how often are you bathing LO?

Up until a few weeks ago, we gave my son a bath every single night.  He had a bad rash which seemed to be agrivated by the bathing so I went to every other or skipped two days and just did a washcloth on the nights I didn't bathe him. Washcloth was to wipe his face and nose and any "spots" he had on his arms from dinner that I didn't get eariler.  It was so nice not to have to bathe him every night!  So now he's over the rash and I want to keep up the every other night or more routine.  Was just curious what everyone else does for frequency at this age, and on nights with no bath, do you just do a washcloth or what?

Thanks:)

Re: how often are you bathing LO?

  • We do every other night. On the off nights we don't do a washcloth or anything. We still brush his teeth but no other cleaning.
  • Loading the player...
  • Every other night or every 2-3. On nights without a bath, I don't wipe him down.

We CD at home and I use my own wipes/spray, so I feel like his privates get "washed" from the spray (Water with baby wash & tea tree oil). Other than that, I don't really think he needs a wipe down.

lately.. every day at least once a day unless he falls asleep while we are out and we dont want to wake him up.. but he is mostly having showers now and loves them.  We have a padded tub mat  so it's not slippy and he alternates between standing and sitting playing with toys.  He got to the stage where he didnt want to sit in the bath and showers were the perfect solution..and a lot less water all over lol.

we've never had a problem with diaper rash ever.. we use pampers ..but we dont use wipes since he was about a week old.  He gets wiped with a wash clothe and baby soap.  He has  been able to request a bath for months now and I swear he makes as much mess as possible during meals in the hopes he'll get a bath. As soon as he gets down .. all you here is bath bath bath... if he sees you taking your clothes off.. bath bath bath.. anytime you open the door to the bathroom he uses.. bath bath bath.  My kid loves water .. baths , pool, puddles..he aint fussy lol

  • We bathe C every night, it's part of her bedtime routine.  She only gets soaped up every other night, and we moisturize as needed.  If we skip a bath for whatever reason, we give a "baby wipe bath" to get any bits that really need it (her feet, good lord she's like a teenage boy with that stink!).

  • We bath our 19 month old every noght as part of his bedtime routine. I don't wash his hair every night, but I find its the only thing that eats up 45 minutes of the night, he Really loves the bath and it helps him to relax. He has my sensitive skin, and almost like an eczema, so I'm sure that come the winter months he won't get one every night, but ill cross that bridge when we come to it. DS would live in the bath tub or pool if we let him!
  • two to three times a week, and wipe down with a washcloth on off nights, especially in the summer when daycare is using sunscreen most days.

  • We do every other night or every 2-3 nights.  If she gets really messy doing something or at dinner we will give her one anyway.  She also had dry skin when she was a baby and that is how often the pedi suggested doing baths.

  • We're every 2-3 nights, depending on what's happened that day (pasta for dinner usually means bath because he gets it EVERYWHERE).  Otherwise, we'll wipe down if needed, but not always, in between.

Every other night for us. Though it depends our schedule. If we visit the animal shelter, park, swim lessons, or sandbox it's a bath no matter if she had one the night before. But if we hang close to home or not do anything too dirty we do every other night.

  • we do every night because 1. it calms her down- she runs up and down our upstairs hallway and is so amped up after DH or I chase her around that in the bath she sits and chews on her letters and just chills. and 2. we play outside everyday. she has sunscreen on and if we play outside later, sometimes lemon bug spray and I like to have all that washed off when she goes to bed
  • LO gets into the shower with me on Sat or Sunday. During the work week she gets a quick shower if she is covered in dirt.Other than that she gets a a washcloth before bed, or a shower after swimming at the gym when we go. Since they don't sweat they really don't need it more than once a week
  • DD gets a bath ever other day, unless she needs it more often (food everywhere, gross poop, sunscreen, etc). We brush her teeth twice a day.

