Sudden decrease in supply?

I've been ebf for the last 2 weeks.  When my milk first came in, I was always super full.  When LO was 5 days old, I started pumping, which helped with the over supply.  I've been pumping after every other feeding since then.  Friday and Saturday I was busy, and wasn't able to pump as much.  I pumped last night, and only got half an ounce.  I pumped after her feeding this morning, and off of both boobs, didnt even get enough to cover the bottom of the bottle.  I havent felt full since Friday.  I know that I havent had as much water in the last 2 days as I'd been drinking, which I know can sometimes mess with supply.  Could the fact that I didnt pump much Friday and Saturday already make my supply decrease so much?  And how do I get it back up?  Anyone have issues with a sudden decrease?

  • Ditto Sol. I'm finding that to get 2.5 oz while pumping I sometimes have to switch back and forth twice, but LO isn't complaining when he nurses, and will usually take both sides in a session.

  • the only reason I bring up pumping is because before, I was getting 2-3 oz each time. I'm gonna keep nursing and pumping, and hope everything goes back to normal soon.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. Feeling full isn't a sign of making milk, I'm finally done feeling engorged and full at almost 4 weeks and i still have enough milk ( and forceful letdown) to choke the poor kid, even though I feel empty. And as always, pumping isn't a good sign of milk production :)

yeah, just keep feeding and then pumping. it could be anything - maybe LO is just eating more (growth spurt).

  • Maybe your little one is becoming a more efficient eater and sucking it all out of you, when I started breastfeeding I pumped so much out of me but needed to supplement it to my little guy but as he gets better I barely get anything now after a feeding and I don't need to supplement anything
