week six still negative home test

Hello ladies,
I have done 3 home tests and so far all negative.  Yet I seem to have symptoms:heartburn(like never before!), tender breasts, tired(exhausted even after a good night of sleep), moodiness. wondering if my body is just not producing enough of the hcg hormone yet? I would be right around 6 weeks past first day of last period, but I did have some bleeding(which I though was implantation bleeding earlier than period this month.) Midwife thought I still could be pregnant.anyone else experience this. thoughts?

  • Wait, you think you might be pregnant based on symptoms but have three negative tests?  Um, okay.

PMS symptoms are the same as early pregnancy symptoms.  You may have ovulated late.  I would test again first thing in the morning.  If you go for 60 days without a positive test or your period, call the doctor.

    This.

You're only 6 weeks if you ovulated on CD14. Many women don't. If you're pregnant, it could be too early to tell. I'm kind of side-eyeing your midwife for not explaining this to you.

  • If I had to guess I would say you may not be pregnant, or you are not 6weeks. If you have symptoms, they could be from Pms, but would mean you have the hormone needed to turn a test positive. Ask your midwife to run a blood test, and keep trying :)

  • Didn't you post on first tri?

Go to the doctor and ask for a beta blood test. This will tell you for sure. And if you aren't pregnant--which you most likely are not--maybe they can do some tests to figure out what is going on.

Test once a week until you get your period. If you get neither positive test or period after 60 days, call your doctor.

  • Before everyone jumps to the conclusion that she's not pregnant, we don't know her cycle, we don't know her medical history and we don't know her body. The average woman in this case probably would not be pregnant at this point, but you cannot know for sure until either AF comes, or you take a blood test (or have a BFP on a HPT).
My fingers are crossed for you, but I would suggest just going and getting bloodwork done so you know for sure and don't miss the window for trying again this month if your symptoms really happen to be Ov related.
  • Try a different brand of test, maybe you got some fluke bad batch. If you are pg enough for symptoms, you should be able to pop a positive on a pee test. If it still is negative, you aren't pg.

    @yvanehtnioj -  I miss them too!!!

OP: This is great advice. Have you been charting and temping?  If not, then there is no way to know if you have even ovulated yet.  Your cycle is normal until it's not.  You could have ovulated later than "normal" or be having a longer cycle.

Test again each week and if you go 60 days without getting a positive test than call your doctor.  I am very puzzled as to how your midwife thinks you are pregnant just because you have gone 6 weeks since your last period. There are plenty of women on the TTGP board who cycles well over 50 days long. I agree with @Miggg that you should consider finding a new midwife.

And @jschwind22 that goodness I turned a test! I couldn't imagine having quads and I think my DH would have had a heart attack! lol

  • On another note, my mother couldn't get a positive HPT when she was pregnant with me until she was 7mos pregnant....I'm sure the tests weren't as good back then, but there's always exceptions to every rule I suppose.

    FFS.

Some people don't understand how HPTs work.  If there is hormone over  20mls, you turn a positive.  If you're six weeks and you don't have more than 20 mls of HCG....well you're not pregnant.

    You aren't pregnant.

And I don't believe anyone who says they never got a positive pregnancy test, even when they were confirmed x,y,z months pregnant.  Learn how to pee on a stick.  There is actually no hormonal disorder that would mask pregnancy hormones like that, and if there was and you had it, you wouldn't be able to get pregnant.

  • Why do these people post this kind if thing and never come back to play. Well OP, we are waiting. Inquiring minds would like to know how one KNOWS they are KU when one has not yet turned a test?

I also don't understand how/why people who supposedly couldn't turn a test until they were 35 weeks, would know that. Who is peeing on effing sticks at 35 weeks?!?

  • this reminds me of someone who popped onto TTGP (I think) last month saying she told her DH she was pregnant before she'd actually peed on a stick, because she was like a day late or something.  I don't get it.  If I was "late" (which you can't know if you're not charting) but getting negative tests, I'd never assume that meant I was pregnant.  I'd be calling my doctor and asking what they wanted me to do, but call myself pregnant?  no.

  • Honestly, I have to say I didn't read all of the comments so someone probably said what I'm about to. I am 7weeks today and last week my test finally read positive so I was almost 6weeks when I finally produced enough hcg to make the test positive. You very well may be pregnant. I didn't think mine would be positive and I was shocked when I saw that line!

Have you had your EDD confirmed with an ultrasound?  You might have ovulated way later than you thought.

  • @ABColeslaw was that meant for me? I am not allowed to see the dr until 8weeks. I am extremely regular and know when I ovulate. I had stopped tracking right before getting pregnant, but was like clockwork with my ovulation. Of course, I could get in there and find out I'm further or not as far along, but most likely I am 7 weeks. My mom was the same way and a good friend of mine didn't get a positive test until almost week 7 with her last pregnancy. It's weird, but happens.

Honestly though, if you were 7 weeks you would have been turning pee tests for over a week now in the very least, probably before that.  You can be regular sam and have an off month.  My money is on that.  But when you get in there and have a confirmed date, please do update.  I'm interested in seeing if your dates match up.  Also in what you doctor has to say about the pee sticks.

  • A baby has a heartbeat at 6 weeks. There is no way you're 6weeks pregnant and not turning a test positive. HPTs are as sensitive as doctors office tests now (per my doctor).
  • Yup. Tests have been positive since sept 11th. Last period August 1st.Wasn't planning on asking about pee sticks, but if I am 7weeks like the drs office told me then I too am curious about it. Like I said, I know people who are negative for weeks into their pregnancy and are indeed pregnant. You are right in most cases. It would be weird if the first month I didn't track ovulation I went off cycle, but it happens. Now you have me wondering. Wish this appt was sooner. Ugh!

It's like "opposite land"... how many times do you need to pee on a stick before you recognize you are not pregnant. If it has been 6 weeks, and still negative, you are not pregnant. Your midwife is clearly just waiting for AF to start... otherwise, if she thought you were PG, she would've/should've sent you to an OB for betas (hcg levels).

I'm sorry, but I think this is terrible advice. Get blood work based on a late period and three negative test? OP save your money. It's best to assume, at this point, that you ovulated later than you think, not that you are a special unicorn who is pregnant with no hcg.

  • To the people blowing unicorn farts up her ass with your "You could totally be pregnant!!!" and "Go get a blood test even though you can't turn a pee stick!!!" Just stop. Stop with the puppies and rainbows and unicorn farts. TTGP grads know all about these people who have phantom symptoms and are convincing themselves that they're pregnant because they WANT to be. All you're really doing is making it worse.

Negative test = Not pregnant .... Sorry OP. Fire that midwife and better luck next cycle.

  • This is supposed to be a support system on here and I am very taken back by the fact that there are so many people that bluntly are insulting others. I gave my advice because it is currently happening to me. I was very nice to the person who said I may not be as far along as I think I am, but it is very possible I am. It is also possible that i am a week less. i took here advice into consideration. My test did not say positive until 11days after my missed period. It was negative before when I was two days late and then again at a week late.
Honestly, this person that asked the question could be only hoping to be pregnant and really isn't because most times, yes, negative is negative. In my case, it wasn't. I just can't believe that some of you are bashing my answer simply because you are different. We are supposed to be here to help each other with honest answers and mine is honest. Research it. It happens. I don't want to give false hope, but then I would be lying if I said it didn't happen. I know my body very well. Let's try to be nice to other people on here!

Also, I DO agree that this midwife seems interesting. Shouldn't she have sent get for bloodwork or something?!! I'm confused by the "you might be pregnant."

What happened to the girl who asked the question?
