Sonogram tomorrow, how do I prepare?

I have my first vaginal sonogram tomorrow! Should I know anything or prepare in anyway before I go in. This is my first pregnant. I will meet with the doctor after, oh and I don't think my husband will be able to make.

Re: Sonogram tomorrow, how do I prepare?

  • Nothing really. They aren't painful, although you may spot afterwards. Hope it goes well!

  • Nothing really to prepare for. They insert the camera vaginally so if you need to be cleaned/groomed/sparkly for that then do your thang. Otherwise you'll just strip from the waist down, cover with a sheet, they'll do their thing and you'll see everything on the big screen. You can ask questions about what they're looking at/what they see. It's a little uncomfortable.

  • There's nothing to prepare for beforehand. They will make you empty your bladder just before the u/s. They'll have you undress from the waist down and place a sheet over your knees (just like a normal gyno visit), you'll prop your feet up and they'll insert the vaginal wand with some lube and begin. It's not bad at all and only sometimes a little uncomfortable, especially when they hunt for your ovaries :)

They'll likely explain what they're looking at, but some techs don't say anything. Don't fret, your doctor will go
Over everything with you after. Ask for a pic if they do not give you one. Good luck!

I really hope they do, or I might get a little grumpy ;-) , this being my first I have all kinds of thoughts and scares running through my head. I just want a healthy happy baby :-)

Did they mean you can't bring in camera's and videos?  I emailed them to ask if I should bring hubby to the first appointment in case they do a sonogram and she emailed back and said yes, bring him, they will be doing a sonogram.  Maybe you can try that?
