Re: UO Thursday

  • I hate seeing posts where people censor their own curse words with special characters. We are adults here. Putting an exclamation point in the place of an i does not make the word any less offensive to someone who might take offense, and I can bet we are all reading the word as it should be. I don't know about everyone else, but my mind doesn't bleep words for me just because the spelling is altered.

  • I don't like coffee or anything pumpkin flavored.  I'm guessing this won't go over well here.  :)

You hurt my heart a little here. ;) I am one of those crazy pumpkin loving people and have been since forever. There is a picture of me as a kid from every Halloween, after I starting eating solid foods, eating raw pumpkin while myself or someone else carved one. Now that sounds gross, but I love pumpkin flavored things!

I'm over the "I can't wait to have this baby so I'm not waking up a million times a night to pee and so I can sleep more comfortably without hip pain" posts. When the baby is outside you wake up constantly to feed or change them and end up staying up for an hour. I'd gladly take a 2 min pee break from sleeping to get more sleep overnight.

I couldn't disagree more. I am currently averaging about 2-3 hours a night TOTAL. I'm in pain, I have horrid heartburn, I'm up to pee 6-7 times. I slept so much better when DS was a newborn than I am right now. Sure i was only sleeping 1-2 hours at a time, but in total I was getting 5-6 a night. Way more than now. Plus, I don't even have to get out of bed to nurse.

This is me too. Though, I'm a FTM so I'm just hoping it will be somewhat better. Or even just different would be ok!

  • Who wants to play? My UO: When you get pregnant, you sign up to be that way for 40 weeks. So what's with the 37 weekers who are saying they're "full term" and trying to start labor? I know pregnancy is uncomfortable, but don't you want your baby to develop as long as possible? Obvious disclaimer: this does not apply to women who are suffering some sort of medical issues that are effecting their daily lives. Just the "I'm sick of being pregnant" folks.

I feel like I tried to say this a few weeks ago and started a huge shit storm. You explained it better than I did- thanks. The "I'm so over it" and "I'm in so much pain" is just annoying to me. We ALL are- but that's part of the gig. It's not going to get better if you have a few weeks left, and wishing you'd give birth early is just selfish. That's what happens when you house a human!

I think there is a difference between being annoyed that people are complaining (especially with regard to where they are in terms of due dates, which was the problem that people had with your post last week) versus people saying they want to deliver. I think it's perfectly reasonable for people to complain about discomfort on this board, including when they still had more than a month to go. Especially given that some people have different complications and pains than others. Like if I hadn't gotten the handicapped placard a couple of weeks ago, I'd be really pissed about having to walk several blocks after parking because I just can't f-ing do it. However, I think it's really different when people are saying they want their babies to come early. Have some patience! Some babies are ready at 37 weeks but the vast majority aren't. More cooking is USUALLY good for the baby (I realize that it is sometimes bad when you go past 41 weeks, for example.) So I'm 100% with ravenclaw on being annoyed that people just want to go into labor already. Or that they want "progress" early...not everyone has signs of "progress" before actually going into labor, so just chill out and wait for it to happen! Or if you have a medical need talk to your OB on a case-by-case basis about induction.

Baby Birthday Ticker TickerBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm tired of family calling/texting to see if "anything has changed."  I know they are excited and eager for the baby to be here, as am I, but we've already told them numerous times that if something changes we would let them know.  Calling 3 times a day isn't going to change anything.  And for the love, I don't feel the need to discuss my cervix with my entire family!
I'm glad they're excited but it's getting overwhelming and I dread answering the phone.

OMG yes! btw there is no way this is a UO. ;-) People aren't doing that with me yet but I remember them doing it when I was pregnant with DS starting around now or 38 weeks or so. It was so annoying. And I delivered a few days early! I would have been seriously pissed if people were doing it after my due date, because at that point I'd be impatient myself as well. Now people are saying, "any day now, right?" or "I bet you just want that baby to come right away!" Well, I suppose I should be ready for "any day now," but no, I don't think of it that way because I'm not due for more than 2 weeks. And NO I do not want have the baby now. I want to get some more things done first and have my baby grow more.

