Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Bubble baths

I've heard mixed reviews on giving toddlers bubble baths.  What's your opinion?  And do you have a favorite brand of bubble bath?  I do plan on asking our pediatrician later this week if it's safe.
So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Bubble baths

  • We gave DD a bubble bath the other day and she hated it. She started crying and I ended up having to rinse her off in the bathroom sink.

  • DD has always loved bubble baths.  DS finds them annoying.  We generally use something mild like California Baby bubble bath or others that are for sensitive skin because both of my kids tend to react to things like that (lotions, etc.).

  • I think the only concern would be the same as oversoaping - dry skin.  But if that's not an issue for your child, I can't see that it would be much of a problem.  I remember loving bubble baths as a kid, but I was probably older, if I have memories of it!  We've only done a bubble bath once, when my son pooped in the tub and got really upset about it.  DH moved him to our bathtub and gave him a bubble bath, as a way of calming him down, while I cleaned out his bathtub.

  • Just two days ago I gave LO her first one, she hated it at first but then once I showed her you can squish/play with the bubbles she somewhat calmed down. Today we tried again and she was fine. I may give them to her from time to time, but by no means all the time

  • I have given him bubble baths for probably six months and use very mild organic BB mixes.  I have found that those don't really bubble up much compared to a J&J or others.  He doesn't really seem to care either way about the bubbles (what little there are)

  • Definitely check with your pedi, but with my older DD I was told NOT to give her bubble baths except on a rare occasion due to the fact that the bubbles can cause yeast infections. I don't know if there is a specific ingredient that does that or what, but I didn't give her bubble baths and I don't for DD2 either for this reason.

  • I never heard that I shouldn't give bubble baths.  DS was in a phase where he hated baths, wouldn't sit down and would try to jump out.  I bought bubble bath and now he loves them! He asks for a bath/ bubbles every night.

  • Yes, we were told bubble baths are not good also do to yeast infections.

  • I'd heard the yeast infection thing too but honestly my kids have both had lots of bubble baths and no yeast infections.  I think the favorite kind I had was the Yes to Baby Carrots one.  We also use the color tabs for my older son and he likes those.  We just turn on the shower and rinse them off after the bath anyway (and rinse the tub).

  • I've been doing bubble baths since we switched to the actual tub around 7 months... I didn't know there were any issues. I've never had an issue and the bubbles are usually gone by the time we get out.

My pedi asked us if we were doing bubble baths when DD was in for a UTI.  Per Pedi bubble baths can cause yeast infections, UTIs,  etc as it changes the ph balance in women.  Even my OBGYN told me not to take bubble baths.
This!! I remember bubble baths when I was a kid causing me to have pain when I urinated the next day or two...even if you don't end up with a yeast infection or UTI the soap can irritate your system. No bubble baths for me or DD.
  • My lil guy has always been in the big tub since his cord fell off.. first on a sponge, then on a folded towel when he outgrew that.. next came a bath seat for a few months and after that he was in the big tub with a rubber mat. Now he mostly has showers; either with one of us, or alone with one of us beside the tub because he was getting too eager to stand in the tub and our bathroom looked like a tidal wave hit it lol.  Switching to showers has been awesome for him, this kid would take 8 baths a day if he could.

He has always had bubbles..Aveeno or J&J in the water. Never had a problem with  it and now he showers and "puts on his own soap" ( points bottle at belly with cap closed) and rubs his lil belly.

I have a true water baby.. baths, pools, puddles.. he don't care .. he  loves water

40 days old..and lovin his baths
