Pregnant after 35

If you got pregnant when you were 35.

Good morning everyone,

I know this question is very individual, but just wanted to get some feedback anyway. I juwst turned 35 in August. If you were 35 when you got pregnant, how long did it take you to conceive? Thanks for your help.

We started trying in November (I turned 35 in October) and got my BFP in May. I used OPK's, took my temp (charting -  I think stressed me out way too much so I finally stopped) and in April I used PreSeed. I'm almost certain that did the trick. TMI....? sorry.

Edit * Poster below me reminded me that I used Mucinex as well. I used that beginning in December.

I swear it was the PreSeed!!

  • Side note:  stellar77:  I also used Preseed!  Either it was coincidence or it was just my time, but I have to say, it seems to have worked!

  • I've used Pre-seed x 2 months. Nothing yet :-(
  • Hi Nicole!  OK, I actually used PreSeed off and on for maybe a total of 3 months.  Also, I was eyeballing my ovulation dates but nothing hard core.  I had a friend who was 36 and trying for 1.5 years and after using PreSeed, became pregnant after 2 months.  I am usually very skeptical about stuff like this to be honest, but she got pregnant and recommended it to me and etc.

Sorry, I know this isn't a lubricant question.. maybe got a little side tracked. :)  How long have you been trying?

  • I got pregnant 2 times while I was 35.  Unfortunately they both ended in miscarriage.  1 surprise BFP and 1 treatment cycle: (Clomid/Trigger/IUI)

The week of my 36th birthday we conceived completely naturally.  I happened to catch my ovulation surge (I have a very short 5-8 hours surge period), used Pre Seed, and took some Muchinex.  I'm not sure if the PreSeed or Muchinex works but it can't hurt to try :-)

    Good luck!

  • Starting trying in August 2012, turned 35 in February 2013, BFP in July 2013. So it took us almost a year. This is with charting the entire time, using OPK the last 5 months. We used Preseed the entire time. I acutally got pregnant after 3 months of TTC DS but I was 30 at the time. The first month we used preseed we got pregnant that time around.

We did find out that I had bacteria vaginosis almost the entire time we were TTC but after 2 rounds of antibiotics and DH getting treating. Plus finding out DH has .5% morphology so he was taking a lot of supplements we got pregnant.

  • Thanks ladies. We've only been trying for 3 months now, but the turning 35 thing gets me really worried. Wondering if my fertility just took a nosedive.
  • This is my 3rd and it was a surprise BFP but we only tried for one month with my other 2.

Oh I remember what I was going to post. Poster below reminded me that I used Mucinex as well. Began that in November when we TTC.

Don't get discouraged, 3 months is not very long for TTC. It can take a lot of women UNDER 35 longer than that to get pregnant, so there is really no reason to start thinking you aren't fertile. Turning 35 does not magically make you suddenly OLD although it's easy to think that way with all of the attention given to AMA.

Having said that, have you let your OB/GYN know that you are TTC? I highly recommend you start that communication process so they can monitor if they do think something is wrong. Normally they don't consider any testing until you've been trying for 6 months.

I also highly recommend you try charting and learn as much as you can about your cycles. Fertility Friend has a free online chart, it helped me immensely and I am now 31 weeks pregnant at age 40. Good luck!!

I don't know if this will help or hurt, but I started trying shortly after my 34th birthday. We tried for three years and got pregnant the month I turned 37. Remind yourself that there's nothing inherently special about age 35 versus 34 or 36, it's just how researchers have opted to group maternal age.

  • Only one cycle this time.  I quit taking my BCP in February, had a period in March and that was it.  I turned 36 in July.  It took almost 2 years to conceive baby #2 though and I had her at 34.

  • Well, I think it's fairly obvious from all the posts that everyone is different, but even just from one pregnancy to the other. For #1, I was 34, we tried for 2 months and we conceived about 1 week before my 35th birthday. For #2, I was 36, we tried for 8 months and we conceived the cycle before I was scheduled to start medicated cycles. The cycle we got pregnant, I stopped charting, stopped everything and we had sex every other day from day 10 to the day I got my BFP. Personally, I was so relieved when I stopped temping, so much less stressful! Good luck!

  • I just turned 35 in August as well.  I got pregnant in July, so I was a few weeks shy of being 35 when I got pregnant.  We started trying last Fall, so it took about 9 months.  However, my cycles were all wacky until recently (a combination of weight loss and the Metformin medication helped them get on track).  So we actually got pregnant on my 7th cycle.

    Good luck!

  • I got pregnant 2 times after turning 35, one after 3 months of not really trying, but not protecting either which ended in a chemical pregnancy.  The 2nd time was after 6 months (3 months after previous).  During the last cycle I charted and temp'd and it *really* helped.
Good luck to you!  Don't get discouraged!

