March 2014 Moms

Who else is a Christian mommy-to-be?

I know talking about religion is taboo.. but, this is a simple question and not looking for any debates/arguments as to what everyone believes. I am just wondering, who else on here is a Christian? If you feel like sharing.. what is your religion?

My DH and I are Independent Fundamental Baptist..it would be really awesome to find another IFB on this board :)

  • I was raised in both Catholic and Evangelical Christian churches. I went to Bible college (alongside a liberal arts college) and studied Greek and Hebrew hermeneutics. I transitioned from a believer to an agnostic to an atheist about 7 years ago. Not sharing because I want to fight/debate with anyone - just sharing a different path. I absolutely respect everyone's right to believe what they want.

  • I'm Catholic. DH is an atheist.
  • I was raised Christian and lapsed some through college and beyond, but we've recently started attending church again (Lutheran). I'm happy to be back and I find our new church so much more inspiring, challenging, and insightful than the one I used to attend.

  • I am Christian in the sense that I believe in God, Jesus and his message, and heaven and hell. My family is Catholic, though my parents stopped going to church as teens and didn't have me or my siblings baptized. DH's family is Catholic, but he stopped attending church after he was confirmed.

We're going to baptize this LO and figure out where to go from there, because it's something DH feels strongly about and I am ambivalent. I'm not sure either of us is down with the regular church attendance that putting a kid through 1st communion/confirmation would require.

I've always been a little conflicted because I know there are Christian denominations (or non-denominations?) that probably mesh well better with my personal beliefs, but I feel that Catholicism is part of my heritage (coming from an Irish family from Boston) and I don't know if I'm comfortable turning my back on it.

Probably a little more info than y'all needed ;)

  • Southern Baptist. My dad served 21 years in the Air Force, then started seminary when I was in preschool, so I was saying the Greek alphabet by the time I was 5. He was an associate pastor of evangelism for 23 years and just recently retired.
  • I am a southern Baptist and DH is independent Baptist.  Not really too many differences!

  • @legallyginger: I completely hear you on the family identity. My mom's family is Irish, and though my mom has a million gripes with the Church, I know she would never consider becoming Protestant because of her strong Irish identity. Ever check out Episcopalian churches? I considered looking into them. People call it "Catholic Light" -- they have the tradition of the Catholic Church but are super progressive, which is important to me. But someone I am very close with (a Catholic) urged me to stay in the Catholic Church -- saying we need people to change it from within. Not sure how much change will actually happen though, even under Pope Francis... Sorry, didn't mean to change the convo too much :)

  • DH and I are Christians!
    Non denominational
  • I was raised Penticostal/Assemblies of God. I attended an A/G bible college (for an education degree). I am glad I went as it is where I met DH, but the whole political atmosphere of the place turned me off of the denomination in general. We are currently looking for a new church and have been to a local United Methodist church that we both like but don't love. We'll keep looking because I really feel that having that community is a big deal, especially when raising a family.

Sorry for the long rant to say that, yes, I am a Christian, just undecided as to what denomination I will be attending.
  • I was raised a "high church" Lutheran and became Catholic in college.  Both DH and I are Catholic and work for Catholic institutions (me - university, him - prep school)

My BA is in Theology, I have an MSEd in Mental Health from a Jesuit university and am working on my MA in Religion at same university with plans to progress to doctoral work in Systematic or Pastoral Theology somewhere.

I would consider myself liturgically very traditional (prefer Latin mass w/schola), but theologically on the moderate to progressive side.

We are raising our children Catholic and will be sending them to Catholic schools.

  • I am catholic. Just got done with mass tonight.. I always love how going makes me feel. It feels like home! My great uncle is a priest and my great aunt was a nun. My grandpa always told me I would be a nun... Guess that's not happening! ;) There were other plans in store for me!
  • My husband and I are Christian. We attend a non-denominational church where my Dad is one of the pastors.
  • My DH and I are Presbyterian (PCA) a Reformed Congregation. Our LO will be Baptized and Catechized in the PCA.
We were raised in southern baptist churches until we were enlightened to Reformed Theology!
  • Christian.  Jesus died for my sins, and I live for Him.  He is my saviour and He chose me (HUMBLING!).

We attend a Baptist church, but we don't really like to categorize.  Come one come all, whatever.  If you love Jesus and accept Him as your saviour, that's good enough! :)

  • Husband and I are both Christians and attend church regularly. We both went to private Christian schools from prek-HS and so will our children.

  • I believe god, his son Jesus who came as a human to die for my sins and was redirected on the third day. I believe that God inspired the original text of the bible (not the necessarily the copies and translations) and that the Holy Spirit will guide and teach me the will of The Lord daily. I believe in the 3-1 trinity. Aaannnddd I believe in heaven and hell.. If that makes me a Christian than yes. However 90% of Christians tell me I'm going to hell and I never made it into the cool kids club.
Not sure why people would say that.  Anybody in my church who heard about someone with your beliefs would assume that as long as your relationship with Jesus is right that you have been saved.  Sorry you have had bad interactions with people who have said otherwise.

  • I was raised Catholic but started attending a non denominational Christian church in college.  That was 11 years ago.  DH and I are very involved and love that our church really digs in to the tough stuff and what it truly looks like to follow Jesus.
