Walgreen's Specialty/DesignRx

Hello! Question for the ladies who ordered their meds through Walgreen's Specialty w/DesignRx and/or New Life Program (and may only apply to OOP peeps, not sure?)

Our nurse faxed in our order to Walgreen's Specialty yesterday at our appt. She gave us a coupon to save $300 off follistim and told us to call New Life Program when we got home as we could save $100 off every $1,000 spent. When we got home we called the New Life Program and signed up, and the woman on the phone also told us about DesignRx as well. DesignRx was significantly cheaper than their retail prices. She said that all she needed to sign us up for DesignRx was our email, so we gave it to her. I didn't get any follow up emails or anything, so I logged in online and signed myself up.

She didn't give us a total of what our meds would be because she said it could change based on the New Life Program and DesignRx savings. She said that they send us an invoice when they deliver the medications, and they'll call before then to set up delivery.

Does that sound right to you? I have tried calling the pharmacy back today (after making sure that we're signed up for the New Life and DesignRx) but they're closed. We need to start Lupron Thursday and the lady on the phone said that they would try to deliver them by Tuesday... so maybe I'm just being a spaz.

I guess I'm worried that since the nurse faxed in the order for us before we signed up for New Life Program and DesignRx that we won't get these savings or something!

Any insight is greatly appreciate :)

Re: Walgreen's Specialty/DesignRx

  • I used Walgreen's pharmacy. Honestly, they were a huge pain in my butt! I signed up for the program you're talking about where you get $100 off for every $1000 spent. Since we were spending $3k, it was worth it. Well, when you sign up, you have to put in their specific email so they know you signed up. Well, they didn't have record of me signing up for two-ish days. It took one week to get my freaking order set straight. But, I did get my meds on time. The second time I used them for my FET, meds were way cheaper so ordering was very straight forward. They overnighted my meds and we had no issues.

I hope your ordering goes smoother than mine! Oh, and I got a bill for $300 dollars from them for the $300 they should have taken off...I was ticked. I called and left a message and never heard back from them. I wish my our office would have used another pharmacy, but oh well. Just keep calling and checking up with them. That's what I had to do. Good luck!!

  • Thanks! @beachy6 I just have this weird feeling that things seemed to go "too smoothly" with them and I find myself second guessing it. I'm going to listen to that gut feeling and keep pestering them until I feel 100% confident! We don't have a lot of time to mess around with this. Did you sign up for the DesignRx program too when you did it?

  • I use Walgreen's. They are great. I didn't have any problems and shipping is fast!

  • You're welcome! I didn't even know about that program! Wish I would have because it sounds like we would have saved more money. We did get $300 off of each vial of follistim, but I'm not really sure why. They just said we did. Weird, but it saved us $900, so whatever.

I would just keep pestering them. They do get the meds there really fast, so even if they don't send it until the night before, you'll get them. Our Lupron and delestrogen came over night and the slip said it was from Texas. It made me feel bad the poor drivers/pilots for working overnight just for us! But, I appreciated it!

  • That makes me feel better! That gives me a few solid business days to pester them before it's shot day! :)  I wouldn't have questioned the $300 off/vial either, savings are savings!

Poor Texas drivers! But dang, that's good customer service right there! Maybe I'll leave them out some cookies on my porch the night before with a note saying "thank you!" lol

    Thanks girls!

FYI even if your clinic uses a certain pharmacy, you can request that your prescriptions be sent elsewhere. My clinic likes to use Avella (there is a local avella pharmacy near my clinic), but I had them fax my med order to Alexander's Twin because they were significantly cheaper on Follistim. I didn't get a price quote from Walgreen's specialty, but I did use DesignRx discounts through Alexander's Twin.

  • @Twinkie0612 - thanks girl! I had heard I could order elsewhere but I thought it would be easier to just let the nurse take care of it for me. She did have coupons for follistim but the Design Rx prices were cheaper. But I guess I'll find out tomorrow hopefully if everything is going smoothly. Grr, I hope so.

@katekat8721 I just wanted to make sure you were aware that you have a choice. Some women don't realize this. GL! I hope everything works out for you.

  • Our doc likes Walgreen and we're ok with that.  Walgreen took care of signing us up for all the programs...I just had to give them my email address.the first two rounds Walgreen was super fast, but we switched to lupron flare protocol and it seemed to put the brakes on the whole order.  Took them 5 days to process it.
But, they seem to be cheapest on the follistim.  We are 100% POP.

  • Thank you all! I was able to place the order today. I called and bugged them all a million times but oh well, we ended up getting the Design Rx/New Life prices + our coupon so it saved us a bunch of money. Yay! Meds come Wednesday, that's when it'll all start feeling sooo real!
