New nap time challenge

DD learned to pull herself up last week and she is practicing every chance she gets. She is doing it at naptime too. The problem is she dosent know how to get back down. She stands and cries bloody murder. So I go in to help her, she's right back up standing as soon as I leave the room. I don't know what to do. We gave up napping twice today because of this new learned skill. How can I get her to nap without standing and crying?

Re: New nap time challenge

  • Oh I cant wait! LO pulls herself up but hasn't moved her new talent to the crib YET! This is a lot like when LO started rolling but didn't want to be on her stomach. She would just scream Until I flipped her. It took about two weeks before she was ok on her tummy. Since then we've had to deal with sitting up - she would just fall over or lay back down but it would mean an end to a nap after 40 mins. GL!

    2.  Help her lay back down exactly one time per wake-up, and after that, let her figure it out (this is what Ferber would say). She will eventually find a way to tip herself over.  She might bump her head in the process and, if she does, of course you should comfort her.  But it's highly unlikely that she will actually hurt herself.
This. We had to do this lol He like to pull up on our couch too, many falls later he stilldoing it. lol Last night he attempted a step and that went over like a lead balloon as did he LOL

  • We are going to be entering this territory very soon, and DS is already losing sleep at night trying to get himself to a sitting position from lying down. We also went through something similar as PP when the rolling thing happened. He would get on his belly, be super PO'ed about it, and I'd have to go in and flip him. Sometimes I'd do this two or three times. But as @DC2London said, we did just let him work through it. He eventually mastered rolling both ways, and now he predominantly sleeps on his belly. Milestones are so fun to see during the day. They are the devil at night!

  • Thanks for all your advice and support. Thanks DC for answering my question about how to deal with this after being sleep trained.

Today was a little better. I made DD practice pulling herself up and sitting back down all day. By the time nap time came she was so tired she didn't have the energy to pull herself up. I dont know if she will keep it up or today was just a fluke.

Now if I can somehow get her to go back to sleep after the middle of the night feeding.... She's been waking up to eat and wanting to stay up at 4am. She stays up average of 1hr to 1.5 hr. Milestones are so exhausting!
