So is this like a religious thing?

One of my friends just text me that they are unable to attend DS2 birthday party. NBD but her reason has me baffled (yes, I know she doesn't owe me a reason, she offered) She said they aren't coming because its a dinosaur theme and they "don't believe in dinosaurs." WTF does that even mean? Is a T-rex like Santa?

Omg... So annoying. I don't believe that Ariel is real, but I would never miss a party!
    LMFAO!!!
    =))

Agreed! I wouldn't miss a party over something like that. Mermaids. Transformers. Talking fish. come on now! SMH.
  • I grew up in a pretty strict Catholic family, and dinosaurs existed in my home.

  • I'm religious and I think it's ridiculous to not believe dinosaurs existed. Where the F are the bones from then, people?!  8-|

    Those are just rocks.

All the Christians I know, myself included, believe the bible talks about dinosaurs. That's weird.

    Wait what now.

I can't remember what they're called, but it talks about large animals that fit the same description in the old testament. It started with an L... I'll have to look it up when I have time.

  • Wait so I still want to know which religion doesn't believe in dinosaurs? What are they going to tell their kids when they are in school and have to learn about dinosaurs or go on a field trip to museum with dinosaur bones? This is so baffling to me!

  • I believe this belief comes from certain fundamentalist sects of Christianity. They generally homeshool and avoid any "corrupting" influences so they can adequately brainwash the next generation.

Ugh - yes - it's the same reason that DD's school celebrates Valentine's Day but won't celebrate Halloween, nor have ANY school dances including Prom, that's their religious beliefs, it is what it is...  It's a WTF sometimes, but sometimes you've just got to roll with people and their beliefs...  Remember the world was flat once too...

  • My kids attend Catholic school and they learn extensively about dinosaurs.  They even do an awesome project where each student picks a dinosaur and then they have to make that dinosaur in it's habitat in a shoebox.

We also celebrate Halloween at our school.

  • My dad once mentioned his sisters family believed that demons put dinosaur bones in the earth. Never heard it straight from them though.
  • But seriously, if it was unicorn themed, would she not come to that? I could understand even if it was Harry Potter, but that's just crazy.

Yeah, Lala, I guess that could make sense in someone's mind. But dinosaurs and Jesus aren't mutually exclusive. Ahh well.

  • I think that the issue this set of Christians have w/ dinos is that they think it's bunk science that "the man" has made up to somehow disprove the bible. Like some of them literally think scientists hid fake bones in the ground.

So, unicorns or other things might not bother them b/c those are mythological and everyone knows it. They think they are the ones who know the "truth" about dinosaurs.

Serious question, what possible reason would "scientists" have for hiding fake bones in the ground? To debunk religion, okay, but why would they want to debunk religion? Do they think scientists are really beelzebub or something?
  • My brother turned creationist when he married my SIL, they believe the earth is 6,000 years old (wha???) and still believe in dinosaurs/let my nephew play with them. It's definitely a religious thing, I just don't know which one.

    They're atheist?
So some people for no reason decided God wasn't real and to prove it they hid fake bones in the yard? And the religious people think they're the only ones who have spotted the flaw in this plan?

Well, you know that and I know that. I wasn't defending them by any means.

  • This is what my Lutheran pastor says:

"There were questions about Creation: about dinosaurs - they were created on day 6 so when Adam & Eve were created later on day 6 the dinosaurs were there with them. In a perfect world without sin, there was no death and no animals were a threat to mankind. Sin changed that, of course. God allowed the dinosaurs to become extinct sometime after the Flood. The skeletal remains of dinosaurs are in complete agreement with the biblical account of the Flood -- massive mud slides, burying God's creatures alive and preserving them for many years. It appears that the earth's atmosphere/climate changed after the Flood, thus the dinosaurs died off and even the lifespan of people quickly went down to about what it is today."

  • Well this blew up. They are not particularly close friends but I guess there were a few red flags that led me to believe they were a little odd but nothing like this. For example, they dont vax because a friend of a friend's kid "got weird" after the mmr shot. I tried to give them a chance but i honestly cannot take them seriously again. Also this thread is hilarious

  • I've heard of this, but not to the extent that they wouldn't go to a party. Hm. I'm fully Christian, but I believe God created the world in 7 days, (or "seasons," or "periods.") 5th day: God created animals. That fifth day could have easily seen the rise and fall of the dinosaurs before the earth ever got to the 6th day when human kind joined the inhabitants.