  • I have no desire to nest

I love you. I've done a few minor things to get ready for the baby out of obligation/need but it wasn't fun/pleasant. I feel more of a nesting instinct for my job, just trying to get a lot of things off of my plate right now. We still have a long list of things to do for the baby...except that it's not even in list format, because that would imply some form of nesting/organization.

  • My UO is that I hate breastfeeding! I am only doing it because this little guy actually latched well this time and my milk came in, unlike with DS1. It is really hard when ds1 comes up and pulls my finger to go outside and play and I have to make him wait until lo is done. This kid has been on my boobs forever and I just don't like it.
  • After all of that, I need to have my own UO. I don't know if this counts or maybe it's a confessional?

I had a really great labor with #1--fast, uncomplicated, etc. But even having gone down that path already and having had a great experience with it, I'm scared about labor. I don't know if any other BTDT moms are scared but it's how I feel now. I think I'm more nervous about it this time than last for some reason. Maybe I'm worried that I have high expectations because things went well last time and they could be so much worse this time. I'm also scared of establishing BFing, but for the opposite reason--it was so unpleasant last time! (even though we did get it and nursed for 17 mo!)

I kinda think the self censoring is cute. Sort of like saying what the eff sounds a little less harsh IRL than saying what the fuck. I'm trying to clean up my sailor mouth as I cross over into mom hood ;)

This is the sadest thing I have ever read. I love Sheldon and Amy.

Not really the sadest, but I have never heard anyone ever say they hate BBT.

I used to hate it. But, I still bought dh the first season for Christmas a few years ago. He convinced me to watch it from the beginning, so I did, and now I like it, but I still hate walowitz, and Sheldon drives me bonkers.

As much as I am looking forward to the baby getting here I so not want to deliver him on September 11th (to me it's a sad day and always will be) or 13th (I am a dorky superstitious person)

I am a FTM and not due until the 16th so I am thinking I am safe, but you never know.

The ones where the bears need to learn to wipe thier ass? I don't like those either. I also think it's weird the amount of tp commercials there are, I mean I get that there are different brands and they use marketing to compete but come on. Well all need tp, it's going to get purchased regardless of if a cartoon bear gets the "cheap" brand stuck in his fur.

  • Since we're kind of on a tv show kick, I don't like The Office or Modern Family. I would prefer Boss (Showtime w/ Kelsey Grammar) or The Newsroom any day of the week.

Me neither. My DH has done everything to prepare for this baby. My only project was her name letters and I have no desire to do that. I feel bad for not putting in as much work as I did with DD1, but this pregnancy has been a whole new ball game plus I have a toddler.

  • I think empowering women to have the birth they desire should include encouraging epidurals. A procedure that lessens the discomfort for women in childbirth? Sounds pretty darn empowering to me! I don't get why "improving birth" = "pain med free". That would be the opposite of improving birth for me! In my mind, going without pain meds is so oppositional to feminism.

I also think the "breast is best" campaign goes too far and makes women feel inferior who 1) choose not to breastfeed or 2) find breastfeeding too challenging or impossible. How about we stop pressuring women about their personal decisions? Not to mention, the so-called evidence supporting breastfeeding is blown way out of proportion by popular media. Sure, breast milk is better for baby, but not as much as we are made to think.

::puts on flame suit and waits for natural board to throw studies at me::

I agree with all most everything you said. I want pain medals (epi) and I am not ashamed by it. I figure anything that allows me to feel comfortable with my birth and does not hurt my child is good by me. I think we must part ways on breast feedings though. I think everyone should try to breastfeed because it is seriously much better than formula. I don't think that is hype. Having said that, I was formula fed and I am just fine. It is a personal decision that every mother must make. I didn't want to breastfeed when I got pregnant. I did my research and now hope and pray that I can BF. I know it is what's best for my son, but again to each their own.

My favorite saying when it comes to parenting is "You screw up your kid the way you want to and I will screw up my kid the way I want to". I think most parents have the best intentions, but every child is affected by parental decisions one way or another

We're very nerdy, it's borderline embarrassing at times, but just can't get into that show at all! I just really don't like the characters, I think it's that I feel like they are whiney when they talk or something.

I have never read/watched anything Twilight.

I don't like smores. I like each ingredient on its own, but together they disgust me.
