Hello all,
I am new here, but used to come in about a year ago+ during my 1st IVF. We have been on a break for a year since it did not work. We have been TTC for 3 years now, have done 3 rounds of clomid + IUI and 1 IVF cycle. "Unexplained infertility" is how to describe us, other than myself being hypothyroid. After being mentally exhausted and completely in credit card debt from it all, we took a year off. Now that we are getting older and nervous that this may not happen for us....we met with a new Dr who we really have hope in. He suggested our next step be a Lap procedure, since it is covered by our insurance. He says my story sounds like I may have endo, but we don't know for sure. The thought of surgery for something I don't know I have honestly scares me. I keep putting it off because I just can't bring myself to do it. Our other option is to do a frozen transfer from what we have saved from the 1st IVF, which will cost us more debt. I guess the obvious choice is the Lap, and see if it happens naturally for us for a while after that, I'm just nervous.
I am here to ask for info on the Lap, if anyone has had it done....have you had success from it?? Recovery time? How bad is it? Did you end up doing IVF anyway afterwards? Any info would be very much appreciated! Thanks ladies!
Re: Next step for us...Lap or frozen cycle??
It is always hard to decide since there isn't ever a clear answer. I'd do the a lap/hyst just to get everything checked out. Like PP said, you'll likely still need to move forward with IVF. I moved forward with mine before starting any treatments not so much b/c of the history of it in my family, but because my insurance covered the procedure (IF treatments are OOP for me) and I wanted peace of mind before spending all the money on treatments.
Recovery time and any discomfort always depends on how much they remove and where. My problem was the swelling and discomfort urinating for a while. But it's not usually as bad as you fear - I kind of liked having the time off to relax
I took a week off, but worked from home on and off the last few days at home.
Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN
