Hurting... So bad. ): ER?

I wrote a post a few days ago about pains I have been having in my side. Most everyone said it was my gallbladder or gallstones..
I keep getting sharp almost burning pains in my right side near my rib. A little underneath and closer to the center of my chest. At first it was only lasting 15 minutes to an hour.. Today the pain hasn't stopped! It's been constant all day and it hurts so bad..
I went to the doctor yesterday and she poked around and at time it really wasn't that bad. She scheduled an ultrasound ( for Monday) and now the pain is worse! Is this common for gallbladder issues? It's so overwhelming I can't even concentrate on other things.. I'm constantly feeling this pain!
If I go to the emergency room is there anything they could do if it was gallstones or a gallbladder attack? The doctor still doesn't have a clear answer since I haven't had an ultrasound yet... But I don't know if can wait that long! The pain only seems to get worse with time. ): of course, now it is midnight on a Friday! Anybody have any advice or gone through this before? Should I go to the emergency room or would it be a waste of time?
Hoping its nothing serious and it just passes but it doesn't seem to be doing so. I have always thought I had a high pain tolerance ( kidney stone problems for years!!!) but now I'm not so sure anymore. ):

  • I would go to the ER you can never be too safe when you've got a LO on board, and even if it turns out to not be that big of a deal atleast you'll know that your LO is safe. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Sounds like you're in severe pain. Wouldn't even question it... Go to the hospital. They will do a blood test and ultrasound..could be gallbladder, pancreas, or kidney infection. Since you're over 20 weeks along, most hospitals want you to go to labor and delivery, rather than the ER. They might re-route you there..
    Good luck!
  • Go to er- I had to for similar pain when I was not pregnant. Sounds like you are suffering, which is also not good for baby. They will at least be able to give you relief if not an answer.
  • Good luck and feel better soon!
  • Go! Just to be safe.
  • FIrst of all, YES, go to ER as you will be shipped to L&D and get a quicker response time than what you'd expect at an ER. Either way you need some peace of mind at this point,.

Also, I had gallstones that went undiagnoised for 5 years black when I was very young, from 10-15y/o.  I had intense, sharp stabbing pains but they were in my left side and radiated into my lower back. For me, it got so bad that I couldn't even walk. I also had the shits anytime I ate anything. This doesn't really sound exactly like what you're experiencing, but I'm sure it's different strokes for different folks. They ended up doing a laparoscopic surgery on me and removing the entire gallbladder. Instant relief. I

hope you've already gone to the hospital, and anxiously await your update! I hope everything is okay!!

  • Interesting you should mention this... My soon to be SIL is 32 weeks pregnant and she is having the same thing happening. They scheduled her for an ultrasound Monday as well to check her gallbladder as they believe her severe back pain and now rib pain is related to that.
  • I agree with the others that you should go to the ER. I had horrible pain with my gallbladder for year until they took it out. Either way, its best to be safe with LO along for the ride and have a doctor check you out. Thoughts and prayers that you feel better! Keep us updated.
  • If you are in excruciating pain especially in your chest area, your Dr. will tell you to go to the ER.  When I was 6 weeks pregnant I had a pressure and tightness in the middle of my chest that wouldn't go away and was making it difficult to breath normally.  After 5 hours, I called my Dr. and they told me to go to the ER immediately due to the chest pressure.  Turns out it was just an epigastric issue.  I hope it turns out to be something similar for you.
