Any Plus Size Girls Out There?

I am a FTM and weigh about 190... I was wondering if there are any STM or TTM out there that have been plus size through a pregnancy before. When did you start showing? I'm worried that since I already carry weight in my tummy I won't get the cute bump that skinny girls get? Any previous pictures would be awesome! Thanks

Re: Any Plus Size Girls Out There?

  • I'm bigger than you, I carried my son all in my tummy, I was probably 22+ weeks before I was obviously pregnant to strangers. I only gained 6lbs total though and that was all in the last two weeks once I started to swell. I dot have any pictures handy, I didn't take weekly ones.

  • I was overweight with DS and even more so this go around. I don't remember when I started showing, but it was awhile unfortunately. I just looked majorly fat since I have that "spare tire" around my lower abdomen.

  • I am about the same weight as you. With DS I began showing around 22 weeks. I looked fine pregnant with a nice bump.

  • It all depends.  I'm short and I weighed about 170 starting out with my son.  I had HG though and I actually lost weight for a while.  I would say I was obviously pregnant to other people around 18 weeks.

I was bigger than you with my last one, I would say about month 5 or 6, it will really show. Here I am at 6 month, I am a momma of three so I showed before. Also, buy a belly band or full panel maternity pants it helps round the belly more and makes you feel better - or at least it did me. I only ended up gaining 1 lb with my daughter (my last pregnancy)
  • Thanks for the advice ladies! This makes me feel better!

  • I was wondering about that myself.. I'm only 5' 3 and weight 190 and have that spare tire.. I hope I get a cute belly and the belly band is a great Idea!
  • I'm a big girl, and I have a lot of that centered in my belly. In fact I could easily pull off being 6 months preggo right now in the right clothing, but last time I was pregnant I started showing obviously around 14 weeks. I was having twins though.

  • Same boat here5 ft 2 and with first i was 190.i gained 22 lbsand lost about 8 or so.starting this pregnancy out at about 15 lbs.heavier glad im not alone.
  • I've been a size 14 or thereabouts since before I had my son, and I didn't look really definitely pregnant until about five months.  It was amazing to realize how short the window of time when you look like pregnant women on TV.

Also, if you have a definite not-baby tummy, you'll still most likely get a bump but it might have some softness to it.
  • I too am a plus size gal. I am a size 16 now (I was a 24 at my heaviest) and have maintained this size for close to 4 years. I am terrified to see where I end up in this pregnancy as I seem to have no hunger control at the moment.

I am 5'8 and pretty proportionate. I dont carry my weight in one particular area. I just hope it will be an obvious baby bump. I think all women look forward to that day just a little :)

  • I'm only 5'2" and I was 205 before I got pregnant, and I know I will have gestational diabetes, so I've already started eating as if I had diabetes now.  I've lost 5 pounds this week, but I'm sure that's because I'm been drinking my water like I should.  I've been hoping that I would get the bump a little earlier too!!  I commented to my sister the other day "awe, I can't take all those precious pregnancy photos I see on Pinterest bc I'm a big girl!!!!" and we laughed.

My sis was around 230 when she got pregnant with her third.  She ate like a diabetic (gestational diabetes) and she lost 60 pounds as of her 2 weeks post delivery check up.  And that was after she had a beautiful healthy little boy at 8lbs 3oz, 3 days late.

  • I'm 5'10", I started out last pregnancy at 224 and I could see a bump at 16 weeks, but it wasn't obvious to others that I was pregnant until closer to 24.  This time I'm starting out at 185, so I'm not sure how things will look at what time, but I'm excited to find out!

  • Plus momma here too. 5'6 and about 198. I recently lost 30lbs, so I am still trying to eat healthy and within 1400-1500 cals per day
  • With DS, I wore a size 22 and I never really looked like I was pregnant.  I had only one cute old man comment with a "You look magnificent" after checking out my bump.  DH says it is because no one wanted to offend me, but I swear I didn't look *that* pregnant ever.

