Re: FFFC

  • G plays by herself. Almost her entire wake time. She will bring me a book from time to time. I take advantage of it and do laundry or cook or whatever. I feel guilty I am not spending time with her. But it is just so nice to have this stage of independence where she does not need my constant attention.

After her party though, I do want to buckle down and really spend some quality 1 on 1 with her.

  • FFFC. My Dr wants me to try weaning off Celexa. she told me to cut my 20s in half last week. I haven't. But I took the last one yesterday and have a RX for 10s so I guess I'm weaning today. I'm nervous.

Why does the doc want you to wean.  Did you mention that you're nervous/don't feel ready?  I remember going on Lexapro the first time that we tried to wean at the 6 month mark to see if I was having situational depression or if it was ongoing.  I found it to be (more likely) a lifelong med.  Just helps me manage my anxiety and irritability.  Good luck, but don't hesitate to request staying with your current dosage if you feel like you need it.  Celexa is not addictive and it helps the biochemical balance.

And, yes, Flexiril please.  All the drugs.  On all the open forums.

I'm right there with you. DH say I don't pay enough attention, but she doesn't want to play with me! I get on the floor with her and she plays with me for 5 minutes and then she's off to the next thing. I feel like once she's able to do crafts and games she'll be more interactive but I know I need to make more of an effort now, too!

  • To follow up my other confession. If I am staying in a hotel overnight I can't party hard because I would rather get a good night of sleep than lay there with the spins. If I am home with the girls I can't party hard because I have to get up early.

    I never party anymore.

I hear this.  I did manage to get tipsy about a month ago while we were camping with friends, but that's because I made DH the designated stay sober for the kid person.

My one night away from DD thus far was for a bachelorette party.  I had a couple glasses of wine with dinner, then a glass at our first bar stop, then stopped, because I was driving everyone home.  We got home late.  So I got neither awesome full night of sleep nor fun drunkyness.

I know. She's been on it for 8 days and they want her on it for 10. I know some people treat ear infections with garlic oil instead of antibiotics, but I don't know if it's too late because we already started the drugs.
I haven't read other responses yet, but I've always heard if you don't finish an antibiotic you're at risk for contracting C Diff (which is very dangerous in young children), because of the imbalance of good and bad bacteria in your body. I'm not totally sure details and I could be completely off....

Because they are happy. This may just be stemming from having two sick, needy, clingy, whiny children for the past two weeks. I wish they would play by themselves. Or with each other.

This was our only free weekend, and then it turned out that it wasn't even 'free' because H forgot the date and is having a sale at the dealership on Sunday from 11-4.  Her party starts at 4.  He did the same thing last year on my due date.  Asshat.

This is true! I was a very independent kid and I feel like it translated well into my teen and young adult years. I would hate to take too much away from her independence.

It's also a public health thing--when you don't kill all the bacteria, those who were exposed to the antibiotic and didn't die off are stronger (way oversimplifying here, I know).  Basically, it breeds super-bacteria.  If it's impossible to finish and you truly can't, that's one thing...but most people don't finish because "oh, I felt better" or they're lazy asshats.

  • I manage the social media pages for H's work.  This morning, some guy posted that you should never buy a used car from H, basically saying that he was ripped off, and after you buy the car, 'they don't due what they say they are going to due'.  It took everything in me not to respond simply with 'You're a fucking idiot.'

H had no record of him, or anyone with his last name ever purchasing a car from the dealership, so there was nothing to really diffuse the situation, so I just deleted the post.  He then posted 'Where did my post go?' and sent me a PM.  I need to refill my klonopin, but Hannah fought her nap for early an hour this morning, and just went down.  If I don't take a happy pill soon, I may make this guy cry.

Honestly?  I'd leave any more of his moronic posts up and respond cheerfully with "Oh gosh, we have no record of you--can you help me out?" and let him sink himself.  Mostly because it could be fun to watch.  And he might end up trashing a competitor for you when he realizes your H's dealership isn't the one he went to and that could be fun, too.

  • @BPer, I had a Mom call me bright and early this morning bitching me out because her son got a $1300 bill and never started school, she called me August 21 at 243pm and I told her it would be fine because it was before school started.  We were on the phone for over 20 minutes.  Couldn't find any record of him even being enrolled in any classes, so I asked her to scan me the bill.

The idiot was calling the WRONG SCHOOL.  How do you do that?!  Perhaps your rando is the DH of my rando. :-)

At this stage, independent play is great.  It will help them as they get older, and they'll go through phases of needing more/less attention.  As long as you're giving your child things to play with, then I see no issues with letting them alone while you get stuff done.  They're learning by every little thing they do/see/touch/eat at this stage, that it's growing their mind whether you're sitting down with them or not.

Now, if you let your kid watch TV 8 hours a day and did nothing to interact with them, that's a different story.  (That's not a knock on letting kids watch TV - I'm not anti-TV).

He and his brother and cousin inherited the family business.  They've had dealerships locally for like 50+ years, Honda, Hyundai, Lincoln, Acura, Dodge (until the whole bailout thing, my ILs blame Obama)  Is he thinking of starting a used car lot, or buying a franchise?  Used cars have the highest gross, so the most profit, and you don't have to deal with franchise politics.

