I have another one. I think putting bikini bathing suites on little toddler girls looks stupid. I was raised that one pieces are for girls and bikinis are for women. I am okay with a two-piece tank top swim suit for easy changes, but what the hell are those triangles covering?? They don't even stay in place!
We had this exact discussion last week I believe...maybe two weeks ago.
if you ask me...those "triangles" cover more on a small child than they do on a busty woman...just my thoughts. Even though I'm not going to put my daughter in suit like that. I'd rather see a little baby in a triangle top than a woman with double D's busting out like pillsbury dinner rolls
edited for spelling
I remember going on vacation when I was younger to a resort frequented by many European families, and the little girls all had on bikini bottoms and no top, because the mother's all sunbathed topless. I don't really have much of an opinion on this one way or another, but I remember someone said last week when we discussed it that it's easier for diaper changes.
I jump to unfair conclusions about anybody who lets their kids hang out with just a diaper on, or a shirt without pants.
What's wrong with that? My kid is clean and if it's cold I put him in the proper clothing. But he prefers to sleep in just a diaper and a shirt. He spends most of the morning in his shirt and diaper. Or if it's hot, he just wears a diaper. I see nothing wrong with this. I'm not taking him to the store like that.
For some reason, I just have this image in my head of white trashy people letting their kids spend all day in their diapers and kool-aid stains on their stomaches. I get that most people do not even almost fit into this category. I have no basis for this judgment, but I just don't like it.
Really? Kool-aid stains? It will be awhile before DD gets kool-aid (most babies and toddlers aren't chugging on sugar anyhow) and just because she runs around in a diaper doesn't make us white trash. Considering you admitted there is no basis to your judgment I'm going to go ahead and say it's a pretty pathetic attempt at a judgment and again assume you don't actually have kids yet.
Also, DD was a bundle of adorable last night running around in her hot pink cloth diaper, sun hat and my shoes...

DD has a two piece suit. the top is straight and the bottom is a skirt. I am also anti-triangle top bikinis on toddlers or even little girls. It just looks weird.
I have the feeling she is going to be built like me though and one pieces just don't fit me. I'm tall and thin and have a semi-large chest. For this pregnancy I have a cute tankini but I usually wear a two piece because it fits right.
I really don't like it when people bring their dogs (or any animals) to the grocery store. Please leave them at home...away from my clean, sanitary food.

Like inside the store? Grocery stores actually allow this?!? The only stores I've seen that welcome pets are home deopt and petco.
If it's not hot out our dog comes with us but stays in the car. She loves car rides and being around us.
Baby clothes with sayings on them like "Trouble Maker" or "Mom's Little Monster" really bother me. I get that they are just for fun and baby's can be a handful, trouble, and even tear apart a house like a monster ... but I just feel like those aren't names and attitudes I want to declare over my son. I don't want him to feel like he's a trouble to me for even a moment of his life. I know he'll see me stressed and angry but I don't want him to feel like he's a burdensome for making mistakes and learning and making messes like kids are supposed to. Of course having a baby is burdensome and you have to laugh at the terrible parts of it ... but even though I desperately need the hand me downs I won't be dressing him in anything that calls him something negative.

I also hate when people bring dogs everywhere, even though I'm a huge dog lover. Also, when people have little dogs that they carry around in a purse or carrier. It's a dog, let it walk!!

Yes, IN the store! I was at Safeway the other day and this lady was walking around carrying her dog, showing it off like it was the greatest thing ever! She even shoved it in a little girl's face. All the other shoppers seemed to like it too, even the mother of the little girl!
I am fine with them at Petco and pet stores. Or in the car. But in the grocery store was too much.

The animals you see in a grocery store are typically service animals...many of which are with veterans who have severe PTSD. At least that's how it is here.

Yeah, unless they're service dogs there is no reason for them to be in the grocery store.
DD and I met a really nice woman who had her service dog German shepherd in a Kmart type store before. The dog was working but DD was yelling "puuupppyyyy" and laughing/squealing haha The lady let the dog come over and greet her. It was such a good experience seeing a service dog go from "serving mode" to playful and fun dog. Service dogs are so well trained I have no issues with them in stores at all.
I really don't like it when people bring their dogs (or any animals) to the grocery store. Please leave them at home...away from my clean, sanitary food.
I think you're talking about pets, but I was in line behind a guy who flipped out on the cashier because someone in front of him had a service dog. and it was "filthy". I've worked with service dogs and guaranteed that guy that there was nothing worse on that dog than was on the bottom of his own shoes. It was one of the most ridiculous things I'd ever heard standing in line. And what was that poor cashier suppose to do about it either way?

