Happiest Baby on the Block?

Last night I went to a free Babies R Us class called "Happiest Baby on the Block" where they taught us Harvey Karp's methods for calming a fussy baby. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed when I watched the DVD at how quickly his methods worked to soothe the babies. I'm wondering if any second(+) time moms have used any of his methods and how they worked out for you? I'm willing to give the methods a shot and see if it works for us, but I was just curious to see any any of you have tried.

Re: Happiest Baby on the Block?

  • I liked this one, and I also really liked the no-cry sleep solution.

  • I swear by these techniques. They worked 100% w my dds and I plan to do them again w this ds.
  • I learned them, and used them a bit... It was great as a starting off point- I liked watching the dvd more than reading the book because it helps to actually see how he does it.  That said, they got tweaked a bit as I learned my baby and she learned me and we figured out what worked for us.
  • Yes! They especially helped soothe DS when he was just a newborn. I would recommend to anyone to ignore the cheesy name and rent the DVD on Netflix.
  • I had never heard of this until joining the board, but am interested in checking it out!

  • It worked beautifully for us and even at 20 months my son can still be jiggled to sleep while being shushed (as we found out on our last flight when he was freaking out and we were out of ideas -- I could not believe it worked).

  • I'm so happy with all the positive feedback. Now I feel like I'll be a little more prepared for my little guy.

I saw they have this DVD for sale on amazon, so  I slapped it on my registry. I wish we still had netflix, renting it would be better.

  • It does help, if not completely, at least somewhat. I tried the techniques on DD and it definitely helped to calm her at times. She was pretty fussy in the beginning. It did get a lot better by 3 months though. I need to pull out the DVD for a refresher!

  • It helped with DS1 but he also had MSPI and reflux so before those were treated it didn't help much. When used in conjunction with treatment it HBOTB helped immensely
  • Yes! I've shamelessly plugged this book/technique on TB several times.

It worked like magic for us, and Dr. Karp has continued to be my number one go-to for parenting advice (he also wrote a book called Happiest Toddler on the Block). He's a genuis.

  • I'm a FTM as well but I've heard nothing but great things about this book/video! We watched the video a while ago and were super impressed and looking forward to trying it.
