Adoption

May I ask to see some profiles?I am so frustrated!!!!

I am having a hard time getting my profile together! My attorney will not allow us to send out any "networking" letters or advertise until our profile is ready. She is a stickler for detail, and is wonderful, but I am stuck in between getting ready for the Holidays and all that goes into making a profile!

I thought my brother, who is a professional videographer, had nice pictures of DH and I from when we vacationed with his family in April. DH and I actually took the trip partially to have them take some pictures, as we were in the early stages of planning for adoption. We planned on using what he and his wife shot for our profile. Last night, he e-mailed  pics that I TOOK while we were with them! He spent a lot of time making the pics into a photo gallery and posting them and when I realized that they were pics he downloaded off my camera, that I ALREADY had, I nearly cried! Apparantly, his wife, who is also a pro photographer, did not take as many shots as I thought she did and really has no pics for us to use at all! I am still not sure what the heck happened! I guess their was a miscommunication somewhere, and he feels bad about it. He lives about 12 hours from me and there is no chance we can do another trip anytime soon.

But now, I am really scraping the barrel for pics and will end up using older pics and some recent ones that I really don t love. I am not in a position right now to hire a photographer, but may have to do so after Christmas. In the meantime, I can't get this profile even started, because I am bummed about my picture situation! I recently gained some weight from fertility treatments and all of my current pics are not really all that great and I am having a creative block of sorts.

If some of you wouln't mind sharing your profiles, I may find some inspiration I desperately need! TIA!!!!

  • Grab a friend as the photographer and start taking pictures of you & H doing stuff together.  Make dinner, visit a museum, doing a sport, etc.  Make a list of all of the places and things in your area you can do to take pictures.

    I am not kidding.

Our problem was we had no pics together because one of us was always taking the picture...so we made some.

Go to Sears and get a portrait done so you have a formal picture....that does not cost too much.

You can view profiles online...google it.  This gave me inspiration for ours and I struggle with ours too.  You do want it to be a great reflection on you...don't slap it together...take your time.  It will be well worth it.

  • I'm in agreement with the previous poster. You don't need professional pictures, a couple are good but the rest really shouldn't be so professional and staged.

Make a list of parks in the area, museums or places that you would normally go together - even if it is to the movie theater! If it is something you love to do together then get a picture doing it. Candid pictures are the best and it allows the birth parents to get to really see YOU.

So get your friend(s) and start to clicking! ;-) With christmas next week it is another great opportunity to get some family-oriented pictures. If you go to church there is another opportunity. Just make sure that 1) all pictures don't look the same - same setting, same clothing, etc and 2) that they don't look staged.

    Have fun!

  • You may also want to check craigs list and see if any new photographers are offering free photos to build their portfolios.  Or shoot even take an ad out saying that you are looking for free photos to be taken for an adoption portfolio and will give them all rights to help them build theirs.  :)  Good luck!
  • Ladies,

Thank you all for such awesome ideas! I am going to check out Sears for a few studio type shots...and I really liked the Craig's List idea too! We did find some inspiration on line as well. Thanks again!!!!

  • We have links to a bunch of the profiles we've created on our site.  You can maybe get some good ideas from some of them.

Good luck to you; it'll turn out great, I'm sure of it:)

  • We are still working on our actual profile packet, but I have a web site you are welcome to check out:

    growuploved.com

You should also check out Parent Profiles; I believe the URL is parentprofiles.com It's an online place for parents to put their own profiles, so you can just browse them and see what people have put together.

Also, on my blog, (link in my sig), I have a post on professional profile companies. You can link to them and see what they normally do. I got TONS of ideas doing this because they normally post samples on their web site, so you can check them out and look at layout, content, and pictures.

When we were building our pictures for the profile, I put the camera in my vehicle (which is what we normally drove places) and always kept it handy. Then, any time we got an opprotunity to take pictures, I snapped away...supper club, dinner, date night...everything.

    Hope this helps!
