itchy stretch marks

After being stretchmark free all pregnancy I started getting some the past three weeks. Baby is estimated 8lbs now so I guess my skin can only take so much. I didn't expect the marks to be itchy though. Like wanting to rip off my skin itchy. If hubby even comes close I start slapping. Anyone else have this?

Re: itchy stretch marks

  • Yes! I had it at the end of my pregnancy and 4 weeks postpartum my skin is still itchy where my stretch marks are. If it really starts bothering you it's okay to use some hydrocortisone cream. Also cold compresses help too.

  • Yes yes yes. Welcome to the world of stretch marks. I would start the Palmer Coco-butter and Coco-milk treatments. They really help. I was using Vaseline Coconut Butter with Coconut oil but it isn't the same. Also taking a warm bath and putting Coconut oil on the tummy/area helps. Sorry your starting your journey but hte quicker you embrace them and get the moisturizing situation under control the better.

If they get really bad you want to watch what type of fabric your shirt/dress is made of. Some fabric trigger itchy-ness faster, leads to scratching, which leads to more itching.
Also fabrics that do not wick away the moisture while sleeping helps.
It's the little things... oh man do they hurt.

  • Baby oil. Slather up! Just make sure to wear no shirt or an old shirt because it will leave oil stains!

  • Yes! My doctor told me sometimes the stretch marks develop itchiness towards the end. He recommended the cream Sarna. It works great! And it's steroid free so he said I can use it as much as I want. He told me to keep an eye on the stretch marks though because sometimes it can develop into a skin rash. Good luck, hope the itchiness goes away quickly!
  • Very normal for stretch marks to be itchy!  I have a few, and slather this "belly butter" on them and the itch goes away immediately.  I bought it at a local store, but I'll tell you the ingredients so you can find something similar.  The main ingredients are shea butter, cocoa seed butter, grape seed oil, beeswax, corn starch, vitamin E, and rosemary leaf extract.

  • exfoliate gently with sugar scrub or wash cloth and shower gel then apply the cream or oil. Someone gave me a fancy set including a scrub, cream and oil by a company called basq and using all three has made a big difference in the itchiness for me
  • So itchy today. Sometimes no matter the cream, scrub and time you spend on them they are just going to itch. We need to create a support group. Stretch Marks United. SMU.

  • I didn't get any stretch marks until 37weeks. It felt like they popped up over night. They weren't itchy right away but now they can get pretty itchy. I keep them very well lotioned and that seems to help a ton. If you itch they will spread. :)

  • I didn't get any until I was about 36 weeks and now the whole lower half of my stomach is covered. They do get really itchy and I lather on the palmers tummy butter at least twice a day. All I can hope for at this point is that they fade afterwards.

  • Thanks so much ladies!  Yes we should definitely start that SMU club!  I will try the creams you've suggested.  It's so weird how this rash seemed to spread!
    Good luck everyone!
