I meant to post this here but I did on BOTB oops
I was lurking on a few other boards on the bump, specifically 3rd trimester and natural birth..... And I started thinking
When/if i get my BFP and get to the labor part who will I want in the room with me?
I think I would welcome my sister, mom, MIL maybe a close friend (she's a nurse) but when I'm in active labor I only want SO and midwife in the room. I might change my mind but as of now that's what I would like, we made the baby we get to be there when baby arrives. Also wanting to go w a natural birth no meds (if me and baby are healthy of course)
Have you ladies thought about this, who would u want to be in the room?

Re: Who will you prefer?
I'm in the same boat, she will respect my decision but I know she would like to be there
Yeah I do worry about SO flipping out a bit! It would be our first so new experience for everyone
Oh wow, did she ask around to see who could do it, or asked you personally?
It's nice that you are a nurse, but also agree it would be nice to have a nurse friend there too, specially if you want a certain birth they can be there to voice your plan and keep u up to date in what's going on
My twin will definitely be within shouting distance. I couldn't imagine it otherwise.
Savannah Mommy and Daddy can't wait to meet you.
Pipsqueak born 6/9/14
I went in on a Friday night to be induced and the following day my parents, brother, and my sister with my 3 nephews came by the hospital. It was shortly after I had gotten my epidural, so I was pain-free and feeling great. They didn't stay in my room the whole time, but would pop in here and there, or my brother and sister would come in and keep me company while DH ran down to grab a bite to eat. We were all under the impression that I wouldn't start pushing until late that evening, but when the doctor checked me again, I had progressed really quickly. I pushed and my son was born in 30 minutes (DH was the only one in the room and it was planned that way).
The funny thing was, after they were done stitching me up and everything, we were spending time as a family of 3 and the nurse popped in asking if it was okay for my mom to come in. I thought they knew my son was born, but apparently not because when she walked in, she first looked at me and asked how I was feeling and what did the doctor say about pushing. I started laughing and pointed over to DH who was holding our son and her jaw dropped and she said, "He's born?!?" Then the fam came in to take a peek at him and left after about 10 minutes. They came back to visit for a bit the next day, but my in-laws had come into town as well. THEY were annoying. My FIL just about busted in the door right when I was trying to get my shirt back on from nursing!
TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11
TTC #2 off and on since 7/12
DH is in the Air Force and we are stationed 3000 miles away from our families so it was just he and I the whole time when I was in labor with DS. While I wish my mom had been able to be there it was really special that it was just the two of us and he was so supportive and amazing I didn't feel like I was missing out not having my mom there.

I didn't think you could have more than one person, though?
My SIL had her mom, dad, sister, MIL and DH in the room! They're Italian and very close family I guess lol to each their own

Ha. We are Italian and trust me, my family is as up each other's asses as you can get... but there is no way my dad is coming in that room!
I might consider my mom, but mostly because she is a nurse and great in any medical situation. If anything even looked like it was going wrong, she'd be all over it.
I guess my family is so close, I think that's part of the reason I'd want it to be me and DH. They're always involved and it won't be any easier when the kid is here... ws might as well have one moment alone!
