Monitor in LO's room - how long do you plan to keep it?

I posted the gate question, thanks for all the feedback. Another thing though, last night as DH and I were laying down I switched on the baby monitor as usual. DH asked me how long would we use it for, like until how old? Got me thinking, I have no clue! I would say till she's 18 haha! But honestly, do you still use one and when do you plan to NOT use it anymore? I just can't see turning it off anytime soon.

I have not used a monitor for over year and a half. She is now 2.8 and we stopped at 1 year old. She sleeps thru the night I do not see why you will need a monitor. I do check on her several times a night.

DD is 3.5 and we still have a monitor in her room. We don't use it at night; I really only turn it on when it's naptime because she's starting to phase out her nap, and I want to see if she's sleeping or playing.

I still use mine for the time being. I don't know when I'll stop (DS is almost 3). I like being able to see if he's sleeping or playing at naptime and during the night if he wakes and makes noise I like being able to see if he's actually awake or is putting himself back to sleep.

I can see us using the monitor for another year or more.

We stopped using ours at 4 months. DS started STTN at 7 weeks, so when I went back to work at 4 months I shut it down.

DD is nearly 3.5yrs and we still use it (at night, as she no longer naps). Why?

1) She doesn't sleep through the night. She'll wake up to pee, or from a dream, or a stuffy nose, etc. and want me back in there (and I'm ok with that - we've always coslept).

2) She doesn't fall asleep well on her own. A two-way monitor helps her feel a little better about going to sleep without us in the room.

3) When she does get up in the morning (or for MOTN peeing), she generally won't get out of bed herself.

We stopped a long time ago.....but for now he is sharing a room with his 3 month old sister, so it's there again. We will likely abandon it around 12 months for DD...we keep doors open.

we stopped a couple months ago. She wakes up on her own in the morning now and entertains herself for a bit before we wake up.

I never had a monitor in DD's room. I have one in DS's room, but only turn in on when he's napping and we're outside.

Wow! I didn't realize I was in the minority here too. I think I might be overly cautious. My DD sleeps through the night too, but I am just nervous if she DID wake for any reason we wouldn't be able to hear her. My house isn't that big, and we are all on the same floor, so maybe I would. Sounds to me like I need to put up the gate and lose the monitor and let her be the big girl she is.

We use one for DS because es on the other side of the house with the door shut and I can't hear him at night. He won't get out of his bed so he says mama or dada until someone comes to get him in the morning. DD is obsessed with the pack and play in our room so no need to have a monitor for her. I had to laugh though because I had an old boss who was telling the story of her son and his cousin talking in the bedroom during a sleepover and how she listened in to the whole conversation and had to "have a talk" with him later. He was 10 years old!!!! We asked how she heard and she said the bay monitor and she wasn't removing it and he knew it was there, of geez!

We still have one in the girls' room, they are 2 and 3.5. I only turn it on when I am sleeping because so far DD2 can't open doors and DD1 doesn't wake fully to realize she can get up and come get us if she needs something. She's almost always still half asleep when she calls out for me. Since I'm not a light sleeper I wouldn't hear them without the monitor. We'll stop using it when they are both capable and willing to come in our room and get us if they need us.

We still have a monitor. The way our house is---even though her room is "closest" to our room--it is still far and we wouldn't hear her at all in the middle of the night. She is still in a crib. We don't usually have it when we are awake, but in the overnight yes. We also sleep with all doors closed, so we really can't hear her.

Probably when she is in a bed and is able to come and get us.

DD1 is almost 2.5 and still in her crib. I can't here hear from my room. I will keep it in her room until she is in a big bed and confident she can come get me if she needs me.

As you can see in my ticker DD is 4 and we still have the camera in her room. I love having it in there still because many nights I've woken to her crying and watched on the monitor as she threw up in bed. Her room is next to ours and I still have that fear that I won't hear her so having the monitor is peace of mind for me. I may keep it there until she asks for it to be removed.

We haven't had a monitor in DD1s room since she moved into her big girl room/bed just before DD2 was born. She was almost 2. We still have one in DD2s room, but I only turn it on during nap time and in the morning when I wake up (she's almost 2). She often plays quietly in her crib when she wakes up, and I wouldn't even know she was awake if I didn't turn on the monitor. If she cries during the night I hear her without the monitor, and always have. When we move her to a big girl bed, we will probably get rid of the monitor. At that point she'll be able to get up and find us when she wakes.

We stopped using it at 15 months when we moved into our house. It's a cape so the upstairs isn't spread out at all so we definitely hear him if he calls out. We have the Angelcare with DS2 now and I can't remember when we switched from that to a regular monitor the first time.

We still use it, as we are still dealing with sleep issues, and we can't hear her from our room unless she is screaming. I'll be using it for quite a while. Even when we don't *need* it, I'll probably still use it to check on her.

We haven't used it at all for 2-3 months. Before that we used it occasionally if we were in the basement or something and when we first moved her into a big bed to make sure she wasn't getting up and fooling around. Even then we didn't have it on when we were in bed, only when we were up and away from the bedrooms. I haven't used it when we were in bed since she was 1 probably. I don't need to listen to her snore all night, lol!

We probably don't need it anymore, but we still use it too. I have it scanning between the two rooms. We'll have to keep it up once we transistion to nighttime potty training so I can hear him get up/wake up. He doesn't start making noise I hear anywhere for a while.

LO is almost 3 1/2 and the monitor is still set up in his room. I don't use it at night, but I use it if I got downstairs to run on the treadmill or outside while he is napping.

We have a sound-only monitor and we've only ever used it for naps, so we can hear him waking up from downstairs. And we do still use it for that. At night, our room is right next to his.

We still use ours when they are playing in their room. That way I can fold clothes in mine and hear the mess being made in theirs.

DS is 27 months and we still use it. We just transitioned him to a toddler bed and it has been really helpful since he can get himself up and move around the room (we've gated his room door though so at least he can't leave the room). He also isn't the world's best sleeper (often wakes 1-2 times a night for random reasons) so the monitor helps.

But, baby #2 is on the way in December and I really don't feel like buying another monitor sooooo...we might just switch it out of his room when the baby comes.
