So as promised, here's what the book says about helping your LO through this leap (14-19 weeks).
-help them roll over and praise when they succeed.
-give lots of naked time, mat time etc.
-use colourful toys to entice your child to reach and thus roll over
-help baby in their attempts to crawl, but recognize that they will rarely succeed
-let baby explore lots of different objects especially those with small details
-provide different textures and shapes for baby
- use an activity centre
-let baby stare at themselves in a mirror
-help baby if they are having trouble grasping, reaching, holding etc.
-sit baby in your lap to give a different perspective
-let baby stare at and manipulate your hand
-Let baby watch you make a meal, clean etc.
-if your baby likes picture books let them stare at one page for as long as they want.
-peekaboo and hide and seek games
-talk to baby often, especially when they are babbling at you.
-sing songs over and over so baby can learn the pattern
-recite rhymes, read rhyming books so baby can learn the cadence
-ask baby short questions over and over (where's daddy? Want to go outside? Are you hungry?)
Best toys for this leap:
-bath toys
-activity centre
-ball with gripping notches especially with a bell or rattle inside
-plastic or inflatable rattle
-a screw top containe with rice in it
-crackly paper, chip bag
-mirror
-photographs or pics of other babies
-photos or pics of animals, people or objects he recognizes
-cd with children songs
-wheels that turn such as a toy car
Enjoy!!!
