April 2014 Moms

Spotting question

I am a first time mommy and I am 9 weeks 4 days. I had a ultrasound done 2 weeks ago and saw our little bean with a heart rate of 166. I started spotting last Tuesday. It started out dark went to light and then kinda tapered off. However it came back Saturday very light only see it when I wipe. It is more like dark discharge. Then this morning it was a little red now back to dark. I am having no cramping but my lower abdomen is kinda tender. Any moms out there experience spotting?

Re: Spotting question

  • I am a bleeder... that sounds pretty light and with no cramping I would think you are fine :)

  • But I'm no dr...
  • Thanks for the feedback. I do have a call into my OB. It is light thanks again
  • I have spotting after each transvaginal ultrasound or if I have sex for "too long". Try to relax as much as you can and drink plenty of water. Some of us are just a bit more sensitive down there.

  • Thanks for the replay!
  • I wouldn't worry about it at this point.  When we had our miscarriage it was bright red and excessive... if it starts to get brighter red and more than just when you wipe then I would call the doctor.  Some people just tend to spot frequently in the first trimester due to the implantation and development of the placenta.  Make sure to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest!

  • It sounds like it's nothing to worry about but it's great that you're checking with your doctor!

I had spotting for a few days a couple of weeks ago. I even had some mild cramps. The doctor's office called me back and asked that I increase the amount of water I'm drinking and the fiber in my diet. They also had me start taking a stool softener once a day to regulate and ease any strain. I know that's TMI but that's all it took to clear it up for me. They said some women are just more prone to spot with any kind of activity near the cervix.
  • I am a spotter too! I called my dr. the first few times it started and they said as long as you weren't cramping and/or going through 2 heavy pads per hour it is most likely alright. My dr also said some women bleed lightly during pregnancy and that is their normal.

I know it's nerve wracking, I share the same nervousness. I think I will feel better after my next apt. when we hear the heart beat.

    Hang in there!
  • When I was pregnant with Henrietta I had a friable cervix, which made me bleed lots of red blood every time we had sex and every time I had a bowel movement, and even times in between - like if I sneezed or laughed really hard. It was very scary, but it's apparently normal for a lot of women. It's always a good idea to inform your doctor. Good luck!

  • Well that would make sense because I think my prenatals are doing a number on my bowls!!! And the bleeding seems to stars in the mornings after I have tried to go to the bathroom. It is to late to call my OB right now. Anyone know of a safe stool softener? Sorry about the TMI

They told me just any regular, over-the-counter stool softener is fine. I'm taking dulcolax every day with my prenatal vitamins and over time it has helped a lot! Hope it clears up as easily for you :)
  • I take colace, it was on my doctors list of things you can take.
