Once again I am entirely too nice.
Our friends went out of town for the weekend and asked if we could watch their dog. We agreed because we've known the pup since they brought him home in April and he gets along well with our dogs. He's an 8 month old pitbull/golden retriever mix who weighs about 60lbs and isn't neutered (spelling?).
Um. What. The. Fuck. Over.
This dog is a spaz. I own a pitbull and have owned retrievers, so the energy level isn't the issue. My pitbull is 4 y/o and doesn't have an off button. The total lack of training is the issue. I tried to take into consideration that he's in a new environment with people he isn't use to... But. Wow.
I go to let him outside to go potty and he runs out the door. Thankfully he does come when called, but he's cowering and peeing the whole time he does. I hook him on the cable. Go back out 10 minutes later to get him and he jumps on me, scratches the shit out of my arms, doesn't listen to a firm "DOWN" or to me redirecting his jumps with me knee/body. He slips his collar. He doesn't run off, but rather than letting me put his collar back on to lead him into the house, he rolls over on his back and pees all over AGAIN. I ask him to "sit" and try to get him to sit. He grips my arm with him legs and pees some more... Uh really?
Get him into the house and he's just pacing and panting and going all over. I realize a lot of this is anxiety (new place and new people). But he acts like this at home too and they think its fine. He's having quiet time in his crate right now. Just that one scenario has me exhausted.
I think this weekend is going to be a training opportunity... that will be wasted once he goes back home. Thankfully my dogs aren't being affected by his behavior.
Moral of the story. Train and say/neuter your pets! Especially your big dogs!

Re: fix and train your dogs people!
Sad part is, he's smart. He caught on quick to "out of the kitchen" and waited patiently for me to call him to come eat (I make my dogs stay out of the kitchen when preparing their meals, and call them one at a time to come eat)...
I might try taking him for a walk tomorrow to get some energy out and see f that helps.

He seems kind of confused as to why he isn't getting attention for DEMANDING it (leaning against me, jumping, pawing at me, invading my space, licking me). He's learning that he can lay down on the floor or in his crate and that its ok to not constantly be ttouching me or one of my dogs. My dogs have, thankfully been patient with his crazy puppy behavior. My pitbull (a spayed female) has also been good about ignoring his annoying unneutured male behavior towards her. Its going to be a long weekend.
