I know I'm a crazy FTM...

I know this sounds silly and ridiculous but.....
The last two times we saw the baby on US it wasn't moving around much. He/she has a fantastic heartbeat which we both saw and heard and the growth is right on target but I'm still so paranoid. This am I asked the doctor how come there wasn't much "flip flopping" around on the screen and he said "it's probably sleeping". At our NT scan there was some waving and movement and then baby "was napping". I know I'm a nut but could def use some reassurance. I know that if there were any sort of problem the doc would let me know but as a FTM I guess worrying comes with the territory!

Re: I know I'm a crazy FTM...

  • I rarely saw DD moving around on ultrasounds during my pregnancy with her.  She was always very calm, and apparently she slept a lot.  (This is especially ironic, since now she never sleeps!)  During my NT scan this time around, LO wasn't moving either, and the doctor had to jab my stomach a few times to get her to move the slightest bit so he could get the measurements he needed.  It's completely normal, so don't worry!  Have your US always been at the same time?  It might also be that your LO has already developed a schedule (like sleeping in the AM).

  • I wouldn't worry.  It probably moves around more at night.  The movements of you walking around and doing your daily routine probably lull it to sleep.  You will be able to feel it more later in the pregnancy when the baby is always awake at night when you want to sleep.

At my last ultrasound the baby stretched once and then curled into a ball and went back to sleep.  They barely even got the measurements.

  • do you know how many hours a newborn sleeps? About 16 hours a day on average, Ok now think about how much time a fetus sleeps about 22hours a day... so they are awake for only moments at a time

take heart that your body and your baby "know" how to grow

  • During our NT scan the baby flipped around a couple times and then decided it was nap time, making the technician very frustrated since the baby wouldn't move to the angle she needed lol My friend said both her boys were asleep for their NT scans, so no worries! Baby might just be a sleeper!

  • Hopefully baby remains a great sleeper once he or she is here! DD moved around mostly at night, which got real annoying toward the end when my already poor sleep would be interrupted by a jab to the bladder. During the day she was not very active. I was told it was because my movement lulled her to sleep. She did follow that pattern after she was born, where if she was being moved (swing, baby wearing or rocking) she would sleep, but would be wide awake once she was still.

Soon enough you will be able to feel alot of movements and possibly hiccups to reassure you!

  • Every baby is different some are super, crazy active in the womb. My son kicked and rolled liked crazy from morning to night then all night and keep me up. I swear he never slept. My friend rarely felt movement because her little one was laid back and sleepy in there. Both were born happy and healthy. Try drinking some orange juice or having a piece of chocolate before your next ultrasound, it might give your babe a boost!
