First Post - Symptom Relief!

Hello Ladies.  I found out last week that I am pregnant.  My husband and I have been trying, so this has been a blessing for us.  This week I turned 5 weeks and it seems like my symptoms have kicked in over night!  For the past few days, I have been feeling light cramps, nausea, light headache, loss of appetite and this morning I had my first episode of morning sickness.  I've heard they only last through the first trimester. I wanted to know what are some things that you are doing/have done to manage these symptoms?

I don't have any advice for the morning sickness just wanted to welcome you. Congratulations!

  • I also turn 5 weeks tomorrow and tomorrow will mark 2 solid weeks of symptoms for me. And unfortunately my symptoms seem to be getting progressively worse every couple of days. I'm a cancer nurse so I'm used to working with patients on their nausea. One thing that works well for me is QueaseEase - it's a small container full of essential oils that you smell as much as you need. I also bought preggy pops from Motherhood Maternity - they are a hard candy that you suck. Both of those seem to work fairly well. I still haven't thrown up yet, but my nausea is so bad that I'm barely eating or drinking anything. I'm also super fatigued, irritable, and my boobs are so sore and swollen.

The only good thing about symptoms for me is that they offer reassurance that I'm really pregnant in these early weeks while I wait to see the dr!

  • I agree.  The symptoms give some reassurance.  Since I've found out, I've only been experiencing enlarged boobs.  Up until the day before yesterday I was not feeling any other symptoms.  I had a Dr. Appt on Monday to confirm pregnancy and I go back in 3 weeks for an ultra sound.  We have not told our family and friends yet. We planned on doing so at the end of the first trimester to make sure everything is ok. So it's good to know that I have some women I vent to!!!  Has any one else been feeling any other symptoms other than nausea?
  • Also, thanks for the advice!  So far I've tried ginger ale and crackers.  The ginger ale did not work too well for me.  I also had soup today for lunch and that seemed to go down pretty good with no nausea feeling.
  • Welcome! I'll be 5 weeks on Sunday, so maybe I better be ready for m/s? LOL! I hope you feel better!

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • It's starting! I feel like it started so gradually that it is hard to pinpoint when this happened! I feel like progressively, there are more hours in the day when I feel a little off. Today, I even took myself out to a nice restaurant for lunch since the little salad joint I went to all of a sudden seemed completely unappetizing after I walked in the door! Well, almost nothing on the menu sounded good except a hamburger! And I could only eat half of that. But the ginger ale I ordered with it definitely helped wash it down, ha ha! :-)
  • So far, for me, I've had sore boobs and a tad bit of nausea but no throwing up yet. :-) Just tired all the time.
  • Last time, I did one unisom and vit b6 before bed for M/S, it worked fairly well

  • I am a shameless nap taker as far as fatigue goes. My morning sickness ramped up today so I haven't had a chance to really try anything other then putting my head between my knees and praying. Lol. I'm going to see if ginger ale and crackers helps out tomorrow.
  • Watermelon and Jolly Ranchers help when I have nausea.  I also try to make sure that my stomach is never too full or too empty.  You can take tylenol for the headache, but make sure you're staying very well hydrated (slight dehydration is the cause of a lot of my headaches) - I also have a small cup of coffee every morning.

  • Thanks again everyone!  These are all helpful.  It's just really hard for me to eat or drink anything these days.  Everything looks so un-appealing all of a sudden.  Glad to know it's not just me. I've been seeing about the vit B6 so maybe I'll give that a shot.