  • We had been trying to get pregnant for about a year, last October we had an ectopic that burst requiring surgery.  Then when we did hsg in January they told us never be able to conceive on our own.  I turned 35 in March, very depressed about it, but determined to forge on.  I requested a 2nd hsg and that was done in May, showing the same tube I had my ectopic in was open and clear, I had a bfp less than a month later.  I'm now at 20 weeks and can't wait.
  • My husband and I started trying in May of this year and we conceived at the end of June.  I'm 36 and was on some form of birth control since the age of 16 or 17 (due to painful periods and the start of endometriosis) and we conceived completely natural (no OPK's, temping or charting either).  We consider ourselves very fortunate and hope it will be so easy our next time around.  I know it's different for everyone but I hope my story gives you hope...and I hope it happens for you real soon!  Fx'd for you!

  • I'm 35 and I went off the pill in January after being on it for 15 years.  We weren't really trying so no charting and I didn't use pre-seed because I didn't really like it.  I had a vague idea of when I was ovulating but didn't really focus on it and I got pregnant in August.  I was actually surprised how easy it was because I had heard how hard it was as you got older but as my doctor said, you never know til you start trying!

  • I'm 36 and was thinking the same thing. I had a miscarriage last year technically at 4 weeks bur didn't know until 7 weeks. Right now I'm 15 dpo. 4 prego tests all with faint lines but definitely prego symptoms. I used the method of checking my cervical position this month and it worked the 1st time. I made sure I did it when my cervix was high flat and open. You can barely feel it. I actually use this method to not get pregnant because my doctor took me off bcp because of my age??? I took frolic acid and a daily vitamin. Hopefully the bean sticks because the wait is agony! I read that only 25 percent of women become pregnant when they ovulate. I don't know if that is accurate.

  • We started ttc in April 2013 and got a bfp in June but lost it early on. So back to ttc using ovulation calendars and two months of nothing again. I ordered some preseed and the month we tried it during o time we get a bfp. I do have 3 children from a previous marriage and never had any ttc waits so this not getting a bfp first try was hard for me to understand. I swear it was the preseed that did it. I think it was the missing link in his swimmers getting to where they needed to be

  • We decided to go off OCs a few weeks before my 35th birthday and at that time, had read somewhere that average was 9 months TTC for that age bracket. Expecting to fall somewhere around that, we were very (happily) surprised when I got my BFP only two months later! But you never really know... we've had friends go through every imaginable experience.

  • It took us 8 cycles (with charting), during that time I was dx with an infertility condidtion,  so I was very lucky to get pregnant at all.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • We started trying in early June and got pregnant in September, so four cycles. I'm about 6 weeks. We used Pre-seed from the beginning which I think was helpful--seriously, I recommend it! Esp if you don't see a lot of cervical mucous (I've had much less as I've gotten older). In any case, started with strict charting, got sick of it because I was super regular and really didn't need it and the thermometer would wake my husband up when it beeped. So the last month I just used ovulation sticks and we had sex every 1-2 days throughout (even beyond) my window.

I think I'm lucky that things have happened quickly--the hardest thing about my pregnancy so far has been having to tell a good friend who's been trying for a few years now that we're expecting... hard for both of us, since she's becoming outnumbered in our circle by pregnant women.

  • We started trying in March 2012, and nothing happened for months and months. Then, I was diagnosed with a hormone imbalance and had surgery to remove some small fibroids in December 2012. After that, a few rounds of Clomid, and a positive test in September! So, overall, about 18 months. I'm 35 now.
  • Full on IF here, since I was 30. Now at 35, luckily, this go round we transferred 2 blasts and one took on our first try, so I am very thankful.

  • Not long at all! Which surprised me greatly. I turned 35 end of last August (2012), stopped BC in April. LMP may 31. Positive pregnancy test July 2 at 4w4d. Turned 36 on August 30 2013 and it was also start of 2nd trimester :) excited to find out oct 18 if our first child is a little boy or girl!
  • I turned 35 in May.  Got married in June and got pregnant on our honeymoon on our first shot!  We also used Pre-seed.  I tracked my period with an app, but that was about it.  I have at least three friends (that I know of) who are all younger than me who have been trying for three to six months with no luck.  I am feeling guilty (silly, I know) because it happened so quickly for us and my friends are struggling.  I just want my friends to be on this journey with me because they would all make amazing mommies!

  • I got pregnant my first cycle with DS1 right at my 35th birthday.
  • I'm 36.  I was 36 when I went off birth control last August after having been on it since I was 18.  I found out in March I was pregnant and am due in a month.  I used a period tracker on my iphone before getting pregnant so I could tell when I was ovulating.  Also, probably TMI, but had sex pretty frequently.  Another friend of mine who got pregnant at 35 said when she was trying for her second, they had sex every other day until they got pregnant.
  • I turned 35 in May and got off the pill. I got my BFP in August. This was the same way it was 2 years ago with my son, off the pill in September, BFP in November... my cycles have always been regular, so I used OPKs and a calendar.

  • I just turned 35 this year, and we have be trying for four years, had two miss carriages...we are praying this third pregnancy will be healthy. How about you?
  • I turned 35 in September and got pregnant in October.  This was our 4th cycle trying.  I did temping and charting for the first three months, then decided to try using an OPK and got pregnant the first month using that.  Still very early, so just praying for a healthy pregnancy and one healthy baby!