  • I feel like a freak. We bathe her once a week. Occasionally twice but it usually ends up being once. They haven't hit puberty yet, I really don't see how they need to be bathed super often from a "stinky" standpoint. Germs I get but I am very good about wiping her down after each and every meal and after any time she is particularly messy or germy. She's turned out OK so far, haha.

  • I am going to bite my tongue on this post......I can't do it. Seriously ONCE a week? Your kid poops on themselves. How would you like to just be wiped off after a week of using the bathroom on yourself? Bring on the backlash. I'm a big girl. I can take it.

  • I would say every 3-4 days depending.  If he's sweating or gets dirty playing outside, I'll dip him in.  I only wash his hair 1 x a  week.  He has my really sensitive skin and I've found that I can only wash my hair 2x a week without issue.  I use an extra gentle soap on him too.  There are days though that he has a poop blowout or what have you and voila, he may get two baths in one day.
  • Every other night as a standard. If he is playing outside or gets really dirty during dinner we will add in an extra one that night. If we go swimming he gets a bath when we get home.

I'm backing you up on this one. Once a week? I just can't even imagine. I wash DS's hands after diaper changes, and I wash his hands and face after every snack and meal time, and I still find that every other night is the minimum of cleanliness. Come on! Babies love the bath too so let them have fun in the bath if you aren't doing it for cleanliness!!!
  • At that age, we'd average once or twice a week in a normal week, maybe 3 or 4 if there were frequent needs.  If she was playing in the dirt, with paints, or got a lot of sunscreen applied, she'd get a quick bath that night too.

  • Every night.  In the summer she gets soap every night to get the sunscreen and/or bug spray off but in the winter she'll only get soap/shampoo every other day or so.  I'll still put her in to rinse off and splash though.

We bathe my daughter every couple of days.  It is like bathing a gremlin.  She gets upset and stands up in the bathtub, and there is drama.

We use the Mustela PhysiObebe no-rinse cleansing fluid to help clean our daughter, especially after some diaper changes.

My son did not like taking baths when he was younger, but he likes taking baths a lot better now.  And he has fun.

  • Is it bad to use soap every day? I bathe my DD every night w/ soap. Her skin is not real dry. It is sensitive but to different laundry soap & things like that..

  • Yeah, every other night a wash, and every night tub time, for the most part. Maybe not a big scrub every night, but she likes tub time, and its easy and fun. An infant doesn't need it as much, but a toddler, running around and feeding himself probably does. At least a rinse.
  • We have done every night for some time now.  It is part of his bedtime routine.  He absolutely LOVES the water.  It is pretty much his most favorite thing in the world.

  • my kid would try n call CPS if we didn't give him a bath or shower AT LEAST once a day lol .. once a week would have him packing a bag and moving in with  grandma

He is 18 moths old and demands a bath after his dinner, if he sees you take clothes off, if you take his clothes off, if you open the bathroom door, if you fold towels out of the clean laundry .. pretty much anything remotely bath related and all you hear is  BAT BAT BAT and he is running to the door and pulling his shirt up and pants down lol..it's been that way since he learnt to say bath.

It doesn't matter if he just got out and dried and dressed..if you attempt to enter the bathroom he will still ask for a bath

  • We do every night, simply because it's part of her bedtime routine and so I'm sort of scared not to. I don't usually wash her hair every night, because she hates it and it's too much of a hassle. Unless your kid's skin is affected, I see no reason not to do it every night if their bedtime routine depends on it. But I also thing it's no big deal to do it every few days, or even once a week. Trust me, I know big deals, and this ain't it.

  • Bathing every night is completely unnecessary for most kids.

It's actually necessary for ours - DD's eczema flares up if she doesn't have a nightly bath - but for most kids, a couple times a week is totally fine.

  • Every other night, if he's visibly dirty then every nigh. Nights that my DS doesn't get a bath he gets wiped down with wipes. I seen on a lot of pps their LO's don't sweat but mine does? Maybe he's just different
