First IUI in the AM! *Update*

Girls, I am kind of freaking out! This has been such a long process. We started testing last Jan. and we're just now getting to the action stage, it's crazy. The last couple weeks, I keep thinking- I wish I could just go get it over with, now that it's tomorrow AM, I am having crazy anxiety, just trying to stay positive, but also realistic- my RE told me it's only a 10% success rate :(

Please share your IUI experiences with me! I know H has to drop a sample at 7am, I have to go in 8ish, for U/S, then IUI is close to 9am, but I have no idea what actually happens for the IUI? Do they just stick a catheter up there and hope for the best? Will I be asked to lay there for a few minutes? Do you think it's crazy that I'm thinking about skipping my workout for tomorrow? If the sperms are gonna get there, they should be able to get there even if I'm working out, right? LOL

Re: First IUI in the AM! *Update*

  • HOLY COW! I was just thinking about you this morning!  YAY!! (No experience with IUI) I wanted to wish you luck!

  • Oh and I would probably skip the work out and just go home and relax!

  • Loading the player...
  • For my IUIs DH gave them a sample, they "washed" it and I laid on a table and a the nurse (RE didn't even do the procedure) put a catheter up my hooha and inserted the sperm (only 3 million post wash) and then I laid there on the table for like ten mins and left.

Dr told me business as usual.

However, (although I wasn't able to do this at the time) I would totally take it easy the day of and 2WW.

Sadly, my IUIs failed (but DH's sample was really low) and I never did our last (3rd) IUI.

And your odds sound about what they quoted me (10-15%)

I THINK it is closer to 20% with Injectables.

Honestly, the whole expirence felt like a pap-smear. You might cramp a little.

    Good LUCK!!!!!

  • I'm lurking and hope you don't mind me chiming in with my experience :)

DH dropped off his sample within the hour of the procedure, they washed it, and then called me in for the initial ultrasound. RE checked my ovaries to make sure the follicles had not ovulated yet. Then she inserted the speculum (sp?) like a pap smear, and like @KC1212 said, inserted the catheter and injected me. For my first IUI, I felt a small pinch, nothing painful, and within 30 seconds the whole thing was over. She had me lay for 10 minutes afterwards. For my second IUI, I felt absolutely nothing, and funny thing, DH wasn't even there. He had an interview at work and couldn't miss it, so RE and I chatted it up for 20 minutes after the procedure, and poof, that's the IUI that got me pregnant - without my husband there! (sad!) After my 2nd IUI, though, I noticed some pretty strong cramping (I think it was ovulation pains) and some discharge (sorry TMI), so I freaked, but RE said it was normal.
RE said I could go back to my normal routine, but I would skip a workout, maybe just walk or something light.
I'm super excited for you and praying that this is your lucky cycle!

  • Mrs Castillo Sure looks like it! Great minds? I have been thinking about you all morning, and didn't see anything when I logged in at work.  I can't stop smiling, I am so excited for you.  Now to go home and relax?? Or do you have other plans?

  • Yea I'm gonna chill out today! I'm just lounging on the couch now. I was so anxious last night I hardly slept at all, so I'll probably try to take a nap when DD goes down at 2.

I'm definitely gonna skip my work out for today LOL.

Thank you so much for thinking of me <3

  • :)  Now we just have to keep you sane through this 2WW!

  • Just wanted to update for those who are wondering-

Everything went amazingly well! I have 2 big juicy eggs (20 + 25) and H dropped off a stellar 80mil / 80% sample! The Dr. was very confident about the whole thing, and I'm feeling positive and hopeful.

For those of you waiting for an IUI- it was totally uneventful and painless. The procedure took around 2 minutes, and she did ask that I lay there for at least 5 mins. NBD! Easy peasy!

Thank you all SO MUCH for the positive thoughts! I really appreciate all of you :)
    Yay!! FX for you guys!!
  • Happy it went well! FX to you!