Or shirts with "drama queen" or "diva"...I actually don't like writing on clothes at all but some are far worse than others.
Just to comment on the gun post ... I am curious if the statistic is higher for people killing or shooting intruders in their homes or people/kids accidentally shooting off guns (whether it hurts someone or not.)
The first man my Mom dated after my parents when I got divorced when I was 9 had a son the same age as me. He was a great friend and we all went on vacations together etc. When we were 11 he was home alone and he was checking out his Dad's gun and accidentally shot himself and died his Dad found him in the bedroom dead. Very very sad!!! Those stories really do happen to regular old people like you and me - even if you think you're being safe. I don't care if people have guns in their home I just prefer not to have one in mine.
I just know as a little girl I loved my Mommy's makeup and nail polish and shoes and even though she told me not to mess with that stuff I still did. It seems like little boys could have the same inclination concerning guns, weapons etc.

The problem is that aren't collected in a meaningful and unbiased way... which is why you will often see people on both sides of the gun debate quoting completely opposing statistics. Until there is a systematic unbiased collection of information you won't really have answers to these questions. There is an excellent article taht explains this... if i can find it I will add it.
I think it's wrong for families to keep guns in their house. And I super judge moms who carry them around in their purses. (I only realized a week ago how unpopular this opinion is...maybe because I'm Canadian?lol)
I feel it is safer for families to own a gun but in a responsible manner. Keep the gun in safe that is easily accessible only to the parents, they have safes that only unlock to a certain persons fingerprints. Let's face it, if something does happen in your home, you will just end up calling someone out with a gun to protect you, the cops. Why not stop the bad guy before they can do something to you and your family?
// end quote
I don't get this idea. I mean if you have the gun in a safe, unloaded and locked up as it should be, how the hell is it useful if you are woken up in the middle of the night to an intruder?
Ours our locked up, with loaded clips in a different location. I can access, assemble and have our hand gun loaded in about 10 seconds. Part of being a responsible gun owner is knowing how to use your gun safely and efficiently as well.
And how long would it take someone standing in your bedroom to shoot you?
Considering the access points in my house are the furthest from the bedrooms and I also have two dogs to alert me to someone being outside my home before they get in (even if some asshole decided to shoot them to shut them up), I'd say longer than the 10 seconds it takes me to have my gun ready.
ETA: And if by some stroke of luck someone got into my home and was able to get to me before I was able to get to them, then I at least want the article in the local paper to say that I died trying to defend my home than just getting caught with no way to try and defend myself.
This. Exactly. The same exact question goes to those of you that do not have a gun in the house. If you hear someone breaking in, heading towards your room, and you DON'T have a gun, what would you do? Hide? Yes, bc someone breaking into your home with the intent to hurt you isn't going to check the closets and bathtubs.
MH has a dangerous job that unfortunately can make him a target for crazy people. I would love to hear how he or I should defend myself without a gun, if one decided to break in with the intent to harm us

I don't worry about things like this that are very unlikely to happen. I have an alarm system and currently rent a townhouse in an area that is sort of iffy (up and coming) and I still don't worry about shit like this. @carisue143 pointed out what is MUCH more likely to occur is for a person to accidentally shoot themselves or a family member, or commit suicide than to shoot an intruder.
I hate the terms "stand on line" and "pregnant for (child's name)". In my world, it is "stand in line" and "pregnant with (child's name)". Jersey people, where I live, say "on lin"e for sure. Irks me!!!

Good point. I should have mentioned service animals don't bother me at all. This particular lady + dog didn't come across as the dog as a service animal, she acted like it was her baby. Cradling it and showing it off.
But your right, I could be wrong in my assumption it wasn't a service animal. So I will try not be so quick to judge next time.

Well you are really lucky to not have to worry about this! I'm not a paranoid person. Several people in my husbands profession have had this happen to them, so I choose to be prepared in case it does. Because you are lucky that you don't need to worry about something like that, doesn't mean you shouldn't judge someone who does have to.
I've seen babies on FB in just a diaper and it drives me crazy. I don't understand why 1. people feel the need to post those photos on fb and 2. why they can't just throw a onesie or a pair of pants on their child before posting photos!
I don't care if people let their kids walk around their house in just a diaper, or if they sleep in just a diaper, its posting photos, or taking their child out in public without any clothes on that drives me crazy.
MIL's step-daughter posts these types of photos of her daughter all the time (only is almost always just a diaper, not even a t-shirt.) It honestly makes it look like she cannot afford to buy her child any pants/clothes because she's never wearing any. MIL sends her clothes all the time so that maybe she'll actually put her child in them but at almost 2 years old, this kid is almost always in just a diaper.

