My SO and I are having some serious issues.... like I'm getting ready to pack up and call it quits issues. He tells me yesterday that he is willing to go get help (blows my mind, he's not that kind of guy). So today I reach out to the community counselling place. It's Canada so it's funded under our health care. They get back to me and tell me they don't do couples therapy but can see us both separately to work on relationship issues.
How does that even make sense?! We can both be seen, at different times and probably by the same person, but never together because they are not "funded" for that. I appreciate our health care system, I really do... but this is the stupidest shit I've ever heard. How is this saving money? You're going to pay one therapist to work for twice as long for the same fucking issue? So incredibly frustrating.
Re: Ooooh Canada
Do either of you have private insurance or an Employee Assistance Program?

I just find it silly that they deal with relationship issues on an individual basis yet not couples.
I work in health care and there are many things that don't make sense to me. Like why the province pays for taxi's for people 3 times a day to go get methadone which they also pay for.
I used to work for a mental health drop in Centre. I had to leave because I was literally getting paid to sit in a house by myself because no one ever came. Such a waste of money. I don't think I will ever understand how things are prioritized.
Just needed a little vent. It's hard to watch your family break apart and have zero help available when you reach out for it.
