Anyone out there with rheumatoid arthritis...?

Just wondering how many other mommas in J13 suffer from RA. I was diagnosed a little over 2 years ago and have been delaying making an appointment with my rheumatologist to get back on meds because I want to BF my LO was long as possible. BFing is going so well for us and I can't imagine stopping, but I'm starting to flare up more often. Some mornings are really tough. I know it's stupid - It's so much more important to be healthy and be able to pick her up and play with her. But I'm also so weary about drugs, and I worry weaning off of them when we TTC in the future.

@NKaeding: How are you doing? I don't think I ever saw an update to your flare up post - Hopefully it was just a fluke and you're doing better!

Anyone care to share their experience with RA meds? I was on a NSAID and plaquenil before getting pregnant, but don't plan to go back on plaquenil as it didn't do too much for me.

    Sorry you have RA.  I don't have RA, so this is probably a stupid question, but have you asked your rheumatologist if there are any different medications you can take while BFing than the ones you were originally on? Sometimes, there are certain medications that are originally created to treat one illness, but end up treating other symptoms.  Also, could you start pumping extra to build a stash to feed her after you get back on meds.  That way, she could still get breast milk longer!

    @citrusfamily - My RA started out as extreme fatigue and foot pain. It wasn't until the joints in my toes started swelling that I went to the dr.

     

    @NKaeding - Good to hear, I'm glad you're managing. Aleve is getting me by right now but I go back to work in a few weeks which I know is going to raise my stress level exponentially...just hoping that doesn't mean flare up time. Can't believe you've had it since you were 2 - what luck :(
