I was 15 an a sophomore in high school. I remember getting ready for school and the second plane had just hit. I was sad and scared that it would happen somewhere close to us.
I was also in elementary school, all I remember was that I was in school when it happened. And my mom had to later explain to me what had happened. Seeing the footage on the news this morning has me in tears!
The evil in our world is so terrible. My prayers go out to all the families effected by this tragedy.
I was in high school, I remember the teacher telling us that two planes crashed at the world trade center and I thought they meant that the planes collided into each other. It wasn't until we turned on the TV that I realized what really happened. I also remember having no idea what Osama Bin Laden was... I thought it was a place the first time I heard the name. We watched TV in every classroom I went to at school that day. Living in Pennsylvania as a kid, we were in the middle of the three locations, and we were all sent home from school around noon.
I'm in NYC so it hits close to home. I'm lucky that my family was safe that day.
I was in college at the time, and I decided to sleep in and cut out that day. DH (bf at that time) called me to turn on the tv. I thought he wanted me to turn it on to watch him because he was supposed to be in a segment with Emeril Legassi that day. I turned on the tv and saw the first tower was hit. I was in shock! SIL at that time was on her roof and she could see the smoke from her house.
My father was stuck on the train for hours. He went in in the morning, and I didn't see him until 4pm. He walked at least 5 miles home when they finally let people off the train. He was so tired and dehydrated. Cell and phone towers were all down so it was so hard to get in touch with everybody.
I worked on broadway at that time as well with a clear view of the towers. My coworkers who were at work saw everything unfold and had a clear view of the towers being hit.
I was also really young. I think I was only in fourth grade. I vaguely remember them talking about it in school, but I definitely remember watching it later at home (recaps) and asking my mom if it was real. I don't know that I ever really grasped the gravity of what happened. I was young enough that it was kind of just a story to me.
I had woken up at 7 to call out if work and couldn't go back to sleep so I turned in the Today Show. I remember watching it happen and being in shock. I called my mom to tell her and as I was talking to her the second plane hit and I knew then something terrible was happening. My SO was in the army at the time and got deployed for homeland security shortly after for almost a year. It was so shocking and devastating and the one event I will always remember what I was doing and how It made me feel.
I was a sophomore in college in upstate NY. I'm from long island so it was very close to home. My brother is in the FDNY and his firehouse was in lower manhattan...thankfully that day he had off. My other brother was in the NYPD at the time and was working at one police plaza which is also in lower manhattan and he was fine. I'll never forget not being able to call home and freaking out because I had no idea if my brother or other family members were safe. I'm so proud to be an American but even more a New Yorker!
7th grade world studies with miss bray, walked into her class and saw the plane hit the second tower on the tv. I thought it was another crazy movie since she was always having us watch movies in place of her teaching. It took several minutes to realize it was actually happening then we all just sat in silence for the duration of class then were sent home from school.

I was a senior in college and was told about the north tower being hit by a friend of mine as we passed in the hallway. It was just unfathomable. I am from a town just outside of New York City, and there was a big hill on our high school campus on top of which you were able to see the smoke from the WTC. It was easily the most erie and surreal thing I have ever seen. There were two families from my school who lost their fathers in the towers. I was really lucky that no one knew personally was lost.
