I was reading an article about push presents this morning. I didn't get anything for my first, although I got a very nice diamond ring for my birthday 2.5 weeks after he was born.
Do you think push presents are a good or bad idea. I am indifferent and don't care either way. I think my son was the greatest gift ever, but it was also nice to get an extra special birthday present right after too.

Re: Push present?!
Push presents have been around for a long time....they just weren't called that. My Nana had a special piece of jewlery to "commemorate" each one of her four children. My mom gave me an ornament and a necklace as a gift for "enterning" motherhood. My husband did nothing special for me personally, just became a great father to DS.
The idea that it is necessary or expected is ridiculous to me....

Not a "push present" but no present could really compare!

Balaustine: an anthology about wanting family
I personally think they are dumb. Not every event in life needs to come with a present. Hell, the baby is more than gift enough (not to mention all the gifts you likely get at your shower).
Got engaged? Here, here's a present because you made a decision! Getting married? Give your spouse a gift! Someone hosted a baby shower for you? Send them a huge gift basket! Enough with the presents. And to clarify on that last point, I think a heartfelt thank you to a hostess and maybe some flowers is more than enough to express gratitude. The ladies in my family throw showers because they want to, not to recieve any kind of gift in retrurn.
Rant over.

But, yes, it's totally personal/couple preference. And I do agree with others...with 2 kids I'm very scared of expenses. If he did it again...I may tell him to return for diapers...maybe