I tend to carry my weight in my breasts and gut and have a long torso (proportionally, its small but relative to other people it is long), which means baby had a lot of room to hide and my fat did the rest of the job hiding him.

I think had I worn clothes meant for maternity instead of just my fat(ter) clothes, I'd have looked more pregnant.

Hi! I started around 190 with my first pregnancy, I'm about 5'4. I'd say I was obviously showing around 20 weeks as well. I definitely looked pregnant and not just fat. By the end I had a cute perfectly round bump. I gained 40 pounds - 25 of it very quickly in the first trimester and the rest was just one or two pounds a month. I lost 30 pounds of that in about 10 days after giving birth. Of course, my son was almost 9 pounds so that took care of a 1/4 of the "weight".

I'm starting out this time about 20 pounds heavier (i'm not sure exactly how much. i'm scared to get on the scale). I gained it all back plus some so quickly as soon as I stopped breastfeeding and had trouble getting out of the "I'm pregnant/breastfeeding I can't diet!" mindset, and then we decided to try for another one, so I figured, what was the point of losing weight if I'm just going to get KU and fat again? Healthy outlook, right?

I'm hoping not to gain too much this pregnancy, but so far I'm so hungry all the time. I am determined to lose the baby weight after this one though.

all of this. I had an obvious baby bump around month 4 despite being 180+ before getting pregnant.
  • Girrrrrl... These pictures are from the end of my last pregnancy. I clocked in at 212 pounds at my last doctors visit. This go round I'm starting out at 190. Everyone is different. I know I won't be upset if I don't get THAT big of a belly again!

  • Can't really help because, although I'm plus sized, I carried two last time and really started showing around 15-16 weeks. But I'm super glad you posted this because I also wasn't sure what to expect and our pregnancy reveal hinges on me being able to pass as not pregnant til 16 weeks.

  • I'm a FTM and I'm a size 14, (5'7" & 190 lbs). I carry most of my weight in my legs and butt, so I'm really hoping I have a belly that looks pregnant, not just chubby!
  • At least we have each other with this one! I'm a size 20 and about 5'8 and I'm hoping I don't just look fat :-/ I'll definitely be shopping for flattering pregnancy clothes to enhance the bump for when the time comes :)
  • I'm 5'7" and a size 20. My heavyest was 384 and a tight 28. I've lost 140+ lbs. I am really worried about putting weight on, I worked so hard to get it off.
  • I'm 5'6" and wear between a 14 and 16. Anyone find plus size maternity cloths that don't look like moo moos

  • I had super luck last time finding excellent maternity work shirts at Savers and Goodwill.  I kept them, and am pretty sure they'll still fit.  In the maternity shirt, I looked like a cute knocked up lady with some style.  In my man-style t shirts, I looked kind of like a fat man, which is both funny in the abstract and seriously depressing when it's me in the t shirt, shaking my head at the mirror.
  • I'm a FTM, too and have had a belly since I was in high school. I've been asked on numerous occasions if I was pregnant, with one woman asking if I was sure after I said no. That being said, I don't think I'll have a problem with the whole pregnant belly thing. I mean, I've had a faux baby bump for most of my life lol (By BMI I'm considered overweight but I'm skeptical of the system that seems to consider only one body type) I will be watching what I eat though to try to maintain a healthy pregnancy.
  • Hey ladies...I did find some bigger sized maternity wear at Target but i think it only goes up to a XXL... How about bras? Any awesome maternity bras in bigger sizes that still offer support?

I had great luck with Old Navy and Target's Liz lange line!
  • I was 170 (i'm 5'4) when I got pregnant w 2yo son. Gave birth at 232! My heaviest ever!!!
I was eager for #2 so I didn't really focus on losing all the weight. I'm currently sitting at 184 at 6w3d. I hope to stay under my heaviest ever. I swear my boobs have tripled in size!!!

