How many weeks before baby's arrival should I wash baby's newborn clothes?

Hi ladies! I post on here often, but just to give you a reminder, I am 35w6d pregnant and I'm preparing for baby's arrival. Since I only work part-time, now's the perfect time to finish up. I've been reading up on a lot of articles that state that washing newborn clothes, or clothes baby will recently wear, is important to do before they wear them due to chemicals. I haven't washed any of the new clothes I got from my baby shower, and would like to do so. My question is how many weeks before baby's arrival (my due date) should I was the clothes? My due date is in 4 weeks. Is it too soon to wash his clothes?? I don't want to wash them, and have them sit around for a while accumulating dust.

    I have washed all clothes and they are in drawers or hanging in the closet.  Are you not putting them in drawers?  Otherwise, why would they accumulate a bunch of dust?

    Go ahead and wash the clothes then put them in a tote or the dresser. They shouldn't get dusty.

    I just washed all my newborn and 0-3 months. Once he's growing out of those ill wash the next size. I'm due 10/9.

    @CherryHolly, I am putting them in the closet on a hanger. I also have a dresser, so I guess I could put them in there for now.

    Washed mine last night. Not due til Oct 17 and DS was 6 days late, but all these early babies are freaking me out!

    I washed all of mine this past weekend and hung them up in the closet or folded them in the drawer...but I know I'm on the early side of getting it done (I'm 33 weeks).   I was getting anxiety from everything just being piled up in the our office, and couldnt wait any longer.   

    Plus, its getting harder for me to bend down to get things in and out of the washer and dryer...

    I need to wash all the clothes. I've been busy with washing the new cloth diapers. My shower is the 28th so I may wait and just wash everything then.

    I have them in a basket in the eventual nursery. When I'm in the hospital I'll have DH run a load of laundry so they're fresh. Maybe I'll even do them during early labor.

    I washed all receiving blankets, onesies, socks, hats and some 0-3 month stuff this past weekend. I did not wash any newborn stuff simply because my Dr. doesn't think LO will wear them because of size. And I haven't washed all the 0-3 simply because if he doesn't wear it, I'm taking it back.

    I washed ALL of her clothes weeks ago... it's never too early. It takes quite a bit of time to fold and organize everything so i'd say there's no time like the present. It would really suck to get into labor early and not have everything washed and organized.

    Thanks ladies for your input! I am currently washing them! I'm only washing what he will wear. When he gets bigger, I will begin washing other clothes.

    Whenever you want.  I did the majority of LO's laundry already, just have some bedding left to wash.

    This!!! I might wash one newborn outfit just in case! They grow so fast and I'd rather exchange clothes for a bigger size than never be able to use them.

    My sprinkle is this weekend so after that I plan to go through what I already bought and all the gifts and then do the washing shortly thereafter. I'm not having my c/s till OCt 22 so I have some time, but the more I can do now, the better.

    I am washing things as we speak. Working on towels, burp clothes, and blankets right now and will be moving on to clothes next. I think it just depends on when works for you and when you want to have it done.

    Our dresser was just delivered 10 minutes ago, so I'm washing 0-3 clothes right now to get the plastic smell out from the storage tub. I was just waiting for the dresser so I had somewhere to put all of these clean clothes

    If our baby can't handle a little dust (or cat hair) on her clothes, we are all in for a world of trouble.

    I wasn't planning on doing it yet (34+5 today), but was put on bedrest yesterday and who knows how long baby stays in now...so frantically washed bedding, towels, newborn, 0-3 & 3mo clothes yesterday.  Put them away in drawers today.  I left everything past 3mo hanging in the closet unwashed.
