Ectopic pregnancy

I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy this past Wednesday at 7.5 weeks, it was suspected for weeks but since I was doing ok my doctors wanted to be sure and they finally found it in my left tube, along with a complex cyst on my right ovary. I was given two shots of methotrexate on Wednesday night, the doctors gave me the impression it would take effect pretty quickly and I would have some discomfort and often times nausea. Well here we are on Sunday and all I've had are some cramps and a bit of nausea that's it. The worst part is that I still have enough hCG in my body that I'm still having pregnancy symptoms which is like a cruel joke since I know I'm loosing this baby. For anyone else who's gone through this how long did it take for you?

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

  • I have not been in your situation, but I'm currently going through a natural early m/c, so I know how much it sucks to not feel like you have control of what's happening with your body. Sending thoughts your way.

  • Thanks @sbg92207, I remember you from the July board, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope it goes quickly for you. Take care of yourself.

  • I know what you mean. I had a week and a half between when I found out that I miscarried and actually had a D&C, and having pregnancy symptoms even when I knew my baby was gone was salt the wound. Its the reason I eventually did a D&C, even though I had been hoping for a natural miscarriage. Its so hard. Morning sickness sucks, but when you know it will all be worth it, it makes it more bearable. But in situations like ours, its just devastating. I'm now 2 weeks post D&C and I finally got a negative HPT this morning. I'm praying that your body gets back to normal very soon.
  • Yeah it seriously sucks. Being miserable when you know it's all worth it is one thing but being miserable and have it just be a reminder of what your loosing is awful. I'm glad you got through and are on the other side. Good luck with your next pregnancy!

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I had an ectopic this summer but hopefully your experience will be less drawn out. Unfortunately I needed three doses of the methotrexate over a three week period. After that it took another 5 or so weeks for my HCG levels to get back in the negative range. I am so sorry that you are going through this during the holidays. It's really tough. While I was going through everything I thought that I wasn't strong enough to handle it, but I was, and you will be too. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • Thank you for the encouragement @5895wolterA. I hope this goes quick too but I have a feeling it won't, my beta's were all the way to 14000, my doc said it's going to take awhile for them to come down and she's concerned I'll need another shot friday since literally nothing has happened since my first one on wednesday.
