Is cramping a good sign?

I'm 5 weeks and I have been having period like cramps. No bleeding and not painful.
My friend told me it's probably RLP. I'm just wondering if its a good sign that my uterus is stretching if that means the baby is healthy and okay.

(Sorry if this is a weird question. I have first time pregnancy paranoia lol)

Re: Is cramping a good sign?

  • Cramping usually just means your uterus is stretching and growing. I cramped pretty consistently until about week 6, at which point your uterus has almost doubled in size.

So long as it's not severe, and it not accompanied by spotting/bleeding, you're fine. :)

  • @Rachelnicole927 thanks for posting this! I've been having cramping on and off, and today was the most I've had so far. It's my first pregnancy, so I have no idea what to expect, which makes everything a little scary.

  • Good to know. Its been a while since I've dealt with this stuff. Had my son ten years ago and don't remember most of it. I'm about 5 weeks and stared having some mild cramping. Mostly when I'm laying doing nothing.
  • I've been having cramping too but no spotting. My doc says it's normal to have mild cramping.

  • Cramping is normal but different than RLP. It's my understanding RLP is a quicker, sharper pain that happens when you make a sudden movement and stretch ligaments that are already stretched to the max.
  • Light cramping is normal. When I miscarried the type of cramping I experienced was just...different...and I knew I should be worried. But your uterus is growing and stretching so mild cramping with no bleeding is absolutely fine. RLP for me was always a sharper kind of pain by my hip bones...I've been getting some of that too.

  • I also cramped a lot until about 6 weeks.  I don't remember that with my first pregnancy, but it seems to have stopped now.  My doctor told me "it can be very normal".

  • Samesies! And first time for me too. As far as the RLP for those with experience, I'm only 5 weeks (estimated without a dr. visit yet). I was doing some light stretching yoga like moves and planks and felt some sharp twinges in my adominal area. I definitely stopped but wondering if this is the ligaments stretching like I've read about?