  • My first child I was a size 22...I actually lost 40 pounds DURING my pregnancy. I really didn't "appear" pregos until about week 36, honestly. I had to buy SMALLER clothes. I ended up at a size 14 after my daughter was born.  Of course, I have gone back up to about an 18 now, and so we will see how this pregnancy goes (I'm 5w4d).
  • Destination maternity was my absolute FAVORITE.
I started out at 209 with DS, but had terrible morning sickness. I weighed 183 when i returned from hospital. I'm 5'6" and I wore destination sizes L & XL the whole time.

As another PP said... I'm apple shaped and pretty much look prego all the time so people started asking around 12 or 15 weeks I think when it was clearly a bump.

Until I looked up these pics for you I had NO CLUE how huge I got even while losing weight.
    22 weeks & 33 weeks.

  • I'm 5'4" and my first pregnancy I started at 188lbs. I highly recommend exercising throughout your pregnancy. I didn't last time and thought I wouldn't gain much because I was already so big. Wrong! I gained 62lbs!!! I looked awful and swollen at the end of my pregnancy. I'd say I had the cute belly look around 6 months and then by the end I just looked huge!! This pregnancy I'm starting off at 194 and I hope to stay active and count calories the entire time so that I can really try to not gain much and feel better the whole 9 months
  • FTM here and I'm starting around 225. Managed to lose 30 before getting pregnant. I'm also in the worrying I will just look fat club!
  • I LOVE this thread! I'm 5'5" and size 18/20. I'm definitely taking pictures every week because I want those memories even if others can't see the bump yet!

How did you lose 40 lbs? Was it diet or were you sick? I would be like let me pop out a few more.... Lol.
  • I'm so glad everyone likes this thread! Maybe we should do a weekly check in?? It makes me feel so much better knowing im not the only one out there! This is also something i think about daily (how being plus size will affect my pregnancy) Has anyone gained weight so far? I've gained 6 lbs I pretty much let myself go the moment I found out I was pregnant. I had been dieting for years and was eager to eat whatever... Now I just feel guilty! I thought maybe I'd get morning sickness and lose weight but that hasn't happened yet! I need to get back to exercising but Im just so exhausted! How are you girls doing with weight and exercise?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I've lost 4lbs so far but I have been counting calories and walking lots. I also just started working again after baby #1. I'm not sure how many calories I should be eating but I haven't increased them at all as of now (1250-1500/day). I'm really conscious of not gaining too much but I also want my baby to be healthy. Obviously I'm eating healthy calories and am not feeling hungry at all. Anyone else counting calories?
  • I'm so glad I found this thread! I was feeling so alone! I'm a FTM, just found out I'm pregnant. I'm definitely in the heavier club, about a size 16 and about 5.7. I haven't gained any weight yet and was on a strict 1500 calorie diet before discovering I was pregnant (doing it for two months I only lost seven lbs, *sigh*). I am terrified at gaining tons of weight, so I've tried to only eat healthy things. It helps that all sweets taste like paste or chalk haha. I am still counting calories because I don't want to gain a ton of weight.

  • I'm going to check in here too. I'm 5'7 and about a size 16, a couple of years ago I got down to a size 14 almost 12, but then I met my husband and the settling into a relationship, happy eating took back over so I put all that weight back on. I was trying to start eating healthier before I found out I was pregnant but wasn't doing very good at it, and now with the ms I'm just eating what I think sounds good because so little does, and I've already put on about 6 pounds as well and I don't know if it's just bloat or there to stay. A friend of mine lost 20 pounds while pregnant and then another 30 from breast feeding after her baby was born, so I'm hoping I can follow her example, but I definitely need to start eating healther, for me and the baby.
  • I would like to add myself as well. I'm 5'3 and a size 18/20. My dr wants me to stay weight neutral but I'm scared of gaining weight & not being healthy for the baby. I'm a FTM at 38, so I'm worrying about a lot already.
