Possible flame worthy Q about daycare

Re: Possible flame worthy Q about daycare

  • Are you sure this isn't a manifestation of your anxiety about going back to work after being home for so long?

I work at a predominately Hispanic school and my son is now in the pre-K room (my husband is Mexican but doesn't speak much Spanish). Most of the parents and children are from Mexico and although there is great reverence to their culture (parades and such), we start every morning pledging to the American flag, and thanking God (it's a Catholic school) for the opportunity to live in this great country.

As far as the language, I--as an English speaking African American--was hired for first grade for a reason. They needed someone to TEACH in ENGLISH. We use Spanish to communicate with parents and if needed for commands to Spanish speaking children like "formate" (line up) or "vete tu mochilla" (go get your backpack), but we TEACH and LEARN in ENGLISH.

Find out if the daycare has the same philosophy. You can't find out anything from assuming and the kids can't help where they're from.

  • Wow just wow. Appparently cultural diversity and learning a different language is a horrible fate for your kid. I am trying my hardest not to be mean but this is one of the most horrible posts I've read in a while. Apparently other races are not to be considered to be a child's provider just because they are different race and are speaking a different language. And that's Without even talking / meeting such provider. I can't even fathom how a race can be consideration...
  • as long as your child is cared for appropriately and the center hasn't received any alarming citations from the state visits...not sure it matters...we live in a multicultural world

  • In today's world, learning Spanish would be a benefit.

I only care if they are loving good people. If you are that biased hire a Czech nanny from abroad.

That's your ONLY prerequisite?!? Really? I know some good loving people, who have made some really poor decisions, that I would NEVER let watch my child.

And for what it's worth, I'm not Czech. I was explaining my neighborhood, but you may have understood that if you actually read my entire post.

What the hell are you getting so defensive about?! Really?

    It's standard bump.

Say something stupid and shitty, get called on it, get defensive.

I wasn't being defensive. Somebody took a portion of my post and twisted it. I simply said I am not Czech, so they're retort was simply irrelevant.

Anyways, I found a daycare. It's not the daycare I had posted about. She will be in daycare right across the road from where my husband works. It's a very nice center.
