U/S showed blood

When i was watching the ultrasound tech do the U/S i saw a black line outside of where the baby was. I asked her what that was and she said it is a little bit of blood. The doctor said it should be fine and the body should just soak it up itself, especially because i haven't had any spotting. I just should try to pick up my DD while sitting down instead of bending over every time. Has anyone else had this on their U/S?

Re: U/S showed blood

  • Yep, it can be common and a lot of the times unless you have an u/s you would never know it was there.

  • I was told about it 1 week after my 7 wk us, my OB is sending me for another us at 12 wks to check on it. I'm glad to hear it tends to clear up on its own, I've been wondering about it.
  • My doctor say it on my 6w,3d ultrasound. She say its normal reabsorbed by the body, but could result in some light spotting.
  • yup, it's usually called a subchorionic hematoma, or subchorionic bleed.  for most moms, it doesn't pose a problem to the baby, but depending on its size and location relative to the baby/sac/placenta, it can sometimes cause the placenta to tear away from the uterine wall, which is why women are generally considered at a slightly higher risk for issues.  you'll likely get monitored more often, and you definitely SHOULD take the doctor's advice to avoid heavy lifting!  i no longer pick up my son (he crawls into my lap and i hold him that way) since he's over 30 pounds and he's just too heavy to lift safely.
  • Believe me i will definitely listen to the doctor. I don't want it to get worse.
On a different note it was great to see the heart beating! Everything else looked fine.

  • Yes, I had a large internal bleed outside of my uterus with my last pregnancy. I have MTHFR so it may have been related to that or implantation bleeding. As PP's have said usually your body just absorbs the blood or you may spot. Don't panic though if you see blood without cramps, it's likely from the bleed.
