Babies: 6 - 9 Months

10 mo not bearing weight on legs/crawling

Anyone else have a 10 mo not bearing weight on legs yet or crawling? DD rolls around a lot to get things, but no crawling and nowhere near it. Then when I try to put her on her legs she tends to buckle or will only do it sometimes. Her legs are strong I think, because she's always kicking hard. I left a message with pedi & waiting to hear back. TIA!

  • Do you have a bouncer where she can stand supported and has toys to play with? My DD loves her and she would stand all day if her balance was there.

  • My DD did not crawl until probably 14 or 15 months. She did not sit up unsupported well until probably 9 or 10 months. Walked at 20 months. However, she had low muscle tone.

Despite this, she still bore weight on her legs from 6 months or so...she just couldn't stand on her legs on her own.

Bearing down is different from standing (even with support). If your child is truly not bearing down at 10 months, I would also be concerned. If it's just that he's not pulling up or crawling, I wouldn't worry yet.

  • My son (now 32 months) didn't bear weight on his legs. He was generally delayed in gross motor skills due to mild low muscle tone. We worked with a PT from 6 months on and she got him to bear weight that first appointment. He eventually crawled a day shy of a year and walked a few days shy of 17 months. Now he runs everywhere, climbs stairs, jumps, etc...though this movements still aren't always 'solid' if that makes sense. He is very cautious about steps and different surfaces. At 10 months, I don't think the crawling is a big deal, but I would expect the bearing weight on legs. Dd has normal muscle tone and it is strikingly different from ds.

  • My DS didn't crawl until he was 1and didn't walk until 16 months. The pedi didn't seem worried and now he's a very active, athletic 5 year old. Now DD is 7.5 months and on the verge of crawling! Babies develop so differently. I wish DD would slow down honestly! ;)

  • I have a friend whose son never crawled. At 1 year, he was still just rolling all over, and went straight to walking shortly after his first birthday.