Assholes.  We get some crazies.  Like the woman who bought a used car (which commonly have scratches), knowing that it had scratches, and then wanted the dealership to replace her front bumper when she rear-ended someone, because it had scratches when she bought it.  When they nicely told her to GTFO, she started crying because she couldn't afford to replace it because she was on disability.  Her disability managed to pay for 'rims', ridiculous tints, and a bunch of after market garbage though.

  • Maybe that's another FFFC:  I don't see the appeal of any extra "bling" on your car.  My neighbor down the road has spinning rims.  WTF?  Dude, you live in the suburbs and our neighborhood is mini van central.  I spend over $300 a month on gas just to get to and from work.  I can't see shoving extra money into my car beyond maintenance to make it look more badass.  I drive a Toyota.  It's very far from being BA.

He wants to get his dealer license and start his own used car lot. I'm just apprehensive because we don't have a ton of capital and not much room for error. He's very good and turning cars around for profit, I'm just frugal and cautious!

  • I see absolutely nothing wrong with a child playing nicely by themselves, if the parent is still nearby and available to them. I consider that normal and don't see how it would negatively affect a child in any way. And like Redneckmama said, I do set aside chunks of quality time where I'm only focusing on playing with him. It works better for me to get my chores done while he's playing, and then I'm free to give him my undivided attention, as opposed to constantly multitasking.

My confession: I have never experienced "mommy guilt". I completely understand the concept and I know it's a very strong feeling for a lot of mothers, but I've never gotten that wave of guilt from anything I've chosen to do. Formula, daycare, CIO, store-bought baby food, TV watching, etc.  Ironically though, sometimes I feel a bit guilty that I never feel guilty.

  • FFFC- I teach 4th grade and have been for 12 years. Lately, when people ask my opinion on becoming a teacher, 100% of the time I try to convince them to do something else with their life. Teaching as a profession has gone so downhill, and I am hoping to do something else, like SAH, in the next few years. The only reason why I am tolerating it this year and getting by with all of the paperwork and extra bullshit is the fact that I have a classroom para. Unfortunately, the para is a temporary gig while we are figuring out if a particular student needs an IEP or not.
FWIW-I am currently NOT teaching today, I have a personal day. We are on the way to Indiana for my cousin's wedding. Keep the FFFC comin'. It's keeping me entertained on our drive :)

  • @mrskipper  Used car lots can be really profitable, especially if they offer service too.  H is in charge of all used cars, and last month, his gross profit was $144k, where the new car franchises were roughly half that, even if they sold more cars.

Usually, money from service covers the operating expenses of a dealership, and then any money from sales is 100% profit.  My family has owned dealerships here also for even longer than H's, so I promise that I'm not just talking out of my ass. :)

Cars are a good business, people always need cars.

  • Since the topic of money obviously came up yesterday, plus doing my own financial planning, it got me thinking about how much I actually spend on baby-related things, and what the bare minimum cost of adding a second child might be.

DH and I added up the cost of *bare essentials* for Penny's first year of life. We agreed that the list included hospital fees (delivery and ER visits, including a nebulizer for RSV), pump, bottles, diapers, wipes (since we have to send these to daycare), nine months of daycare, and a minimal allotment for food (I think $50 per month for six months of solid food). All told, the total came to about $12,000.

We didn't include things we were given (crib, swings, car seat and stroller, etc), clothes (since we could have survived on gifts and hand me downs), and luxuries like activities, toys, and everything else I buy her that we could do without if we had to.

Honestly, I was shocked it was so high - although DC is a huge chunk of that, so I suppose I shouldn't have been. It was definitely birth control.

    I never party anymore.

A couple of weekends ago, I had MY cousin's bachelorette party in Chicago. We went to a wine tasting and a rooftop bar overlooking the city. I was on the verge of being tipsy-so feeling relaxed and happy. We were going to head to another bar when my sister and other cousin were like, let's go back to the hotel. Blah. I was ready to push through for another drink. Granted my sister is 13w PG and it was getting late. But all 3 of is were kid-free and we were all dressed up.

A girl I went to high school with delivered her baby yesterday morning at 21 weeks with no heart beat.  She posted on Facebook about it, and everyone is commenting with T&Ps.  One girl just told her that 'Everything happens for a reason', and that 'it was part of God's plan'.  If someone said that to me following a loss, I wish that I could delete that comment before she read it.

  • I hate chrome on cars. Hate it. Chrome rims, chrome mirrors, chrome door accents. Blah. So ugly.

Not one of our vehicles is stock. Both tucks have a lift. Jeep has bigger tires until we can lift it. Don't know how a lift and me getting kids into the back seat will work. I want 35's and rock stars. I may need to install a hoist system for getting my kids into the back seat. Or a ladder.

I miss my old jeep terribly. My jeep is so slow! Doesn't have a nice sounding exhaust. Blah to a mommified jeep.

People that bring their wrangler to the shop and have them install a lift, snorkel, winch system to drive it on a dirt road through a stream are ridiculous.

I also put people who drive wranglers but do not wave on my post it. It is known their is a Jeep wave that comes a long with driving a wrangler. What, do you think all these random people who happen to all just be driving a wrangler are waving at you? If you know and don't wave, you are on my post it twice.

I will have my period for the party. Fantastic! I anticipate crying all day. People bringing up the dog. The baby turning 1. The stress of the party. I want to hide. I want to set it up. Take pictures. Then leave.

I am really bitter today. Does it show?
