Tips for Passing One Hour Glucose Test?

Re: Tips for Passing One Hour Glucose Test?

  • wow... first time on here and am shocked at how judgmental people are about this question!

With my first pregnancy I barely failed both the 1 hr and 3 hr tests. At the end of the day after all the extra ultrasounds (which were nice) all the finger pricking (which sucked... and never got a bad reading... while eating whatever the hell I wanted)... and sitting through a talk on how to eat healthy and exercise while sitting next to a chick 4 times my size... all doctors agreed I didn't have GD, especially after my son was born full-term at 7lb 2oz and I'd only gained 25 lbs from my ideal weight.

This time around I asked my doctor what to do to make sure I don't have another mis-diagnosis of GD. She said to eat extra healthy and low-carbs the week before... it's not going to ensure you pass if you really have GD. However it could help to not get a false positive. We'll see how well it works when I take my 1 hr tomorrow morning.

I can't believe  all of your doctors told you that you didn't have it.  If you failed the test, then medically, you had it.  Also, a person's weight or fitness is not really an indicator of having GD.  I know marathon runners who have had it multiple times.  You sound kinda judgemental yourself.

  • " I am sure there are many people who had to go in for the second test merely because of some indicator or "mess up" on their first test."
-- this would be beyond her control anyway. Our advice can't prevent this if that's the case.

"Please be patient with people that are asking for help, and don't be rude."
-- I was very patient & helpful. Don't tell me what to do. I'm an adult and I can respond in any way I please on a public message board. You are not our nursemaid. Kthnxbai.

I'm shocked at how you're shocked that people are judgmental about trying to cheat a test and endanger a LO's health when you say shit like this.

Making a comment on somebody's weight is by far the lowest, most judgmental thing you could fucking say or do.

    You disgust me.

I agree that she should have been more sensitive about her wording. I disagree that this is the "lowest, most judgmental thing she could say or do." She could have commented on her race, heritage, culture, children, family, any number of other subjects that would have been lower and more judgmental. Just wanted to add in a little perspective here.

  • @MannaPants I struggled with anorexia. You may not agree and that's fine, but no thank you for your perspective. I stand by my statement.

  • I wish there was a better way to test for this condition. I'd imagine the three-hour test is pretty awful and time consuming but have to suck it up until they invent a better test. I've been through the ringer already in my pregnancy so they didn't make me do the three-hour when I failed the one-hour.

  • I took mine in the afternoon. I was told to avoid carbs that day, and before they gave me the drink, they asked if I had any.
