What are some of your kids' favorite packed lunches? This is the fourth year that I've had to pack for DS1 (allergies) and I'm trying to get some new ideas in the rotation. He has food allergies but we can find substitutes for most things.
DD has taken Nutella sandwiches, bologna/cream cheese roll ups, cheese/crackers, meat/cheese sticks. Her sides-fruit, applesauce, string cheese, yogurt, carrots with ranch dressing, apple slices. I avoid sending chips or crackers but she loves fruits and veggies and usually requests something from those groups. There are days when I just send a random assortment of fruits and veggies as her main stuff. What she doesn't finish at lunch, she eats on the way home after I pick her up.
SD likes to take soup or other leftovers that can be kept warm. DS1 likes sandwiches with any kind of sliced meat, cheese, lettuce, cucumber and mustard. Sometimes I send pitas or wraps, or crackers, meat and cheese so they can make their own lunchables. They always have at least one fruit or veggie, a yogurt or applesauce, and I mix it up for their third snack - crackers, trail mix, cheese cubes, extra fruit or veggies, a granola/nitro grain bar, and the occasional treat, like jello or a few cookies.
This is our first year sending lunch. I plan to do sandwiches with a fruit or veggie on the side. That's generally what they have at home for lunch, so we're sticking with that. Some days it will just be cheese, other days ham, ham and cheese, turkey and swiss.
My older daughter's school allows peanut butter but she doesn't like it, my younger one only eats pb&j for lunch but her school doesn't allow peanuts so we're figuring it out (school starts Monday). We bought sunbutter but she refuses to try it and see if she likes it.
Snack in the classroom will be a fruit and veggie. For classroom snacks they aren't allowed nuts, peanuts or dairy. And then there's a list of "acceptable" snacks, all of which are brand specific and expensive, so I'll just send a fruit or veggie to avoid an issue.
Hummus w pita, black beans/refried beans w sour cream, cut up fruit, popcorn, sliced cheese, sliced tomatoes, muffins, hard boiled eggs, leftovers if it's not too messy.
DS has only been in kindy for a week. I've packed a different version of a PB sandwich every day because that's what he likes. For sides, I've sent cut up veggies (mixed peppers, broccoli, carrots w/ ranch), fruit or fruit kabobs, muffins, and crackers. I'm going to try to send pasta next week and see if he'll eat it. He also likes croissants, so I might do that one day instead of a sandwich.
We do a lot of quesadillas, meat and cheese wraps, cold pasta, sunbutter sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, edamame and couscous with sides of veggies. Sometimes I send guacamole or hummus to have with her veggies. DD also loves the mini pitas from Trader Joes so sometimes I'll put those in with her lunch or use them to make her sandwich.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!
DS prefer things in his thermos that are kept warm. I have sent pasta with marinera, Mac n cheese, mini pizzas on English muffins, leftovers(he likes chicken or pork chops), meatballs with marinera. Then I send crackers or goldfish, fruit or veggies, applesauce or yogurt. He gets a sandwich sometimes but doesn't like them as well.
DD prefers a sandwich. She like pb&j or PB and honey, or cheese. I have done a quesadilla for her also. Then she gets some combination of a fruit or veggie, yogurt, cheese stick, crackers or goldfish.
