't see the point in him taking a day off work to go to a 10 minute appointment where all I do is get weighed, pee in a cup, blood pressure, and questions.  Now I get NSTs and internals.  Still not worth him coming to listen to the HB for 15-20 minutes.

  • He has only come to the ultrasound appointments. I see a lot of husband atthe doctor too though.

  • Kind of... lol We only have one car so he takes me to appointments, but then he usually leaves and entertains DD while I'm in there.

  • My H has been to 2 of my 3 ultrasounds and none of my OB visits.

  • Mine went to the first couple when we found out, as well as the 20 week scan. After that, everything was fine and routine, so he didn't attend. I'd rather he not take the personal days and keep it for when the baby comes.

Yesterday at my appt, there were so many dads in the waiting room. It was obvious that they had JUST found out and were all clutching these little blobby ultrasound pics and beaming from ear to ear. It was so sweet to see. Made my bitter, jaded 35w pregnant ass cry a little bit. ;)

  • Nah . . . not worth the time. He came to the a/s at 20 weeks and the follow up u/s at 26 weeks. He's also come to the two growth scans (32 and 36). That's a lot!

  • Nope. He came to the "biggies" and if he gets off early enough to come to a late appointment, he will come. Not a big deal for me to go by myself though. I kind of like alone time though. Despite the strangers..
  • DH has only been to one of my appts this time around and that was because it was at the family clinic where he was working. Last time he was able to come to my dating ultrasound. The military doesn't really give two shits about stuff like that, but they did let him get off to keep DD1 for a couple of my appts which was way more helpful.

  • No, he only came to my 8 week appointment where they did the dating ultrasound. It's too hard to coordinate our schedules.

  • Nope! The first and anatomy scan. I am in there for literally 5 minutes.
  • He came to a couple of appointments early on so he could meet the doctors and came to the NT scan, anatomy scan, and 32 week growth scan. His job is not flexible so it's not easy for him to make it to appointments. I like it when he comes, but it's not really necessary most of the time.

  • DH's boss is leaving the end of October, and he's stepping into his position when he gets back from paternity leave, so things have been a little hectic for him. He missed my last u/s and was pretty bummed about it. I don't really mind when he misses my appointments, its not like the baby knows if he's there or not. The only reason I like having him there is so he keeps me company while I wait, especially during those boring NSTs. After the baby's born all the appointments will be at his clinic, since the pediatrician is the office next door to my primary, where he works.
  • DH has only been to one of my appts this time around and that was because it was at the family clinic where he was working. Last time he was able to come to my dating ultrasound. The military doesn't really give two shits about stuff like that, but they did let him get off to keep DD1 for a couple of my appts which was way more helpful.
Must be your command! DH's command has been really supportive. In the midst of 4 corpsmen babies being born this year.
  • He did at the beginning, and we even took DD to my anatomy scan, but I actually decided I didn't want either of them coming with me anymore.  I have literally NO time to just sit and think, so my few minutes at the doctor's office has become my time.  :)