Haha, I bow out of the gun debate. I don't see how arguments online with strangers ever change someone's mind - but this one got my pregnancy hormones raging. *took a cool shower*
I imagine my kid will be diaper only as often as he likes around the house (unless I make the call it's too cold, or we're eating dinner at the table together etc.) I grew up in a strict no nakey home and have had a lot of shame about nakedness my whole life - I remember being in 6th grade at a sleepover with my new middle school girl friends and they all changed into their PJ's and were dancing around in their "bras" and I was so uncomfortable I changed in the bathroom and sat out of the dancing... and even now I don't like to change in front of SO and usually wrap a blanket around me after sex and even make him close his eyes if we're changing positions and I don't want him to see ... LOL - it drives him nuts cause he likes me naked... so I hope to make sure my kiddo feels no shame at all about being nakey in the body God gave ya! Especially if you're really warm or doing something really messy with a kid.
I can't stand to hear little tiny kids talking about penises and vaginas. Seriously. What's next, rectum?
Not to mention 99% of the time these girls/parents are referring to other female parts in that region and not the actual vagina anyway...

Wtf? A stripper pole? Sounds like her daughter needs a hobby/activity rather than a stripper pole or adhd diagnosis.
As someone who actually has a cold with adhd, I agree people are quick to diagnose. I was amazed at all the testing and appointments we had to go through before they diagnosed her. I was actually skeptical of the whole diagnosis, but it's amazing the difference the medication has made. She used to be overly emotional, melt downs, very impulsive, and energy that was ridiculous. She's still the same personality, but her teachers report a remarkable difference in her performance and ability to sit in class without having to get up every couple minutes.
I can now take her to the grocery store without her wanting to pull everything off the shelves! Ha ha.
I've only ever seen a couple of babies in diapers in public and always with shirts...never just a diaper.
I don't like the pictures either but I just assume the kids prefer to be that way. We have enough money for clothes, and pjs but DD just prefers to sleep in a diaper and run around in one. Also, she doesn't keep bibs on so her top comes off at dinner time unless we have guests.
// end quote
ETA: And if by some stroke of luck someone got into my home and was able to get to me before I was able to get to them, then I at least want the article in the local paper to say that I died trying to defend my home than just getting caught with no way to try and defend
myself.
This.
@carisue143 pointed out what is MUCH more likely to occur is for a person to accidentally shoot themselves or a family member, or
commit suicide than to shoot an intruder.
Sorry for the long quote tree! I also meant to add that my mom is a psych nurse, and she also would never ever have a gun in her home. I understand being concerned about these things, but 99% of the time, what we fear the most will never come to pass. It's still more likely that a child or acquaintance would get accidentally shot, or someone would use your gun to commit suicide.
Stores don't actually allow it. In fact, I had worked in a store that had a sign on the door that said no pets except for seeing eye dogs. People did it anyway. I actually had to kick one woman out cause she brought in a purse dog and a German Shepard without a leash. They walked to the store from their house. WTF? In what world was this okay?
ETA: before I'm flamed, I followed protocol and asked if the German Shepard was a service dog. Her response was that he was "purebred and medaled show dog." She had to go.

Semi-related (sort of): in high school, we had a dog that would break out of the backyard, walk down to the grocery store, use the automatic door to let himself in the store, steal bread, and happily eat his stolen bread in our front lawn.
My UO is that service animals should need to wear identification as a service animal when "on duty" in public. And the identification should be regulated in some manner so people can't just go to like petco and buy a vest then take the dog everywhere.
Re: UO Thursday
Also, DD was a bundle of adorable last night running around in her hot pink cloth diaper, sun hat and my shoes...
I have the feeling she is going to be built like me though and one pieces just don't fit me. I'm tall and thin and have a semi-large chest. For this pregnancy I have a cute tankini but I usually wear a two piece because it fits right.

I am fine with them at Petco and pet stores. Or in the car. But in the grocery store was too much.

The animals you see in a grocery store are typically service animals...many of which are with veterans who have severe PTSD. At least that's how it is here.
When we were 11 he was home alone and he was checking out his Dad's gun and accidentally shot himself and died
his Dad found him in the bedroom dead.
A stripper pole?? WTF. I'm pretty sure that if her daughter has ADHD, there are other remedies than a stripping pole!!! omg, there are not words!

Jersey people, where I live, say "on lin"e for sure. Irks me!!!
But your right, I could be wrong in my assumption it wasn't a service animal. So I will try not be so quick to judge next time.

And pathetic attempt at judgment means you came up with something ridiculous just to have a judgment...it's not really anything that's actually worth judging.
