Step one done

Ok maybe making the baby was step one but to help with getting the house ready I've broken it down to three steps.

First was to find space and move the furniture out of the room we will use for the nursery. This is now complete! I didn't expect to do it today or for H to be so willing to help when he got home from work but its done ( and other rooms are more cramped now lol)

Next step- paint
Last step- fill up with baby furniture

Am I doing this to soon? I'll be 15 weeks monday

Re: Step one done

  • With DS we purchased and set up the crib at 12 weeks (it was way on sale :) ). DH has already brought it up and put it together for these little ones so you're not alone!

  • Nope! I was just working on cleaning out our spare bedroom (aka storage closet). We are painting this weekend when I'll be turning 17 weeks.
With a 2 year old and fall activities and holidays I need to get stuff done when I can.

  • Thanks ladies- I feel better now
  • We've done the same thing you have. Room is clear. Next step is paint the crib and assemble. That's the only furnishing we have right now lol
  • I think its better to start early. Don't be like me and try to assemble a crib the day before your c-section. It didnt work out so well, lol

  • DH and I have some vacation time in October so I'm having a little painting party and then we'll go and buy the furniture. I think it'd be easier now for us to get that done especially since I've got more energy. We're going to buy the closet (including all the organization inside of it) and crib at Ikea so having to transport the items before the snow falls seems a lot easier.

  • We are moving to a new apartment next week - the landlord asked us what color we wanted the baby's room!  So I'm very glad they are taking care of step 1 for us :-)  We are planning a big ikea trip very soon to fill it up with a crib, dresser, etc.  I think it'll feel good to have the big things done, and then we can just do little decorating things (the fun stuff) later on.

  • We've decided not to paint, but I'm thinking about stenciling or decals. Crib and bassinet are bought and assembled. Baby's room is small so I think we're only getting a dresser and changing table, but I'm holding out for an armoire so we can have a place to hang some of baby's stuff since I am using the (only) closet. We'll see. I know a lot of women say they don't use a changing table, but I'm 6 feet tall, I would rather change the baby standing up. Like PP have said, better to do it now when we have the energy in 2nd tri.

  • Our baby room has everything out if it except a bed for and is already painted! We knew exactly what we wanted and did it shortly after our first ultrasound at 6 1/2 weeks! That way it was done before I went back to work!

  • DH is a teacher so he had the whole summer off, I didn't even realize he had cleared out a whole room until it was done and he surprised me! It was nice not having to direct him but he did just put everything in the basement and most of it has to come back up lol. Sweet of him to do it though!
  • I don't think it's too soon! All of our stuff is 4 hrs away from us since I'm using my nieces and other hand me downs so when we do go home we bring something with in my not so large car! We have brought the bassinet and the crib so instead if these things laying around we put then up and they are ready. Also my mil has a few things in her basement of mine so when she came down about 3 weeks ago she brought stuff as well. We have pretty much the whole spare room ready for a baby! Just have to find somewhere to put my treadmill :/
I think it will end up in my bathroom! (Luckily it's a big bathroom with one of those huge tubs we use for storage, so it can go I front of it)
